Sept. 7,8 P M—The prices of flour remains unchanged, and there is but little ac tivity in the market. About 2.000 barrels have been sold to-day at $5 50 for Oswego, and $5 62£ for Genesee, fVesh ground from old wheat. There is but little doing in corn, but prices re main unchanged. The sales are to the extent of ; 10,000 bushels, at prices varying, according to quality, from 64 to 72 cents per bushel, viz : mix ed. 64 a 69; flat yellow, 70 a 71. and white 71 a 72. Cotton is steady, with sales of about 2,000 bales. The figures are about 4 cent below the market be fore the steamer, and holders are steady. J. NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 4. — Cotton.~~ Arrived since the 31st ultimo 303 bides. Cleared in the same time 1126 bales—making a reduction in stock of 3921 bales, and tearing on hand, inclusive of all on shipboard not cleared on the 3d instant, a stock of 19.572 hales. In our last notice of the Cotton market, we re marked that the light supply, and the receipt of intelligence from the interior of the appearance of the real caterpillar ol* army worm, had caused holders to claim advanced rates, and we left the market in an unsettled state. Since then only a Hu ited business has been done, but holders have contended for very full rates, and have generally obtained them in the few sales that have taken place, the range for old crop Middling to Good Middling being 103 a 11£ cents per lb. Indeed lit tle or none can now be bought at these figures, and our quotations for other grades are nominal at the moment. Os new crop there hove been some further small sales, at a range of 11 a 12£ cents for Middling to Good Fair. The tola! sales of both old and new Ci*op, since the 31st ultimo, sum up only 600 bales, and we notice the particulars as follow : s —of bid crop 40 bales at 104, 29 at a 114> Os new Crop 10 bales at 11|. 8{• at at —, artd 78 at ll£ cenls per lb. The total re ceipts of new drop up to this date are 1475 bales, against 319 bales to same period last year, and 11 - 960 in 1815. ’ W ith regard to the prospects of the growing crop, we have little to add to our remarks of the Ist intant. The non arrival of any packet from 4 icksburg, Natchez, Arc., has deprived us of any further intelligence from Mississippi in regard to the caterpillars; but from some parts of this State advices have been received which still declare that they have appeared, and have commenced their ravages, while other accounts state that only the grass worm has yet been discovered. A few dftyy Must determine the Correctness of the one “«Sf the other of these statements, and farther intel ligence is looked for with great interest. We have bad showers almost daily lor a week or ten days past; and should they have extended into the int'e- Tior they must have had an unfavorable influence Dn (tic progress of t he crops, NEW ORLEANS CLASSWICATIOW. if Assimilating to that of Liverpool.) THE subscriber will continue the manufacture of GINS on his usual extensive scale; and embraces this opportunity to thunk his numerous customers for their liberal patronage heretofore.— The estimation in which bis (jins are held may be known from the fact of his having Sold more than two thousand within the last three years; probably ten to one over any other factory in the State.— This evidence of the superiority of bis Gins, is ac counted for, by his being the first to introduce the late improvements, and keeping the lead, by year ly adding new ones-. His first and second improve ments, made the quality r>f cotton perfect, though some were rather slow,*his third made them suffi ciently fast, it then only remained to make them more durable and convenient, which has been done effectually, by several new improvements the pre sent year; besides, he has the exclusive right of the State, and the privilege of other sections, to furnish Reed’s Patent vVater Boxes, which are believed to be ten times more durable than any other, by those who have made a fair trial of them, and are infalli bly secure against fire by liriction. His fine Gins, will gin Mastodon Cotton as well as any Saw Gin can. His agents will visit planters generally, and exhibit specimens of his late improvements, and point out their advantages, in time, for all to en gage. and be supplied before next ginning season, or, engagements can be made by letter, directed to him at Clinton, Jones county, Georgia. Gins, will lie delivered at the purchaser’s residence in an part of the State, except the Cherokee counties where they will he left at the Rail Hoad depot, most convenient to the purchaser.
