there were those among our factors, who, rather than submit to this decline, determined to await the result of ftdrices then daily expected from the other side; and since the arrival ol the Caledonia —whose accounts came to hand on Sunday until within a day or two, holders had evinced a more general disposition to realize, and met purchasers at a much greater sacrilice than that recorded above. On Saturday last, operations were almost entirely suspended, as the sales were confined to some ol) bales; on Monday and Tuesday, however, there was a moderate demand for the article, and during these two days the transactions run up to about 800 bales at | a |c. decline on prices paid just prior to the arrival of the steamer's advices, and on Wednesday between 4 and 590 bald* were taken on still easier conditions; but on Thursday, buyers were unable to operate on as favorable terms, in consequence of the gloomy accounts in relation to the growing crop, which reached us the preceding afternoon from the section of the Cotton region tnbutary to the Gulf markets, and the sales were confined to 280 bales. On Friday upwards o£ 800 bales were sold, on somewhat better rates than could be obtained in the forepart of the week. There has been little or no inquiry for the very common grades, and the choice classifications have also been neglected. THE subscriber will continue the manufacture of GINS on his usual extensive scale; and I embraces this opportunity to thank his numerous customers for their liberal patronage heretofore The estimation in which his Gins are held may be known-Grom fact of his having sold more than two thousand withmThe last three years; probably ten to one over any‘ather factory in the State.— This evidence of the superiority of his Gins, is ac counted for, by his being the first to introduce the late improvements, and keeping the lead, bv year ly adding new ones. Hisflrst and second improve ments, made the quality of cotton perfect, though some were rather slow,’his third made them suffi ciently fast, it then only remained to make them more durable and convenient, which has been done effectually, by several new improvements the pre sent year; besides, he has the exclusive right 01the State, and the privilege of other sections, to furnish Reed’s Patent W ater Boxes, which are believed to be ten times more durable than any other, by those who have made a fair trial of them, and are infalli bly secure against fire by firiction.
