As my object now is simply to remove the
impression you seem to entertain, that this
Company has been charging one price and pay
ing another, I trust I have succeeded.
So. Ca. 11. Hoad, Hamburg, Sept. 23, ’47.
Late from Santa Pc.
By a telegraphic despatch from Pittsburg,
dated at September 22, 2 o’clock, the Balti
more Patriot has the following intelligence: —
"NV c have late accounts in St. Louis papers,
from Santa Pe and Chihuahua —the latter to
the Ist of July.
livery thing was quiet at the last accounts,
the Mexicans adhering faithfully to the treaty
of agreement made with them.
Fourteen traders and several volunteer com
panies had left Santa Fe for Fort Leavenworth,
and others were to follow the next week.
Lieut. Love had arrived at Santa Fe, with
$300,000 in specie to pay off the army.
Death has made terrible inroads upon the
volunteers. The companies that have return
ed took out the full compliment, and now only
average forty men for each.
TheGcorgctown Advocate says —“It was ru
mored in that town on Monday evening that
the money necessary for the completion of the
Chesapeake andOhioCanal had been obtained.’ ’
The Canard steamer Britannia, 37 hours
from Boston, arrived here this morning. We
understand she will go on the Sectional Dock,
for repairs.— X. I . Jour. Com,, 22 d inst.

last year, and 1,490 the year before.
The market has been very dull during the week,
and the few sales we have to notice are at a de
cline of Ato of act. from our quotations of last
week. ’l’lie market is too unsettled to make ac
curate quotations at the present time. The sales ;
amount to 3d bales —24 at 11$ and 12 at ll£ cents, i
Rice. —The market has been very quiet during 1
the week, and prices, if anything, are a shads low- I
cr. We notice sales of 70 casks at 5c., and 4o do. !
at 4*Jc.
Rope and Bogging. —There has been an advance I
in Bagging this week. A small lot of Ken- i
tucky has been sold at and Dundee at 18 a 22. j
250 pieces Kentucky were sold at a price not i
made public. We also note coils Rope at 3 |

ment in the trade this week. We note sales of 20

for Cotton, and 75 per cask for Rice, and G£c. per
bushel for Corn. No vessels loading for other ports.
f IT VRLES I ON, Sept. 25.— Cotton. —When we
closed our inquiries on Friday last, prices on most
grades were fully |c. higher than those current 1
at the date of our previous report. The market
had been stimulated by recent unfavorable ad- j
vices from the gulf markets in relation to the grow
ing crop, and we advanced our quotations to cor
respond with the improvement that had taken place
early in the week; but it is proper here to add, that
the high pretensions of holders soon determined
purchasers to withdraw, and the market during the
last three days was very quiet, as the transactions i
did not exceed 120 bales. On Saturday last business i
was altogether suspended, as dealers were unable to
pome to terms, Sellers on the one hand were claim
ing the advance noticed above, while buyers—(we
mean the few wanting Cotton—on the other hand,
refused to operate at these rates. On Monday the
former let themselves down a little, and some 450
bales were sold on somewhat easier terms. On
Tuesday the transactions were limited to 90 bales,
at similar prices. On Wednesday we were in
formed through the Northern mail of the arrival of
of the steamer Britannia at Boston; as nothing but
this simple announcement was known, the day
passed without a single transaction, on Thursday,
however, her advices came to hand, and are,on the
whole, considered the most unfavorable that have
reached us from across the water for sometime
back, but what positive influence they may ex
ercise over our market, remains to be seen.
During the day near 450 bales tvere sold at a
bout cj. decline; and during the following day up
wards of 400 bales were disposed of at even a
greater sacrifice; but prices are very unsettled, and |
nnder existing circumstances it is impossible to j
give quotations with the least degree of accuracy;
we must therefore await a more active demand to j
give a tone to the market, and something like rog- j
ulanty to prices. There have been received of
the new crop, in addition to the 29 bales reported
in our last, 100 bales, the quality of the most of
which is represented as being very- common. The
aggregate sales since our last reach 13d8 bales, and
the receipts in the same time foot up dsd bales.—
The transactions are as follows : —2G3 bales at 10$;
i 91 at 11; 17 at Hi; 200 at !!£; 73 at 11|; 417 at
12; 83 ot I2j; and 37 bales at 12£. We have no
transactions to report in Long Cotton.
Rice. —In Rice we have nothing new to report.
The transactions of the week have been quite light.
The article has been in some request, but. pur
chasers in most instances have refused to buy,
owing to the high prices required by holders, who
are supported in their present position in conse
quence of the limited supply on the market. Ship
ments are going forward on millers’ account. It is
impossible at present to give quotations. A few
sales have been made at prices ranging from to
S'4 l ,er hundred. Received this week 9dß tierces.
C orn. — \\ e are still without any transactions of
magnitude to report, as the sales have been con
fined to small parcels within the range of our quo
tations. Received this week 1(>83 bushels per
rail road.
Sal/. —The transactions of the week have been
at prices ranging from 1.25 to 51,35 per sack.
Among the sales were 4100 sacks, received this
week, the bulk of which was sold at SUK) per sack,
j There wdre also received 1300 bushels Turks Isla;;d
which brought 20c. per bushel.
_ Bagsing. —.Small sales of Kentucky, chiefly- at
17£c. W e continue to quote and 18c, but would
remark that the latter figure is now an extreme
rale. The stock is on the increase. Neas 1300
pieces have been received since our last.
Freights. — \\ e quote as formerly to Liverpool,
Cotton, in square hags, at .Ad. A vessel has been
taken up for Havre, and a full cargo engaged at Ic.
for square bags, and lsc. for Sea Islands. There
is very little offering for Coastwise shipment, and
the rates are altogether nominal.

Flour is without change. Common Gene
sec, Oswego, See., $5,50 a 62; new $5 75 a 88.
j 300 a little extra $6; 100 Jl. Fisher “New

FLORJDA
CIITIZENS of this beautiful and healthy Ft .t !
( / allow me, a native Georgian , the pleasure to
j call your attention to on* of the greatest and nirst
1 useful Medicines ever discovered- —one of a simple
and harmless nature—one which has proved itself
j to be an infallible remedy for the FEVER AND
AGUE, effecting a certain and speedy cure. The
time mentioned is truly very short, and will be
! doubted by many, but I have certificates from the
i first Physicians and of gentlemen of the highest re
i spectability of Savannah, where I reside. It is
known by all that a poison will soon circulate
through and effect the whole human system, then
I why not a simple and one that is harmless? This
Medicine is not a Northern Humbug . but a South
ern Remedy altogether. It is made in the "ity of
Savannah —it is recommended by citizens of Sa
j vannah, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Ac.; ami
to be candid, all my Printing is executed
by Mr. E. J. Purse , of Savannah; so you will at
once see it is altogether a Southerner, and if it was
nay intention to humbug any e.immunity, I would
not choose gentlemen’s names that are wclll known
and in the same place where I reside. I submit
the testimony oi residents of this city, among
whom are the first Physicians, and I presume you
! are acquainted with many of them. The Medi
| cine offered to the world, is a safe, certain and
| speedy cure for Fever and Ague, which it will do
I in the ve/'y short space of Twelve Hows. As Fieri
j da is a newly settled country, it is liable to a great
i deal of this troublesome disease, and it will he to
i the advantage of every family to keep a supply on
| hand. Citizens of Florida; it is not my intention
to weary r your patience with a string of nonsense
| or of advertisements, for I can assure you that I am
pretty well u*ed up in this part of the work; but f
I wish you to try’ this Medicine and satisfy’ yonr
i selves, and you will for the first time believe that
I a disease could be cured in Twelve Hours, and the
i only way to prove it is to try it.
I really’ do not know why a Southern Medicine
i should not he as good as one that is manufactured
; at the North. My Medicine has effected a perfect
j cure where all others have failed. I admit there
! are many other remedies, hut not one that can be
-1 come so popular, ami so certain of curing this com
plaint, as Humphreys' Retnetly for Fever and Ague.
' Only think for a moment. Twelve Honrs to he a
i healthy man! It is strange, very’ strange, that truth
{ should need so much boasting at last; but such is
thisw’orld. I will not tax y’ou with any more ol
this, but willingly I leave ,tbe Medicine to re com
i mend Jtself to Florida. And now, to close, I pledge
( i7iV hemor the Medicine does not contain any Mercury
i or any Mineral Preparation whatever; it is a 1 cge>
• table only.
I am respectfully, yours. Set.

THE REMEDY NEEDED.
Dr. Woodruff’s Dysentery Cordial,
For Dysentery, Diarrhoea, Griping Pains and
Summer Complaint of Children.
FROM Benj. Gardner, editor of the Soutliern

Another Life saved by the Cordial, after
j Physician’s skill had failed to benefit.
Dr. Woodruff:— Dear Sir: I take great plea
sure in testifying to the efficiency of your Dysen
terey Cordial from testing its virtues in my own
family. Mrs. Gardner was last summer most vio
lently attacked with that disease, and after all emi
nent medical skill had been "baffled in its efforts to
remove the disease or afford relief, and apprehen
sions began to be felthy myself, that she would not
survive much longer, under the intense agony in
which she was laboring, 1 had recourse to your in
valuable Cordial, and before she had taken one
bottle of it, relief was obtained; and after tt king
| two, was eutirely cured. I feel sure that Isu in
