Sand's Sarsaparilla-
The esculent swallow of Java, by some unknown
process converts the ocean weeds into edible nests,
delicious to the taste, highly prized as luxuries, and
said to obtain a vast quantity of nourishment, and
to be efficacious in consumptive cases. If such
results can be produced by the instinct of birds,
what may not be expected from the investigation
and experiments of the man of science 1 Much
may yet be anticipated in the way of checking
disease, Iroru the researches of the educated
chemist; but much has already been done. The
long catalogue of cures effected through the
agency of Sands Sarsaparilla is an example in
point. Among Scrofulous patients, how many—
pronounced incurable, and certainly beyond the
reach of medical practice—have not only obtained
a respite from suffering', but permanent relief, from
this invaluable preparation.

CHARLESTON IMPORTS. OCT. 26.
Liverpool.—Ship Consbrook—ls97 casks Salt, '
to Patterson &c Stock.
CHARLESTON, 0ct,25. — Cotton.— The Upland
market yesterday was rather flat, and buyers ap
parently holding back. The sales amounted to
591 bales at prices ranging from a Bf, said to be
more favorable to buyers than on the day previous.
NE"\\ ORLEANS, Oct. 23.— Cotton. —Arrived
since the 19th inst. 13,778 bales. Cleared in the
same time 3765 bales—making an addition to stock
of 10,013 bales, and leaving on hand, inclusive of
all on ship-board not cleared on the 22d iust. a slock
of 81,138 bales.
At the date of our last report the Cotton market
was in a feeble and drooping state, the great difli
culty in efiecting exchange negotiations being an
obstacle to the operations of buyers, while continu
ed arrivals were accumulating the stock in factors’
hands. These difficulties have continued to ope
rate with increased force during the past few days,
and a further depression in prices has been the con
sequence. On Wednesday the sales barely reach
ed 800 bales, at our inside quotations of that day,
and on Thursday factors were compelled to submit ;
to a decline of an £ of a ct.. wit!) sales of 2500 bales, i
N esterday the market gave way another and
tales were effected to the extent of 5000 bales;
making a total for the past three days of 8300 bales,
and for the week of 16,600 bales, while the receipts
of the week have b*‘en 28.558 bales. It will thus
be seen that factors have been compelled to submit
to a further decline of fully a ] of a cent per lb.
since our last Wednesday’s report, and even at this
reduction there are more sellers than buyers, as
the impossibility of passing exchange to the requi
site extent, even by the most substantial houses,
particularly on Europe, necessarily limits the ope
rations of purchasers, and causes a rapid accumu
lation of stock in factor’s hands.

MACON, Oct. 26.—-Gotten.-—-The unfavorable
news by the Cambria, a brief summary of which I

ces still lower. The market was very unsettled
yesterday, with few sales. We quote to-day 7 a 7j,
No change since our last in other articles usual

Corn. —Nothing doing beyond the few sales ma
king for home consumption. We quote 30 a 35c.
Flour. — a 3 per 100 lbs.

duced, and a good article readily commands

Lard. —9 a 10c. per lb.
No change in other articles usually spoken of in
the markets.
COLUMBUS, Oct. 25.— Cotton. —Since our last
review up to Friday, the market was quite lan
guid, but on that day and Saturday, there was
much anxiety on the part of buyers to take hold,
-and prices ruled as high as B*| cents. The very
unfavorable accounts received per Cambria, has
•again placed a damper on the market; there have
been but few lots sold since the receipt of the
news. We quote from 7| to 8 cents, though some
what over the highest figure has been offered and
re)used for a small lot of choice. Stock on hand,
8201 bales.
TALL A II VSSE R.Oct. 22.— Cotton. —About 2500
bales have been received of the new crop. Prices
have ranged from 8 to 9 cents. Since the arrival of
the last steamer, the accounts of a decline in price,
and the unfavorable reports from the South, prices
here have fallen a cent and a half per pound. —

MOUNT EAGLE TRIPOLI.
A REMARKABLE mineral, pronounced by 1
geologists to be a great rarity in nature and ;
known to them by the name of Tripoli, has lately !
