LIVERPOOL, Oct. 23.—Cotton.—Report for
the week ending October 22.—Time brings no re
lief to ««r cotton market, nor to the commercial
world generally. The past week at least has not
done so. Much fluctuation has taken place; at
one moment depression, and almost dismay, at the
announcement of the stoppage of the Royal Rank
and the Liverpool Ranking Company ; ami to-tlay
again, we have the show of returning confidence
and comparative cheerfulness. This latter feel
ing arises from the satisfaction entertained by the
public that the Rank of England has afforded the
required aid to one of the leading commercial
houses here, all parties interring, from that con
siderate step, that the door is open to any one who
can make out a similar claim. The business of the
week has been transacted at § to £d decline from
♦he quotations of Friday last; but this morning
there is a turn round, and higher prices are de
manded. Up to this moment, however, no great
deal has been done at higher rates, nor is there
I such business going forward in any way, some of
he spinners returning home without buying at all.
;VVe make no allusion to money matters, and their
bearing upon our market, having made a full re
port on that subject in our circular of last week;
we merely add, that that great difficulty still re
mains as before. 1900 American have been taken
bn speculation, and 9420 for export Sales for the
Week 15,160 bales. —Geo. Holt &, Co.
Another Report.—A variety of unfavorable cir
cumstances, combined with the stoppage of the
Royal Rank of this town, very materially increased
the gloom and depression which previously exist
ed. The market has been in a most unsettled
-state throughout the week; prices were very ir
regular, and the quotations for many descriptions
<]uite nominal. Forced sales for cash payment
were made yesterday at a decline of gd per lb. for
the current qualities of American. The disposi
tion of the Rank of England to affor I relief has,
■however, given much more confidence, a deeided-
Jy improved feeling being manifest to-day, and with
a large attendance of buyers prices have recover
ed Jd to pi from the extreme decline previously
■submitted to. Speculators have taken 1900 Ame
rican, and exporters 2420. The sales for the week
amount to 15,160 bales—United Rrokers.
Report for October 23.—The Cotton market to
day, up to its close, was very flat. About 2000
bales changed hands, and at prices generally ob
tained yesterday. The sales were nearly all to
consumers.

Sand’:; Sarsaparilla-
The deaths from Small Pox in London arc about i
300 per annum, though when the population was
one-fourth less they exceeded 5,000. This was !
before Vaccination was practiced. If the statistics >
of ulcerous and eruptive diseases in this country
could be ascertained, before and since the intro
duction of Sand’s Sarsaparilla, a material difference
would probably be presented, tor it is a fact which
no one not disposed to impugn the most veracious
testimony will dispute; that thousands of cases of
Scrofula and other maladies affecting the skin and
fleshy fibre, have been eradicated by the use of it ;
I and then too when the old remedies (so called)

Wistar’s SSalsam of Wild Cherry-
Baskenridgk, N. J., Oct. 10, 1815.
! Mr. Seth W. Fovvlc, Boston :
Dear Sir;—l perceive by all the newspapers,
; that you are the General Agent of that very' use
ful and highly popular Medicine called Wistar’s
Balsam ol Wild Cherry. Allow me to inform you,
j sir, that I have used that medicine in my family
with decided success. Last fall my wife was quite
sick ; had a very bad cough. I consulted a physi
cian who visited her and prescribed some medi
cine, which did not remove her cough. At last he
ordered Dr. Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry. 1
immediately procured a bottle of your agent in
this place, Mr. Daniel W. Doty; she took it, and
it cured her cough entirely. During the winter I
bad a fever myself, which left me very weak and
feeble; I had a severe cough, which troubled me
some time. I had recourse to your Balsam again,
and found it highly beneficial; I was obliged, how
ever, to take two bottles before 1 was entirely well.
All who have bad colds, severe coughs, or diseased
lungs, I would advise to try Dll. WIST All’S BAL
SAM OF WILD CHERRY at once.

CIIARLESTOnTn^vT I3s—Cotton. —The Up
land market since our report of the Gth inst., has
been very much depressed. Early in the week
we received the advices per the Caledonia, and
more recently the telegraphic accounts by the
Washington. The article with us has suffered
materially in price, owing to the unfavorable ad
vices which tiiese steamers have brought out, both
in relation to monetary affairs and the continued
reduction in the value of this staple. Purchasers
on Saturday last had retired from the market and
i only about 50 bales changed hands. On Saturday
, the telegraphic advices by the Caledonia were re
ceived; and several buyers were in attendance on
_ Monday, claiming a heavy concession; holders,
however, were unwilling to accede to their de
mands, and the day passed off very quietly; but
I on Tuesday they yielded to a ccrtoin extent, and
a moderate business was done; and when we closed
i our inquiries on that day prices were reported a
r i|c. down. There were also a fair inquiry on Wed
nesday, and some transactions were effected, but
at unsettled rates. On Thursday the demand fell
off, and the market during the day was very quiet.
Y r estcrday the telegraphic advices by the steamer
Washington reached us, and for a time operations
were suspended; but as the day advanced between
2 and 300 bales were bought on speculation, at a
further reduction of Jto |c. Under existing cir
* cumstances it is impossible to give quotations, and
y we must await the result of luturc operations to
establish prices. The transactions of the week
comprise 2150 bales, against the receipt in the
s same time of 3587 bales. The sales are as follows:
105 bales at 6j; 66 at
£ 7j; 42 at 7|; 750 at 7A; 445 at
181 balps at Bc. These Bc. sales were among the
operations of Monday. We have no transactions
to report in Long Cotton.
Salt. —The receipts of the week reach 3510
sacks, a part of which has been sold at 1 20; and
about 200 small sized sacks from store, at $1 12.js
j per bushel. Some 2000 bushels Turks Island, re
ceived since our last, brought 20c. per bushel.
1 Freights. —To Liverpool, Cotton in square bags
i, a |fd.; and to Havre a .lc. and very little offering,
wc quote to New York 50c. per bale, and 37. J for
Rice; and to Boston 5-I6ths for Cotton, and $1 per
tierce for Rice.
SAVANNAH, Nov. 12.— ; Cotton .—Arrived since
the sth inst. 2,198 bales Upland (1,151 per Rail
Road,) and 13 bales Sea Island. The exports for
same period are 2,040 bales Upland, as follows : To
New i ork 1,114, to Baltimore 181, to Fhiladelphiia
251, to Boston 478, and to Charleston 41 bales—
f leaving a stock on hand including all on shipboard
not cleared of 7,601 bales Upland, and 664 bales
Sea Island, against 20,-164 bales Upland and 412
, bales Sea Island at the same time last year,
j At the close of our last review we left the'mar
ket in a very quiet state. On Saturday and Mon
day there was a moderate demand, and about 300
I bales were sold within the range of our quotations
last week. The receipt of the Caledonia’s ac
counts put a stop to the little business doing on
Tuesday. On Wednesday some small sales were
effected at a decline of J of a cent, and Thursday,
holders manifested a disposition to make further
concessions, and some sales were made at a further
decline of 4of a cent. It will be remarked that
the stock ol Cotton for sale is very small, and
planters not being disposed to submit to the recent
decline, are storing their Cotton for better prices,
j Our market closed very languid, with a down
ward tendency. We make our quotations as fol
! lows from last sales :
Middling to good Middling 1\
Middling Fair 7.^
Fair to fully Fair 7g a7|
The sales of the week amount to 678 bales, as
follows: 9>J at 8|; 75 at 8|; 164 at 8J; 117 at 8; 29
at 7£; 91 at 7iJ; 70 at 7g; 62 at7.j.
Rice. —The market this ivcck has been rather
quiet, and the sales made have been at a decline of
one quarter of a cent. The sales of the Aveek
sum up 623 casks, viz : 100 at 3|; 150 at s3£; 135
at s3jf; 43 at 35 16; and 100 at s3| a 3 3-IG.
Hay. —About 200 bales of Eastern Hay have
been disjiosed of at $4 per 100.
Corn —ls selling from Store at 74 a 75 per bush.
Flour —We note sales of 30 bbls. Georgia at s6|.
Salt. —The imports this Aveek have been large,
and the sales amount to 4,.500 sacks at $1,37.4-
Groceries. —We have no transactisn to report,
the business being exclusively for the retail trade.
The past Aveek has been one of unexampled dull
ness.
Exchange. —Sterling is nominal. The Banks are
checking on the North at 4 per cent, prem. They
purchase sight to 5 day bills at par: 30 day bills at
3; 60, 1£ dis.
Freights. —To Havre, Ic. for square and 1£ for
round bales. To Liverpool, no freight offering.—
The rates to Ncav York are 4 to 5-16 for Colton,
and 75 per cask for Rice, and per bushel for
Corn. To Boston, ga 4 for Cotton, and sl£ for
Rice.
MACON, Nov. 12.— Cotton. —The Cotton mar
ket is exceedingly dull. The very unfavorable
commercial intelligence from abroad, received by
the steamers Philadelphia and Caledonia, has still
farther depressed Avhat Avasby no means before, a
spirited market. The transactions since Tuesday
have been unusually light; and prices have reced
ed full | of a cent since the receipt of the lastneAvs.
We quote to-day G a 64.
MONTGOMERY, November 10.— Cotton.~~ Our
streets present all the appearance of business judg
ing from the crowds of people and Avagons. The
cotton comes in freely, but in consequence of the
present low rates, and the hopes of better news by
the steamer, there was very little selling—all stor
ingforbetter prices. We quote extremes G|c a
7c ; chief sales 6£ a G|c. Stock on hand 10,479.

[Transmitted for the HaJtimore American.]
NEW Y ORK, Nov. 10. G P. M.—The Flour mar
ket was not quite so heavy to-day, and there was a
brisk demand, through entirely for Eastern and
home use. The hcavs by the steamer Washington
not having had the slightest effect on the market —
About 8000 barrels Avere sold at $6,15, $6,31 and
$6,27^ for some prime lots of Genessee. A small
lot of Southern brought $6 50, {Shippers do not
enter the market.
Cotton is Avithout activity. Spinners are buying
small amounts, and the tendency is still downwards.
About 100 bales were sold to day.
