of the lamented Mclntosh, cleared at New Orleans for this port on the 7th inst., and may be expected here some day next week. Yesterday the Officers of the Ist Regiment Georgia Militia had a meeting, at which a Com mittee was appointed to make all suitable ar rangements for the interment of the remains in the family vault in this city. The Legislature has already passed a bill making the necessary appropriation to defray the expenses. (Correspondence of Ike Constitutionalist.) GEORGIA LEGISLATURE. MILLEDGEVILLE, Dec. 14th, 1847. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Mr. Phillips introduced a bill to appropriate money for the political years ISIS apd 1819. The House resumed the unfinished bu»i twsa of yesterday, which was the report on the bill for the removal of the seat of Gov erment. Mr. Jackson of Walton, offered the follow ing additional section: And be it further enacted. That the future seat of Government in Georgia shall be fixed at Atlanta in the County of DeKalb, or Ma con in the County' of Bibb, or Milledgcville in the County of Baldwin, or Griffin in the County of Pike, as a majority of the voters -of Georgia at the October election for Mem bers of Congress in 1848, shall determine, and that this act shall be published by order of the Governor, arid the people be requested to put on their tickets at said clection“Atlanta,” •‘Macon,” “Milledgcville” or “Griffin.” Mr. Jones offered the following proviso: Provided all ncccssaay public buildings are fully prepared and a junction through Macon ha formed between the Macon and Western and Central Rail Roads without expense to the State. Tho Proviso was rejected. Mr. Harris of Baldwin, then offered the following amendment to the section of Mr. Jackson : That the future scat of Government ia Georgia, be at such place as a majority of the Voters of Georgia at the October election for Members of Congress in 1848 shall desig nate. Mr. Jackson of Walton, offered the follow ing proviso to the section offered by himself. Provided that the people at said election be also requested to endorse “removal” or “no re moval” upon their tickets, and in that event that a majority* voting thereon shall put no re movals, then this act shall be void, otherwise it shall be in full force and virtue. Whereupon the yeas were 61, pays 61. — 'There being a tic, the Speaker cast his vote in favor of the proviso, and the proviso w?is re ceived. Mr. Freeman offered the following as an amendment to tRc section offered by Mr. Jack aon, of Walton > ‘'and the Jplace of future lo cation of the Penitentiary' of this State.” Upon receiving the amendment, yeas 39, nays 81. The amendment was therefore rc jeeted. Mr. Jones moved to insert “or Milledgc ville” in the additional section offered by Mr. .Jackson. Yoas 64, nave s£; so<he amendment was received. Mr. Jackson, of Walton, moved to strike out the word “majority,” and insert “plurali ty.” Yeas 4G, nays,7Gj so the motion was re jected. Mr. Speer moved io insert “Griffin” in the * section offered by Mr... Jaelrson. Yens 73, nays 46; so the motion to insert prevailed. Mr. Walker, of Richmond, -imwed the pre vious question. The ,call fo 7- the previous question was sustained. Yeas 79, nay's 4u. The question then recurred upon the main question, which was the receiving the addi tional section offered by Mr. Jackson, of Wal ton. The section was rejected by the House. The question then recurred upon the pas sage oT the bill. -Yeas 55, nays 67. The House suspended the special orders to take up a resolution of -the -Senate requesting the Governor to pardon two female convicts in the Penitentiary. The House concurred in the resolution. The House then took up .the resolution of inquiry' relative to the appointment by Gov. Crawford of Col. Calhoun to be Lieut. Colonel of the Squadron of Mounted Volunteers, and .of Col.
