-in sales in consequence. About 3,000 barrels were

•amount to 8,000 bushels, at 72 a 78 cents for white,
and 73 a 78 cents tor yellow.
Cotton continues firm, and holders are in good
spirits. The sales arc to the extent ol GOO bale* at i

The excitement with regard to the country
banks 61' continues, though there has been no new
failure reported to-day. The loss among our small
'dealers and mechanics is very-heavy.
The Hibernia sails to-morrow, on her first trip
from "Arts port, with thirty-six passengers already

Sterling exchanges (to-day) on London, is at 11.
No tidings of the French steamer yet. She has '

A REMARKABLE mineral, pronounced by
jtV. geologists to be a great rarity in nature and :
known to them by the name of Tripoli, has lately |
been discovered in this country, although but in one
bed, of very narrow limits, all owned by the “Mount ■
Eagle Manufacturing Company,” incorporated for j
the sole purpose of its manufacture.
The article is excellent for burnishing and clean
ing all finished metallic and glass surfaces, such as
| gold, silver, brass. Britannia and steel ware, win
dow glass, Ac. Nothing has ever yet been discov
ered equal to the pure Tripoli, and the -common
Iwiguage of the consumer is. it is the best thing
