Blow for the Contrast i In ISIG, when hostilities broke out between this country and Mexico, a certain act was passed by Congress by a vote of one hundred , and seventy-four yeas to Putin er.v nays, declar ing that the war was brought on BY THE j ACT OF MEXICO. Among the yeas, it was ; ti source of gratification to us, and no doubt ° to the people of Georgia, that every represen- 1 tative from this State, gave has vote, ayj; t-» , to the bill. But what a sad picture does the above vote now present to us. Two of our ; members, THOMAS BE TLER KING and ROBERT TOOMBS, who voted in 181 G, that the war was brought on by the art of Mexi co, in ISIS, we find voting that the war was | "unnecessarily and unconstitutionally begun by the President of the United States; ’ and voting with them we find the name of AT.EXANDER HAMILTON STEPHENS! another repre sentative fom Georgia! Scripture teaches j ns, that ho who is not for us is against us. I Common sense teaches us Jchat he aho is nut fur his country is uai ist it. Two of our rep resentatives have been for and against, and another is now found in their company ! We will not place these three members, nor j use the terms that their change ut position provokes, but leave that for the people of this State and Union to do. That their course on this question may not be forgotten by the present generation or posterity, we place then., j with the company they have selected, in op- | po-ite columns, and shall keep the list in our paper until their names become i s familiar us ! household words. Here .they arc; 1816. J ‘ ISIS. Whereas, by the act i lie it Peso lied, That of the Republic of Mex- j thanks ho rcturncd'to ico, war exists be- Gen. Taylor, &c. “in u ween the U.
