amendment, was to take from American, the
first four letters, and substitute Mex —that is
the impulse—the true impulse. They were
disappointed in the third-rate lawyer, James
K.Polk, and his administration—they thought
it so weak that it would titter and fall of its
own accord. The did not calculate on the
lion-strength, and determined course it has
pursued, and to “head it or die”—for one or the
other was inevitable—they have by their votes
placed their oxen country in the wrong, and
taken sides with the perfidious Mexicans!
The Tories of the Revolution thought they
were right, but the great body of the Ameri
can people thought otherwise, and the greater
majority of their descendants think so still.
Their names have been handed down, and
even their children’s children, to this day,
have cause to blush on the mention of the
deeds of their ancestors. The Hartford Con
vention Federalists also thought they were
right, and we suppose think they are yet, as
we find the greater portion of them now op
posed to the Mexican war. Rut did the peo
ple think they were light—do they think so
now—will they ever think so: The opponents
of the Mexican war are in as bad a predica
ment as the Hartford Convcntionists, and the
few southern whigs who have been gulled by
them, with the hope of getting into power,
will yet see the day, when they will put down
klieir vote on the above amendment as one of
the worst acts of their lives.
When our country is involved in difficulty,
the sentiment of every American is, and ever
will be
“Our Country right or wrong—if wrong we
will right her.” But not by taking part with
her enemies. S.

! APALACHICOLA, Jan. B.— Cotton The re
ceipts during the past week amount to 2,113 hales,
and the exports so 1,443, leaving the stock on hand
not cleared. 8,69') bales, against 20,020 bales, same
tune last year.
VVe closed our review of Saturday last with a
very limited inquiry (or Cotton, the transactions of
the day only amoun mg to 44 bales, ail parties
waiting the steamer’s accounts then due. On Man
day. in the absence of those accounts, there was
but little movement in the staple, the operations ol
the day only amounting to 147 bales. Tuesday
there was still less inquiry, but three small lots
having been sold, amounting in the aggregate to 61
hales. A telegraphic report of the steamer’s news
having reached ns 'Tuesday evening, there was
rather more disposition to operate on Wednesday,
and during the day 227 bales changed hands at ;
prices cunent previous to the arrival of the .‘-team- !
cr, although in some cases the rates paid were |
thought to be a shade higher. Thursday’s trans- :
actions were limited to 1 14 bales, and yesterday ,
only 73 bales were disposed til. Up to the close o(
our inquiries to-day. we could learn > f the sale of
but two small lots, one of 26 and the other of 29
bales. 'There is however considerable inquiry in
the market, an 1 a sight concession on the part of
factors would probably fead to more extensive
transactions.
The sales of the week foot up 707 bales, all of
which we believe has been taken on Northern ac
count. W e make no change in our qnatations, but I
would remark that the sales since tlie Steamers
news have been at our outside figures.

GENERAL NERVOUS DERANGE
MENTS.
New York, Nov. 1, 1817.
To Dr. A. TL Christie ;
4 CLOUDING to my promise, I address you ,
IJL and with feelings of sincere g atitude. For
I six years I have been a sufferer, anti 1 believe :
none could have suffered more, Mv disease was
a comp ication of complaints, brought on by exer
tions to support my family, being often obliged to
work at the n> edlc for twenty hours out of the j
twenty-four. 1 was afflicted with distress in the
head; my sight was im aired, aird a general weak
i ness seemed to prostrate my entire faculties. 1
was under the care ot Dr. Stillwell, No. 13 Sul
toik-st. and several other physicians, for a long
time, but my case was so stubborn that it battled j
the skill of every physician 1 tried. My nervou*
j excitement was such that the slightest noise w ould
sometimes thro a rue into convulsions. Sometimes ;
1 could not close my eyes during the night, and
would walk the room half the time. For over a
year 1 was so deaf that I could scarcely hear any
one speak. My life has been constantly despaired
ot, anil 1 often wished death to relieve my suffer
, ings. Such is a teehle statement of my situation
last June, when I first heard of your Galvanic
Belt and Magnetic Fluid. On stating my case, you
liberally presented me with the articles. I have
worn them ever since, and the result is, that /
HAVE COMPLETELY RECOVERED MY
/TEA/. I'll, MY STRENGTH, AND MY
SI*HUTS. My friends, my physician and myself,
are confident that it is owin : solely to the use of
your wonderful Belt and Fluid that this hrp *v re
sult has come to pass, and 1 shall ever gratefully
acknowledge it. and am now, and will be at all
times, ready to state any farther particulars, or to
salisiy the public that my assertion* are true in
