CHARLESTON:, Aug. 10.— Cotton —The Cot
ton market - throughout the week just brought to s
close has been in a quiet state , the operations hav
iug been limited to some 1600 bales. Since our
last publication, the advices by ihe Cambria have
come to hand, and notwithstanding the high point
at which prices ruled prior to her arrival, the ac
counts hatre further stimulated prices, and when
we closed our enquiries yesterday, most qualities
had improved an | to j[c on the prices paid at the
close of the preceding week ; the transactions,
however, have been too limited to establish prices,
and we ‘berefore find it impossible to give quota
lions. The following is the result of the week’s
business, and the annexed prices will gire a fair
indea of the state of the Upland market at the
close of the week. The receipts have been 1,634
tales, and the sales 1,331 bales, as follows, viz
124 bales at 81 ; 196 at 9; 13 at 9J; 61 at 9j(; 106 at
9s; 100 at 9g ; 91 at 9|;277 at 10; 241 at 10|; 246 at
and 9z bales ai 10|c. The transactions in
all de ci iptious of Long Cotton have been limited.
The stock i- light, and holders are asking very
foil prices, and henae the w thdrawal of bnyers.
The transactions so far as we can learn hare been
confined to s<me 30 bales of all descriptions.
Flour. —There has been some activity in the
IPlour rnai ket during the week, but the transac
tions have been confined almost exclusively to par
cels taken on speculation. The transactions foot
tip 1000 a 1200 bbls. Philadelphia and Baltimore.
The former changed hands at 3| and 6; and the
latter at prices ranging rom 5J to $64 per barrel.
An advance is asked on these rates, but we have
no transaction* to report- About 100 bbls. “Bellc

Philadelphia and Baltimore.
Ji'icon. —The market bus been quiet during the
week. The only transactions of any inagnitade
was the sale of 70 finds. Sides at a price within
the range of our quotations. Small parcels com
mand a 7£.
Fnights. —There is very little Freight offering
lor any point. We quote to Liverpool. Colton, in
square bags, 4 d nominal; to Havre, 9-16ths
was {laid for a full cargo. Rice is being shipped
to New Vork at per tierce—no cotton oner

NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 4.— Colton.— The ac
cooats by the Europa, bringing dates of the 14th
ult.,ure very favorable, showing an increased con
sumption at a« advance of Jd., fait
44d and Middling 4J a 4jpl. These favorable ad
vices, in conjunction with the gloomy prospects
/or the growing crop and our unusually small stock
have raised pric< s 'considerably above the rates
current in Europe. The sales of the week have
an consequence been limited to some 360 bales
Prices are in a measure nominal, as there appears
to be no demand for Europe, and as many factors
arc not satisfied with the high rates paid last week.
We »ivc the annexed quotations, based upon the
few sale* transpired, more as a reference than as a
criterion of the state of the market,
