Alarming Scene in a Theatre.— Rather a serious accident occurred at Niblo’s on Tues day night, at the commencement of the per formance of the Fete Chamepter. As Miss Adele Lehman was ascending a short ladder, which had been inadvertently placed too near the side lights, her dress took tire from one of them, and she was almost in stantly enveloped in the blaze. One of the Ravels, who was standing on the other side of the stage, seized a blanket, which was, for tunately, lying close at hand, and wrapping it around her, extinguished the flames, but not until she was quite seriously burned.— Medical aid was immediately pn attendance. Miss Lehman is one of the worthiest ladies upon the stage; she will be disabled from per forming probably for several days, A Novel Patent. —By reference to ou r list of Patents, it will be seen that Mr. T. D* Stagg of this city, has just received a patent for a new way of preparing beef stakes for cooking. He passes the steak between a pair of toothed rollers, previous to cooking, which has the effect to make the meat very tender. To all that chews, the use of the machine will no doubt be a convenience. lowa. —The Legislature mef*on the 2d inst, The message of Governor Ansel Briggs shows the receipts into the treasury from October 31, 1848, to November 4, 1850, to have been $90,444 30 —paid out $900,442 94—leaving a balance of sl, 391 The revenue assessed in 1850 amounted to $56,538 33—showing an increase from 1848 of the reveuue from taxa bly property within the State of $20,409 728. THE BEST REMEDY I NOR COUG HS, COLDS & CONSUMPTION 1 ever used in New Jersey, says the Plainfield Union, of September 26, 1848, is Wistar’s Balsam ot Wild Cherry, which has been so d in that State a number of years, and after this long trial, we are enabled confidently to state, that it has given better satisfaction, and more of it has been sold and used, than any other Patent Medicine for the same disease —and we have no doubt it is the best medicine now before the public for the diseases for which it is advertised. It has, in many cases done great good, affording much relief to the sick and afflicted, anti we safely recommend it to all who are troubled with Coughs, Coids, Consump tion and all other diseases of the Lungs, as a val uable, safe and most useful medicine. From the Dedham (Mass.) Gazette,Feb. 18, 1349 The introduction ol this famous medicine to the public by iSetli W. Fowle, has been of more ser vice, probably, than any other article that has yet been discovered, and has effected more cures oi various complaints that “flesh is heir to,” than all the miserable compounds that have ever yet been trumpeted throughout the country. The numerous certificates in his advertisement fully substantiate the virtues of it. Beware of imposition. Remember the original and only genuine Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cher ry, always bears the wiitten signature of I. Butts on the outside wrapper. For sale by Seth \V. Fowle, Boston, Mass, and by his Agents throughout the country. Price. £ 1 per bottle ; 6 bottles for five doll ars. For sale by Haviland, Risley At Co., Barrett, Carter & Co., W. K. Kitchen, D. B. THIS admirable remedy for cougns, colds, in fluenza, asthma, bronchitis, and all affec tions of the throat and lungs, has now been before the public for the past year, dming which time it has been tested most thorougnly by the most com petent to decide upon its merits. Every one knows the virtues of Cod Liver Oil, but it is like a “ sealed book” to thousands of suffering in valids, on account of its repulsive taste and smell. The proprietor has entirely obviated this without detracting from the medicinal virtues of the oil, by combining it with certain other celebrated cu ratives, in the form of a most agreeable article of confectionary, by which it can be administered to the most delicate invalid without the least incon venience. The medical influence of the candy pursues the exact track of the inflammatory ac tion, causing cough. First soothing the organs of the voice, the seductive infl ences passes along the mucuius lining of the windpipe into the bron chit, and allaying pulmonary irritation, giving ease and comfort to the chest, restoring the voice to its accustomed clearness and powers; congealed phlegm, acrimony in the fluids, and obstructions in the glands are gently and safely discharged by easy expectoration. It ."ever disagrees with the stomach —a common cold yields to its benign in fluence in a few hours, and when resorted to be fore tbe complaint is far advanced, all dangers of consumption is entirely prevented. Purchasers must beware of counterfeits, as its rapidly in creasing popularity has excited the cupidity ol certain druggists and confectioners, who are pre paring an article under the same name, put up in similar style, with a copy of the former wrappei, and are thus endeavoring to palm their miserable imitation upon the public as the gmuine article Be sure and call for Bliss’s Compound Cod Liver Oil Candy, which will in future be enveloped in a new and elegant wrapper, bearing appropriate designs, representing the codfisheries on our coast, and persons engaged ii the manufacture of the Oil. Also a fac-simlle of the signature of tne pro prietor, withont which n ne can be genuine. Prepared only by B. K.
