Augusta Markets January 17, P- M-
Cni ION. 1 here has been a good demand
to-day, and the sales are to some extent, and at
little easier prices from our quotauons of Wed
nesday last. No tidings of the steamer yet. Her
arrival is looked for with much anxiety.
CHARLESTON, Jan. 17.—Cotton.—-The Cot
ton market was quiet at the time we made up our
former report, tae transactions on Thursday hav
ing been limit <J s o about 1300 bales at the stand
ard of 13| to 13£ for lair quality 5 on Friday how
evei-—the first day of the week under review—j
purchasers bought rather freely, the sal? s having j
reached iiea ly SHOO bales, and the prices paid at
the close of the week were fully sustained, but on
Saturday the demand fell off materially , and the
extreme rates of vhe previous day were with dif
ficulty obtained—sales, 1596 bales. The market
was almost deserted in the early part o Monday,
at iea-t, solar as the remark is app icable to buy
ers, but : s the day advanced, several of them
were drawn out in consequence of the somewhat
fovorable terms « ffereJ by factors, and a lair a
mount of business was done at about | decline on
the middling and lower qualities. The market on
l'uesday exhibited no new feature, if we except
a dight improvement in the demand On Wed
nesday the demand was rather active than other
wise and factors obtained their asking prices
more readily than they had been able to do for
several days,at least such was ihe case on the high- (
sorts. Yesterday the market was very quiet, '
the trade seemed to come to a tacit under- (
standing to hold over tor this day at least,
hoping 1 o learn something of the steamer At
lantic, whose arrival is anxiously looked for.— |
in revising our quotations at the close of the

Ine market which was depressed last week has
become buoyant, and prices have rallied ’ The
receipts comprise 0000 bushels, 2000 of which had
been sold prior to arrival at 70; and 1000 bushels on
arrival at 73c; 'The balance was ordered for the
interior.
Bacon—We have never known the market so
bare of Sholulders and Sides as at present The
stock, which is very light, is centered in a few
hands, and is selling out in small lots at very high
prices. Our quotations, in the present position of
the market, must be considered nominal.
Mol/asses —The very heavy receipts of the pre
vious week have depressed the marke , and prices
are reported easier. New Orleans, that was sel
ling at 32 and32£c. has been sold this week at 30
and 3ic We continue our former quotations for
Cuba. A lot of 40 hhds. brought 2ie per gallon
'There is no Trinidad or Muscovado on the mar
ket.
Freights—The rate to Liverpool for Cotton in
square bags, has fluctuated during the week be
tween i aed 5-16thsd. and the week closed with
snip nasters asking the former rate. The vessels
reported loading for Havre in our ,ast, have com
pleted their cargoes at go. a lc. for sjuaie bales
and Sea l lands, and $2,5 > for Rice. New York
rate is 5 16th lor Cotton; and #1 for Rice; and to
Bostoii gc. for Cotton and per tierce for Bice.
CH ATTANOOGA, JAN. 15.-GVfm - We
have had a brisk demand for Cotton throughout
the past veek, and ali offered has had ready sa e
at lull prices. Some superior qualities have been
received, and were so dat !2£ cents. We are glad
to note the improvement of this staple, over that
of past years; and if Planters wi 1 observe a little
more attention in picking and procure good Gins,
their Cotton would compare favorably with an
Uplands. The Atlantic seaports hre more rigid in
their examinaions o T Cotton, hence planters have
an inducement to take ex. r a pains in preparing lor
tuose markets.
We give below Cotton quotations, with the ad
ditional remark, that yesterday was veiy dull, in
c nisequence of the non reception of the steamer's
news now due.

Cotton has come up free since our last—the re

Our Produce market is perfectly flat. There
has not been a sufficient tide as yet, in the small
streams in Upper East 'Ten lessee, to admit of
trading boats coming out. Until such is the case,
we shall be compelled to submit to the present
high prices charged for almost every article of
country pn duce.

ficient tide as yet, to admit the free passage of our
largest boats, wed freighted.
ATLANIA, Jan. 16.— Cotton. —The transac
t ons of the week have been larger than usual and
sales easi y effected at full prices. The quantity

MACON, Jan. 15,— Cotton.— I'here has been
some depression in our market tor a few days past
and sales have receded slightly from our last quo
tations. We have one day later advices fiom Eu
rope, which shows a decline in the lower qualities,
and a.so a decline in the market on our seaboard.
I he money market has been rather close,
to large sales a tew days past, but we think there
is sufficient funds in th market for all Cott. n of
sered. Both holders and purchasers aie awaiting
for iurther foreign accounts. Sales are from lUA

. GRIFFIN, Jan. 16.— Colton.- The dullness no
ticed in our last report resulted in tbe loss of sc.
which was gained on the arrival of the last steam

I'he steamer now due will very probably produce

LLLCTRIC WASHING FLUID,
Tor washing in hard or soft water.
THIS is the only genuine article to be found
in toe world ; and possesses double the pow
er of any .hing ever discovered for washing
clothes, at a trifling expense, doing away with
wash boards at once In fact.it seems to be the
ions sought Phi osopher 7 s Stone, ox universal sol
vent; seeming a magical preparation, its opera
tion being of the most astonishing: character. A
common sized washuig may be done with one gill
of this Hu d, m less than two hours. It softens
and removes the dirt, leaving the articles of the
mos # . brilliant whiteness. It being as harmless in
its operations as pure water, and clothing will
wear mueh longer than when lubbed to pieces by
the common method of washing.
This Fluid is a powerful ageut, to be used ip all
cases whete soap is required, particular'y for
cleansing milk utensils, cleaning windows and
paint, scouring floors ; in short, it is beyond a pre
cedent, as its use is universal in the washing world
