RICHMOND SUPERIOR COURT,
January Term, 1851.
The Grand Jury of the second week of the Jan
uary Term, respectfully report, that they have
examined the report of the County Treasurer,
made to the Grand Jury of the first week of the
present term, and find that the amount paid to the
Treasurer for the Poor School Fund is #1 ,009 50,
of this amount #359 50 has been received from
the State, and $65 0 from the County. There has
been appropriated to the Free School in the City
of Augusta #SOO, and te Free Schools out of the
City #1.290 96 the past year.
We learn, ou enquiry of the proper officer, that
returus from two oi the districts, of the number of
children entitled to the benefit of the Poor School
Fund, have been received, but are so imperfect
that they cannot be used, and from the other di
strict* in the county no returns of any kind have
been made.
Unless a correct return of all the children in
the county enutled to the benefit, of this fund is
made to the Clerk of the Court, agreeably to the'
provisions of the law, tne county will be deprived
of its f3l share of the funds set apart by the Le
gislature for this object.
The law makes it obligatory on the Justices of
the Peace in their several districts to make cor
rect returns of all the children entitled to the
benefits of this fund, and we would respectfully
request the Inferior Court to require a strict com
pliance *vith its provisions, in order that the iull
'benefit of the beneficent objects of the law may
be realized.
We would also respectfully recommend to the
lnlenor Court the appointment of two or more
suitable persons iu each district to co-operate with
the Magistrates in the performance of this duly.—
It is believed that such persons may be selected
by t ii? Court, who will cheer.ally give their aid
in this gttt*4 cause, and use their influence to in
duce a.l the children to attend the Schools that
may be establ shed in the districts.
The Jury would recommend to the Inferior
Court to assess the usual tax of ten per cent for
the Poor School Fund
They have also examined the Books and papers
in the office of the Clerk of Ordinary, and find
them kept m a neat and correct manner.
The Jury take much pleasure in returning their
'thanks to h : s Honor the Judge, and the Attorney
General, and the Attorney pro tem, for their
promptness and civility in the discharge of their
dnty, and request t lat these Presentments be pub
lished.

Augusta Market- January 24- P- IVX.
COTTON.-—We hare no change to notice in
our market. Prices are irregular, and when
sales are effected, 13 cents is the highest that can
be obtained for Fair. The quantity offering, how
erer is limited ; and both buyers and sellers are
anxiously waiting the arrival of the steamer, now
past due.
CHARLESTON, JaN. 24.—Co«o».—Prices
throughout the previous week were well maintain
ed, if we except a slight reauction which the low
er qualities sustained ; the maraet, however, was
inactive when we closed our inquiries, the tran
■actions of 1 hursday having been limited to some
500 bales The market wore rather a quiet a pect
on Friday and Saturday last, the transactions du
ring these two days having been confined to 2400
bales, at about the quotations given in report of
the 17th inst. The accounts by the Frankiin and
Asia, which reached us about this time were not
as favorable as were an icipa ed, and buyers on
Monday, Were claiming a concession) holders,
however, would not come to terms, and we had
another comparatively quiet day, the sales haviug
been limited to 120'J bales. During Thursday the
market w; s rather active than otherwise, buyers
having been drawn out in consequence of the Jis
posi'ion manifested by some ot our lactorsto meet
them, and upward -of 2300 bales changed hands.
Prices were irregular, but it was manifest that tne
former class had the advantage. The transactions
on Wednesday were again limited, and the conces
sions were more apparent than on the previous day,
the market haviug settled down sc. decline.—
Yesterday the weather was unpropitious for
outdoor business,it having rained nearly through
out the day, and it was generally thought that
very little would be done in Cotton, about noon,
however, one of our factors sold over 1,000 bales,
which swelled the transactions to 1700 bales, as
is said, at a greater reduction than is recorded
above, amounting in some instances to an addi
tional $c 5 be this, however, as it may, we made a
careful revision of our quotations, and wouid offer
the subjoined rates, as a fair criterion of the value
of this article at the close of the week, although
we are satisfied they will be thought by some
rather high. It will be seen on comparing them
with our former quotations, that we have reduced
all qualities an sc. The receipts ol the week
comprise 13 344 bales, an i the sales in the corres
ponding period foot up 8854 bales, at the following
prices, viz : —lfibalesatll; 47at115;842 at 12;
16 at 12$; 189 at 124; 9 at 12|; 486 at 12£; 321 at
12ft: 367 at 12|j 57 at 12 13-16; 576 at 12$; 1126 at
13; 68 at 13 M 6; 415 at 13$; 205 at 13 13-16; 1205
at 134; 100 at 13 5 16; 1751 at 13f;363 at 13 7 16;
793 at 134;230 at 13§; and 45 bales at 13fc. We
quote Ordinary to Good Ordinary, —a —; Mid
dling to Good Middling, 12| a 13; Middling Fair,
13$ a 13$; Fair and Fuily Fair, 13j{ a 1 §
Corn— Several parcels have arrived during the
week, and owing to the comparati e light stuck,
they have been sold at advanced rates. The trans
actions show an improvement ot from 2 to 4c. per
bushel. The receipts, which comprise very near
ly 13,000 bushe s have been disposed of as follows,
vip:— lsoo imporied by a dealer; 2000 ordered for
the interior; 1500 sold some time back to arrive at
69; and 2900 oo arrival at 75c., and the balance
has been sold at a figure above this latter price,
but the terms have not been gllpwed to transpire.
We would, however, with confidence refer to our
quotations, which will give a very correct idea of
the value of this article at the close of the week.
In addition to tfio above transactions, some 3000
ushels have been sold for future delivery at 75c.
Bacon —The market may bp said to have been
brought to a -tand, owing to the want of a Stock
to operate with. Some 40 hhds. Sides have been
sold, to arrive, at 9c. We have no quotations to
offer for eitheF Shoulders or Sides, but wouid ie
mark that they are very much wanted, and the
first arrivals mu3t command high prices.
Coffee. —There has been some demand for Rio
Coffee d«r in g the week, and from first to last, we
suppose tfeajt upwards of 1000 bags have changed
hands. Prices have shown an upward tendency,
fihe transactions hay© been at extremes ranging
from 11$ t > 12$c., and as high as 124 c. fi r small
parce s.
Freights■ —The rate ot freight for Cotton to Li
ve ipocl in square bags during the week has stood
at 5 16thsd A vessel is loading for Havre at fc.
•or square bags; ic. for Sea Island, and #2.50 per
600 lbs. for Rice. The Coastwise rates are the
-ame as previously reported, except Rice, which
is being shipped at an sc. advance. We quote—
New York 5 16th for Cotton; and #1 a 1,124 f°r
R,ce; and to Boston fc. for Cotton, and #1 per tc.
for Rice.
SAVANNAH, Jan. 23 —Cotton.—-Yesterday
the market was very dull, the sat*s being limited
to 332 bales, as ollows: 7at 124; 2 at 12|j 7at
124; 95 »t 12$; 50 at 12 15 16; 145 at 13; sat 3s;

. - «o notice in prices.
J chibfte w
CHATTANOOGA, Jan. 22— Cotton. —We have
to report a very dull week for the sale of Cotton
since our last publication; the depression of other
markets, in consequence of the non arrival ot Eu
ropean steamers, has had it* corresponding effect
here, and buyers have insisted upon reductions,
which holders would not submit to. Large lots
are now offering in our market, but no sales were
reported yesterday. Buyers show a disposition to
advance their figures |c. We omit quotations, in
consequence of the unsettled state ot the market.
The receipts of Cotton since our last, amount to
about 2000 bales.
MACON, Jan. 2 i.—Cotton. —Prices continue a
bout the same as last week—the late foreign ad
vices having made no perceptible change in the
market. It is moderately active, all Cottons of
sered being readily purchased at quotations. We
quote sales at 10 to 12| extremes—the latter price
paid for all fair Cottons. Principal sales from 111
to 12£ cents.,
ATLAN lA, Jan. 23.— Cotton.— The transac
tions of the week hare been la> ger than usual, and
sales easily effected at 10 to 12£ cents—pri .cipal
ly at 12 to 121. The receipts of the week have
been large and 2115 bales changed hands. The
news received by the Asia has not had any effect
on our market. We quote fair 121; middling 12 to
12£; ordinary 10 a 11.
Our produce market is limited, and provisions
high. Every thing in the way of eatables aie
scarce, and bringing full prices.
Bacon—'There is scarcely any in market at any
price, though we undeistand there are a few small
lots of new Bacon arriving, which will re: dily sell
at 10 to 12£ cents.
GRIFFIN, Jan. 23.— Cotton.— Our Cotton mar
ket is without change since last week, and what
is offered is freely taken at last week's pricet, say
12£ for fair.
The receipts at the ports which were about 60,-
000 bales short one mouth ago have caught up, and
are slightly a headot last season, which no doubt
will produce depressi on and lower prices.

PROF. A. C. BARRY’S TRICOPHE
ROUS,
OR MEDICATED COMPOUND.
INFALLIBLE for renewing, invigorating and
beautifying the HAIR, removing the scurf,
dandruff - , and all affections of the scalp, and curing
eruptions on the skin, disea-es of the glands, mus
cles and integuments, and relieving stings, cuts,
bruises, sprains, Ac. With this preparation ‘‘there
is no such word as fail." The first journals in
America, medical men of the higuest eminence,
prominent citizens of all professions, and ladies
who have used it for years in their dressing rooms
and nurseries, admit with one accord, that for im
parting vigor, gloss, luxuriance and curl to the
hair, eradicat ng scurf and dandruff, healing
j wounds, curing contusions, sprains, stings, Ac.,
and relieving diseases of the skin, the glands and
the muscles,it has no equal among the multitude
of compounds advertised in the public prints, or
used in private practice. In cheapness as wed as
efficacy, Barry’s Tricopherous is mmvalleu. The
immense cash sales ol the article have enabled
the inventor to supply it at retail, at 25 cents per
bottle, which is from 50 to 100 per cent less than
the pr ce of any other preparation for the hair now
in use. The scien.itic treatise on the hair and the
skin, (embracing valuable diiections for the cul
ture and preservation of Nature’s choicest orna
ment,) in which each bottle is enclosed, is aloue
worth the money.
The affinity between tin membraues which con
stitute the skin, and the hair which draws its sus
tenance from this triple envelope is very close.—
All diseases of the hair originate in the skin of the
head. If the pores of the sea p are clogged, or if
the blood and other fluids do not circulate freely
through the sma 1 vessels which feed the root with
moisture, and impart to the fibres, the result is
scurf, dandruff, shedding of the hair, gravenesg,
dryness and harshness of the ligaments, aud entire
baldness, as the case may be. Stimulate t eskiu
to healthful action with the Tricop. eious, and the
to 1 pid vessels, recovering their activity, will anni
hilate the disease. In all affections of the skin,
and of the subsu ata oi muscles and integuments,
the process and the effect are the same. It is
upon the skin, the muscular fibre, and the glands,
that the Tricopherous has its specific action, and
in all affections aud injury of these organs, it is a
s vereigu remedy.
