COTTON.—-Sales to-day are about 300 bales,
at prices refused yesterday.
SAVANNAH, Feb. 12.— Cotton. —Arrivedsiuce
the stb inst., 11.195 bales Upland, and 1,314 do.
Sea Islands —(6,502 per Rail Road, 3,517 from Au
gusta, 1,15 i via Darken, and 25 per wagons.) The
exports lor the same period have been 7,286 bales
Uplands, and 383 do Sea Islands, viz : to Liver
pool 3 490 bates Upland, and 325 do. Sea Islands;
to Boston 1.502 bales Upland, and 6 do. Sea Island;
to New York 1,593 bales Upland, and 20 do. Sea
Island; to Philadelphia 289 bales Upland; to Balti
more 395 bales Upland, and to Charleston 17 bales
Uplands; leaving on band and on shipboard not
cleared a stock of 49 580 baies Upland, and 2,992
do. Sea Islands, against 66,751 bales Uplands, and
1,602 do. Sea Islands at t ame time last year.
Our market was quite unsettled by the Cana
da’s news at the time we closed our last weekly
report. On Wednesday there was but little en
quiry—sales, 198 baies; on Thursday there wasga
better demand, the market being quite active
sales, 153 baies; on Friday holders refused to ope
rate at the prices paid the day before, and but lit
tle wi.s done—sales only 182 bales; on Saturday
the market was dull—sales, 428 bales. Monday
was so stormy, that but little out door business of
any kind w<»s attended to —sales, but 74 bales;
yesterday there was a better understanding be
tween buyers and sellers than at any time during
the week—sales, 813 bales, the market closing
firm at the following quotations :

29; 17 at 31}; 100 at 32 a 33. Total for the week,
295 bales. Receipts 1,314; Exports 383 bales.
Rice. —The only sales reported are 70 tierces at
2}; and 446 at 3} per 100 lbs. We notice no
change in prices Exports this week,2l6 tierces.
Flour. —We notice tbe following sales—soo bar
rels Baltimore at $5,25; 100 do. at $5,50; 100 do.
at $5.75 a $5,874, and small lots Canil at $6,50 a
$7,75.
Corn. —1,000 bushels sold from store at 80c.
Bacon. —s 9 casks new Hams sold at 11 cents.
Coffee. —About 150 bags Rio sold from stores at
12A cents.
Molasses. —We notice sales of about 500 hhds,
Cuba, on the wharf, at 23 cents; from stores, 90
bbls. New Orleans at 31, aud 100 do. at 34 cents.
Whisky. —A small lot of Western, via New Or
leans, sold at 33 cents.
Soap —6O boxes Cincinnati sold at 54 cents.
Bale Rope.— loo coils Northern made, brought
74 cents.
Salt.— l7oo sacks Liverpool coarse ,sold on ship
board at 75 cents per sack.
Exchange. —We quote Sterling at 8$ per cent,
prem.; Domestic Exchanges—The Banks are sel
fe ling sight checks on ail Northern cities at par, and
are purchasing sight to 5 day bills at 4 disc.; 30
days. $ disc.; 60 days, 14; and 90 days at 2 per ct.

ATLANTA, Feb. 12— Cotton. —There has been
a falling off in the receipts of Cotton since our
last. Tne total amount of sales only reached 753
bales with a slight decline from last week’s prices.
Prices mav be quoted this week at 11 a i2c.
Bacon.—The new is but just beginning to come
in. We hare no transactions of importance to
note. It may be quoted, hog round, at 11c.
Corn.—The supply is still limited. Small sales
are being made at 90 a 95 cents per bushel.
Corn Meal may be quoted at 85 a sl.
The shipments of Cotton hare been very heavy
during the week, both on the Augusta and Savan
nah roads.

~ AN ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council
of Augusta, and it is hereby Ordained by the
authority of the same, That from and after the
passage of this Ordinance, any person crossing the
Bridge or Bridges belonging to the City of Au
gusta, and refusing to pay the lega toll demanded
of them, shall, if a white person, be fin*-d in a sum
not exceeding Fifty Dollars ; and if a slave, or free
person of color, shall be punished by whipping,
not exceeding fifty lashes for each and every such
refusal; which punishment may be commuted to
a fine, at the discretion of the officer trying the
case.
Done in Council, this the first day of February,
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hun
dred and fifty-one.

AN ORDINANCE.
TO PROVIDE for the repairing of the Pave
ments ot the Side Walks which have been,
or may hereafter be, made by or at the expense
of lot owners, by order of the City Council.
Section L—Be it Ordained by the City Coun
cil of Augusta, and it is hereby Ordained by the
authority of the same, That it shall be the duty ot
all persons owning or haying charge of lots, op
posite to which the sida walks have been, or may
hereafter be paved, in accordance with the pro
visions of the Fifty-eighth Section of the General
Ordinance, to keep said pavements in order, by
repairing or re-paving the same when necessary
in the opinion of the Committee on Streets.
Section 2.—And be it further Ordained, by the
authority aforesaid, That it shall be the duty of
the Committee ou Streets to repair or re-pave
such of the pavements aforesaid, as they may find
in bad order, at the expense of the owners of the
adjoining lots, if such owners fail to make such
repairs or repavements themselves ; and said Com
mittee shall assess the whole expense of said re
pairs en the owners ot the lots fronting on such
side walks, which shall be collected according to
the provisions of the Fifty-eighth Section afore
said.
Done in Council, this the first day of February,
in the year of our Lord oue thousand eight hun
dred and fifty-one.
