Jenny Lind’s Power of Song. —A friend of
ours, the body guard of the editor who is still
in New Orleans, has returned, and has given
the best description of Jenny’s power of song
we have yet heard. It is worth a dozen edi
torial rhapsodies. He says, “each note com
mences at the soles of her teet and swells up
wards, like the vibrations of magnetic light
ning, to the top of her head, making her whole
body a sounding board, and filling all creation
with music for five miles round!”— Natchez

City of Conception.— The Earthquake .—
We announced y esterday that the city ot Con
ception, in Chili, had again been destroyed by
an earthquake. In 1835 it was laid iri rums
by a similar convulsion. The N. Y. Sun says:
The Conception of 1850 was but a shadow
of what it was fifteen years before. In 1835
it was celebrated for many elegant puolic
buildings and private structures. At the
time of the earthquake there was building and
nearly completed, a large and splendid cathe
dral— the finest in South America. This was
thrown down, and its pillars and stones scat
tered all over the great square, with great loss
of life among the workmen.
The city of Conception is two hundred
miles South from Valparaiso, and stands on a
Plain, perhaps two hundred feet above the le
vel of the sea. It is nine miles from the ocean,
and Talcahuano is its seaport. This latter
place doubtless met a similar fate with Con
ception, as it did in 1835, when, soon after
the shock, a huge wave, one hundred feet
high, swept in from the sea, and almost obli
terated vhe town. Most of the inhabitants
fled to the adjoining hills, and here all the
vessels in port were carried over beyond where
the houses stood, and left wrecks— 3aved,
though many were overwhelmed. Talcahua
no is much resorted to by American whaling
vessels, where plenty of pure water and good
provisions can at all times be had.

O’ BLISS’S COMPOUND COD LIVER
OIL CANDY. —The first action of this Candy is
to sooth the organs of voice, and finally to allay
all pulmonary irritation. It certainly stands unri
valled as a remedy for all affections of the throat
and chest, and, unlike many other remedies for
the same diseases, it does not disagree with the
stomach of the patient. We have never used any
remedy that is so powerful, and at the same time
fialatable to the taste, and we say this, having ful
y tested the Candy. We would earnestly en
treat our friends suffering under colds, to purchase
this Candy. Call for Bliss’s Compound Cod Liver
Oil Candy, as numerous counterfeits have been
put forth to the public.
