Scene in a. Dentist’s Office. —A male re
presentative form the Emerald Isle enters, hat
in hand, with—‘The top’o the morning to ye,
sir, an’ I got a bad tooth, an’ the devil a bit
o’comfort can I get short of a battle o’ brandy;
an’ I’ve got one of Father Matthy’s medals to
kape me from all such evil spirits, sure. Now,
sir, what’ll you be axin to pull me a tooth,
sir.’
“Half a dollar,” says the doctor.
“Well,” says Pat, “what’ll ye Dull two
for?'
Oh,” replied the doctor, “I wont charge
you anything for pulling the second one.'
Pat seated himself, turned up his mug,
and the doctor took a peep at his grinders, and
with a little assistance from Pat, soon found
which were the ones Pat wanted out.
Says Pat, ‘this is the first one, and that is
the second one. Piaze pull the second one out
first.'
•Very well,’ replied the doctor, ‘any way to
get them out.’ And he pulled;
Before he had time to fix the instrument for
the other tooth, (the first tooth,) Pat had got
out of the chair, and was edging towards the
door.
•I guess doctor, I won't have the first tooth
pulled until it aches, and you told me you
would pull the second one for nothing!’
Pat mizzled, and the doctor pocketed the
joke instead of the fee.— Yankee Blade .
The March of Luxury. —lt is said that
American nabobism is eclipsing the European
noblesse in the magnificence of its entertain
ments. We hear of a single soiree up town j
costing fifteen thousand dollars—of a party
where one thousand dollars were paid for
flowers, and ol other like extravagances. The
saloons of one splendid mansion are described
as being decorated and furnished far more
gorgeously than the apartments assign
ed to Queen Victoria when she visited the
late King of the French, at Versailles. Well,
what of it? If some of our men of wealth
, choose to ape the splendor and the exclusive
airs of the privileged classes abroad, whose
business is it but their own? Midas has a
special license from the gods to wear the ears
of an ass. We hear that rules of precedence
are about to be adopted by our aristocracy,
similar to those by which the grades of society
are marked out and regulated abroad. Pork
will yield to cotton, and cheese will take the
wall of tobacco.— N. Y. Sunday Times .

“O* BLISS’S COMPOUND COD LIVER
OIL CANDY.—The first action of this Candy is
to sooth the organs of voice, and finally to allay
all pulmonary irritation. It certainly stands unri
valled as a remedy for all affections of the throat
and chest, and, unlike many other remedies for
the same diseases, it does not disagree with the
stomach of the patient. We have never used any
remedy that is so powerful, and at the same time
palatable to the taste, and we say this, having ful
ly tested the Candy. We would earnestly en
treat our frieuds suffering under colds, to purchase
this Candy. Call for Bliss’s Compound Cod Liver
