Ihe Season. — Front all parts of the coun
try, we hear complaints of the disastrous ef
fects of the late heavy rains upon the pros
pects of the planter. Uplands hav • been terri
bly washed, and the bottoms overflowed. The
heavy rains have been succeeded by a remark
ably cool spell of weather for the season ; and
the consequence is, that Corn that is up looks
sickly and bad, while Cotton will be late start
ing. W heat looks tolerably well, and with a
moderately dry season, may be expected to
prove an average crop. We trust that spring
Will soon burst upon us in good earnest, re
mvigorating vegetation with her genial show
ers and sunshine, and inspiring the hearts
of farmers with renewed vi >or and hope.—
Anderson (S. C.) Gazette, 23 d inst.
Mr. Bonner, the painter, No. 474 Magazine
street, has rigged up a neat and tasteful sign
over his door, as an ins gnia of his profession,
denoting the business of “ the man of letters."
It is a finely drawn and well executed paint
ing, from an original by—we don’t recollect
who—representing an artist so rapt in his pur
suit of sketching the scenery of a rugged
coast, that the tide, coming in, has reached
him, floated off his hat and several other arti
cles, while a figure in the rear is informing
him of the fact, and also that time and tide
wait tor no man. Bonner is one of our oldt st
and best painters, and his workmen the first
of lheir craft.— N. O. Delta.
SPECIAL NOTICES.
ITBLISS’S COMPOUND COD LIVER
OIL CANDY.—Probably no one single article in
the materia medica has ever conferred so many
blessings on mankind as has Cod Liver Oil. But
all persons cannot use the Oil, on account of its
disgusting flavor. This fact induced Mr. Bliss,
an experienced apothecary, of Springfield, Mass.,
to compound a candy which should retain all the
virtues of the oil, and be free from its offensive
taste and odor. This candy is one of the very
best remedies for all pulmonary complaints ; but it
has its counterfeits, which must be shunned by the
purchaser. Call for Bliss's Candy and receive no
other.

MARSHALL’S MAGICAL PAIN
ERADICATOR.
* Dalton, March 15, 1851.
Messrs. W. H. & J. Turpin. —Gentlemen.— 1
hope you will excuse the intrusion of these few
lines, as l am not personally acquainted with you,
and besides am an entire stranger in your city.
I am constrained, however, to trespass on your
kind indulgence, and say some*hirig in behalf of I
“Marshall's Magical Pain Eradicator."
Such a medicine as this compound should be
widely known, and had I the gift of tongues and
the power, I would not hesitate to proclaim its
praises in the streets and on the house tops—as it
is, I speak fearlessly to all and every one. My
case was indeed a painful one, and 1 did despair
of ever getting cured, having tried physicians and
nostrums till I have gotten almost impoverished.
Rheumatism in my back is what I labored under,
but thank God, by the application of your Pain
Eradicator, I have got entirely well, and perfectly
able to attend to my usual duties. If this public
acknowledgement is of any service to you in ex
tending the reputation and value of this prepara,
tion you are liberty to use it as you may. Hoping
you all the success it so richly deserves, I remain
most respectfully yours. THOS. DUNN.

WELL TESTED.
riIHE FOLLOWING is from Col. Hammond,
X of Culloden:
Monroe County, May, 1849.
Dr. Little:—Sir: Having used your Ring
worm and Tetter Ointment in two cases ot Scald
head, 1 will cheerfully state the result. In one, it
had extended pr tty much over the scalp, leaving
but little hair, with other ill effects, as inflamma
tion, pain, &c. The other was more recent, and
seemed to be progressing in the same way. To
cure the first, we ha/e tried almost everything,
even a I ar Plaster, without success, when we be
gan using your preparation for it. Two bottles I
am glad to say, have entirely cured both cases.

ELECTRIC WASHING FLUID,
For washing in hard, or soft water.
is the only genuine article to be found
in the world ; and possesses double the pow
er of any thing ever discovered for washing
, clothes, at a trifling expense, doing away with
wash boards at once. In fact, it seems to be the
long sought Phi osopher’s Stone, or universal sol
vent; seeming a magical preparation, its opera*
tien being of the most astonishing character. A
common washing may be done with one gilt
of this fluid, in less than two hours. It softens
and removes the dirt, leaving the articles of the
nios>. brilliant whiteness. It being as harmless in
its operations as pure water, and clothing will
wear mueh longer than when 1 übbed to pieces by
the common method of washing.
This Fluid is a powerful agent, to be used in all
cases wheie soap is required, for
cleansing milk utensils, cleaning windows and
paint, scouring floors; in short, it is beyond a pre
cedent, as its use is universal in the washing world
