The President’s proclamation against the
movements in this country to invade Cuba ap
pears this morning. It was agreed upon in
cabinet yesterday.
There is information that several Hunga
rian refugees have been entrapped into the
invasion plot. Mr. Webster was not sent for,
nor was his arrival expected. The telegraphic
despatches he received had reference to the
measures being adopted by the government to
frustrate the Cubanjnvasion, and which met
with his hearty approbation.
Orders hare been sent to-day to the reven

bay, and intercept any Cuban sympathizers.

The Fastest Race. — We stated a few days
since, in noticing the race at New Or.eans
over the Metaire Cou.se, lately, bet ween Char
mer, Louis d’Or and Rigadoon, that the time
made, 10-wit, 7:41, 7:39, 7:47, and 8:02, was
the second best raace ever run in this country.
In this, we find that we were mistaken. Bos
tona and Fashion made the race in 7:32* ard
7:43; bostona beat Fashion in 7:36 and 7:43
and Bostona, Free Trader and Tallahoe made
it in 7:32*. 7:43, 7:54 and 7:02.
Alabama and Mississippi Factories. —From
the April number of Deßow’s Review, we
gather some interesting items showing the
. progress of manufactures in the above named
States. At Alabama, which
has grown up in the woods during the last
two years, with a population of 350—a factory
for Osnaburgs is in operation, with a capital
of $87,000 —eighty-one operatives are employ
ed, mostly females. The bunding is 150 feet
long and 50 wide, of brick—with sills of jast
iron. The factory contains 3000 spindle*, 100
looms, 42 cards, and all necessary machinery
—and tne proprietors expect to manufacture
daily, 4000 yards of cloth. The location of
the village is three miles from the A abarna
River.
A large Cotton Factory is in contemplation
on Loachapaka Creek, near Auburn, ( 11a.)
near the line of the Montgomery and West
Point Rail Rofd.
A project for the erection of a Cotton Fac
tory, in which citizens of Mississippi and
Louisiana propose uniting, has been started
ny several enterprising gentlemen of the for
mer State; Biloxi Bay—is suggested as a de
sirable and healthy location; and combining
cheap living with ready facilities of transpor
tation.

~CPBLISS’S COMPOUND CODIjLVER
OIL CANDY.—-Probably no one single article in
the materia medica has ever conferred so many
blessings on mankind as has Cod Liver Oil. But
all persons cannot use the Oil, on account of its
disgusting flavor. This fact induced Mr. Bliss,
an experienced apothecary, of Springfield, Mass.,
to compound a candy which should retain all the
virtues of the oil, and be free from its offensive
taste and odor. This candy is one of the very
best remedies for all pulmonary complaints; but it
has its counterfeits, which must be shunned by the
purchaser. Cad for Bliss’s Candy and receive no
other.

Augusta Market) April 30-
COTTO (. —Since our last weekly report, the
market has continued drooping, and prices gen
erally declining. By the arrival of the steamship
u Asia,” at New York on Wednesday last, Liver
pool advices to the 12th inst. have been received,
noticing a decline of 1 to *d. This intelligence,
combined with increasing receipts, has had a
tendency to alarm holders, who appear resigned
to submit to a reduction on prices before paid.
Buyers are unwilling to pay over 9| for Middling
Fair, and 10 cents for Fair Cotton. We heard of
no transactions yesterday at higher prices. This
shows a decline of 1 to 1* cents from our quotations
ot last Wednesday.

NORTH AMERICAN
ELECTRIC WASHING FLUID,
For washing in hard or soft water.
HpiHlS is the only genuine article to be found
A in the world ; and possesses double the pow
ef u l k*. n ? ever discovered for washing
clothes, at a trifling expense, doing away with
wash boards at once. In fact, it seems to be the
long sought Phi osopher’s Stone, or universal sol
vent; seeming a magical preparation, its opera
tion being of the most astonishing character. A
common sized wasting may be done with one gill
ot this Fluid, in less than two hours. It softens
and removes the dirt, leaving the articles of the
mos'. brilliant whiteness. It being as harmless in
its operations as pure water, and clothing will
wear mueh longer than when i übbed to pieces by
the common method of washing.
This Fluid is a powerful agent, to be used in all
cases wheie sjap is required, particufar'y for
cleansing milk utensils, cleaning windows and
paint, scouring floors ; in short, it is beyond a pre
cedent, as its use is universal in the washing world

Monroe County, May, 1849.
Dr. Little:— Sir: Having used your Ring
worm and Tetter Ointment in two cases oi Scald
head, 1 will cheerfully state the resulfi. In one, it
had extended pr tty much over the scalp. leaving
but little hair, with other ill effects, as inflamma
tion, pain, &c. The other was more recent, and
seemed to be progressing in the same way. To
cure the first, we ha/e tried almost everything,
even a Tar Plaster, wi.hout success, when we be
gan using your preparation for it. Two bottles I
am glad to say, ha/e entirely cured both cases.
Truly >ours, &c.,
(Signed) , Amos W. Hammond.
