DIED,
At the residence of Col. C. Myers, iu Autauga
county, Ala., on the 10th inst.. Alias Frances E.
Dansby, in the 17th year of her age, of Gastro-
Enteritis.
Her parents and two brothers are left to deplore
her untimely end. Beloved by all that knew hrr,
just about to enter the arena of life, with bright
prospects of a pleasant future, has she been seized
by the remorseless hand of death, and in the joyous
spring-time of her existence consigned to the cold
embrace of the tomb. Alas! Poor Fannie!
“Leaves have their time to fall,
And flowers to wither at the North wind’s breath,
And stars to set—but all,
Thou hast all seasons for thine own, O Death !”

OIL CANDY.—If you would avoid, reader, fal
ling by Consumption, you must take a Cold in due
season, and make use of such a remedy as has
been proved in a thousand cases preceding your
own. Such a remedy, we unhcsitantingly assert,
is to be found in Bliss’s Compound Cod Liver Oil
Candy. A common Cold will yield to its benign
influences in a tew hours, and an obstinate Cough
gives way in a short time, if due care is observed
while the medicine is in use. Unlike the Cod Li
ver Oil, it is one of the most agreeable medicines
in the world. When you purchase, look out for
counterfeits.

Shark Catching. —An occurrence took place
in our harbor yesterday, which must have been
most exciting to those engaged in the affair.
Some of our amateur aquatic sportsmen, who
have a peculiar penchant for capturing the
monsters of the deep, w hether they be the
massive, harmless, and sportful Devil Fish, or
the voracious and lerocious Shark, sent a bait
afloat in Cooper River, in the shape of the
carcass of an old horse, and following its
course with a boat, well manned, were soon
brought in conflict with a perfect shoal of
hungry sharks, of large size. The carcass was
surrounded with them, and the harpoons, with
well directed aim, were plied with such suc
cess as to kill and secure six, which were laid
out on one of our wharves, within three hours
after the boat left the wharf. They were all
large, one measuring over eleven feet in length.
The party are certain of having given death
wounds to three others. It is, we belitve,
quite tuiusual for sharks to make their ap
pearance in our harbor so early in the season.
On no previous occasion has any shark party
met with such success. Charleston Courier,

Suspicious Circumstancbs. —The ship Rod
man arrived at New Bedford on Saturday, and
reports that on the 29th of January last, she
touched at the island of Whytoohacke. On
the same day a boat landed there with nine
men. They said they had abandoned the
wha’eship Tuscarora, with the rest of the
crew in two other boats, when 90 miles south
of Mangea Island. As the Rodman was short
of hands, the captain tried to get them to ship
with him. After a while they consented on
condition the captain would land them at the
island of Roratonga. They were taken on
board and went to sea, but proving mutinous,
were put into a boat thirty miles from Rora
tonga, and sent adrift —all but one, who te.ls
contradictory stories about the Tuscarora.—-
The latter belonged to Cold Spring.— N. T\
