affairs of our Government, we will ask for
nothing but justice to the South, and that we
Will not willingly submit to any thing less.
Resolved, That we prefer the name Southern
Rights for our party name, to that of any
other.

A Handsome and Valuable Present.—On
yesterday the Southern Rights party, in tes
timony of their appreciation of his services in
the cause of the S mth, presented to Gen. G.
W. L. Smith a fine horse and buggy. The
substantial and well merited compliment, was
gracefully acknowledged by Gen. We
have no doubt but his future efforts will prove
that the expectation of his friends have not
been too highly raised by the success which
attended his canvass with Gen. Foote.— lb.

Cotton— The sales to-day amount to 400
bales at six to nine cents. The market con
tinues depressed and prices nominal.
There is a heavy gale blowing.
Augusta Market- May 24—P- M<
CO 1' I ON—-There has been a good demand to*
day but the sales have been limited at 8| for Mid
dling Fair and 9 cents for fair. A lot of Fully
Fair would bring 9£ cents.
SAVANNAH, May 23.— Cotton.— Arrived since
the 15th inst., 2,775 bales Uplands, (895 per Rail
Road, 1,853 from Augusta, and 7 via Darien,) and
115 do.-Sea Islands. The exports for the same
period have Deen 2,109 bales Uplands, and 104 do.
Sea Islands, viz : to New York 2,109 bales Up
iaud, and 80 do. Sea Island ; and to Charleston 24
bales Sea lshnd; leaving on hand and on shipboard
not cleared, a stock of 12,943 bales Uplands, and
1,248 do. Sea Islands, against 30,546 bales Uplands,
and 4,152 do, Sea Islands at -ame time last year.
Our last weekly report left the market dull aud
unsettled, iu consequence of the news per Cam
bria. The sales, on Friday were 521 bales, and on
Saturday 212 bales, at a decline of about £ cent.
On Monday 377 bales changed hands in the fore
noon. About noon, the telegraph announced the
arrival of the steam ship Franklin at New York,
and that the Liverpool market bad advanced Jd.
1 bis report had the effect to advance prices a
bout \ cent on Tuesday, and the market was quite
animated for tbe season—the sales amounting to
1,130 bales} on Wednesday 435 bales sold at full
prices. On Wednesday evening the arrival of the
Africa at New York, was telegraphed, and a de
cl ne of £ to |d. reported in the Liverpool market.
This news brought our market to a stand, and sinee
that time we have not heard of any transactions
We repeat our quotations of last week, which
were the rates paid for the last sales. The de
c ine consequent upon the Africa's news is so un
certain that we cannot fix upon figures that would
represent present rates. We quote :

The sales of Upland for the week amounting to
2,665 bales, were at the following particulars : 5
at 6; 34 at 6s; 19 at6£; 108 at 7} 24 at
7£; 18 at 7|; 72 at 8, 137 at 8£; 222 at 8£; 30 at
8f; 170 at 8$; 211 at 8$; 1,677 at 9; 103 at 9s; 115
at 9£; 150 at 10J; and 7 bales Mastodon at lo|c.
Sea Islands. —The transactions this week a
mount to but 40 bales, viz : 9 at 19} 6 at 20} 10 at
20£, and 15 at 22 cents. There is very little de
mand, and previous prices are with difficulty
maintained
Riee. —There is no change iu prices this week,
and not much enquiry. The transactions are 92
tierces at 2 13-16} 220 at 2J; 60 at 2 15-16, and 300
at $3 per 100 ibs. Exports this week 440 tcs.
Corn. —We notice sales from stores this week
amounting to 3,500 bushels, at 75 cen*s.
Groceiies —The market has been dull during
the week, and we have no large transactions to re
port, we refer to our second page for quotations of
prices of tbe leading articles. We hear of sales
of small lots of Rio Coffee at 11 cents.
Sugar.—A. sale by auction of 70 hhds. New Or
leans, was made yesterday as follows:—7 at 5,62£;
31 at 5,75; 14 at
ai d 3 at 7,87* cents.
Bacon.— We hear of sales of Bides at 10 cents.
Lime. —2oo casks from store sold at $1,12£ per
cask.
Hay. —About 1.000 bundles Northern sold on
the wharf at 80 a 85 cents per 100 lbs.
Exchange.—We quote Sterling this week at 9 a
94 per cant, prem.; Domestic Exchanges—The
Banks are selling Bight Checks on all Northern
siues at \ per cent prem., and are purchasing sight
to 5 day bills at f a £ disc.; 30 days, | a 1 per ct.
disc ; 60 days I<| a if, and 90 days at 2£ per cent,
discount.
Freights. —We hear of engagements for Liver
pool at §d. for Upland, and £ for Sea Islands.—
Coastwise—to New York for square, and 5-16
for round Cotton, and 50 cents for Rice—to Phila
de.phia 5-16 a § for Cotton, and 75 cents for Rice;
to ilaltimore nominal; to Boston 5-16 a J for Cot
ton, and 75 cents for Rice.

Prof. A. Means, of the Medical College of Geor-
gia, whose report of the same, will shortly be

These Springs, the mineral properties of which,
are unsurpassed, are situated iu Walker county,
Georgia, within two miles of the Cotoosa Platform,
on the Western and Atlantic Railroad, one hun
ured and twenty miles from Atlauta. and tvveuty
j five from Chattanooga, in a most delightful and sa
lubrious Mountain climate. The Company’s Hacks
will always be in waiting at the Depot ou the ar
rival of the cars, to convey visitors a id their bag
gage to the Springs.
