I3ij iilagnctic (Eelegvapl). Reported for the Constitutionalist. New York, May 28, P. M. Cotton.—The market is unsettled, with sales of 700 bales. Flour has declined twelve cents. Miscellaneous.— -The Senatorial elections have resulted in the choice of three Whigs, % securing the passage of the Canal Bill. The Massachusetts Congressional election has resulted in the choice of Thompson and Goodrich, Whigs, and Rantoul, Coalition. Charleston, May 29, P. M. Cotton. —The sales to day reach 1200 bales at 6 to 9£ cents. The market closes firm, and at full prices. Middling Fair may be quoted at cents. The sales of the week sum up 5400 bales. {Telegraphedfor the Charleston Courier .) New Orleans. May 27, 11,15 P. M. Tvro thousand live hundred bales of Cotton were sold this morning, at about half a cent decline. The Canada’s advices, however, soon arrested toe downward tendency, and again unsettled the market, as no sales have been effected since their reception. The receipts are one hundred and fifty two thousand ahead of last year. ( Telegraphed for the Baltimore American .) St. Louis, May 20 th. General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church.—la the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church to-day, the Judiciary Committee submitted a report on the com plaint of Wm. Lively against the Synod of New York, which was referred to the next General Assembly. A resolution was adopt ed expressing the desire of the Assembly that Mr. McGill retain the office of Professor in the Western Theological Assembly, which he had recently resigned. It is understood that he w;ll acquiesce. The report of Domestic Missions had been submitted. The resigna tion ol S. A. Alexander, Professor in Prince- Seminary, wasi accepted. New York, May 26—10, P. M. The Methodist Church Case.—The Me thodist Church case came up for trial to-day in the Supreme Court. The Hon. Rufus Choate opened the case and at the commence ment looked very feeble, but he toon rallied and proceeded with his accustomed afci ity and eloquence. He contended among other points, that his clients were trustees of the property in dispute for particular purposes connected with the church end were not au thorized to pay over any portion to parties not in connection with the church. As the plaintiffs g tberefere were, by their own admission, secedeis, they had forfeited ail claims ihey may have had upon the corpora tion property. Impr mftu. — the Editor ot the N. Y. ATLANTA, May 29.— Cotton —The market du* ritia the week has been unusually dull, and Cot ton too much deprersed for us to be able to state prices, there being no regularity whatever. The news of the Canada received on Tuesday did much to settle the market, though there is a continued want of confidence. Prices may be quoted to-day at from 5 to ?£. bacon continues in good demand with a stiffen ing market. It may be quoted at from ll£ to 12 cents ;hog round, by the quantity.§ Country produce continues to be in good de mand with sound prices; for which, see table of prices current in another column.
