23i) JHagitrt'c fclegropl). Reported for the Constitutionalist. Charleston, June 16—P. M. Cotton. —The market is unchenged. Sales 700 bales at 6 1-2 to 9 3-4. New York, June 16 —P. M.f| Cotton. —The market to-day has been quiet and unchanged. Sales 500 bales at previous rates. Treaty with Oregon Indians. —We learn ed yesterday at the office of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs that the Commissioners appointed by the Pressdent of the United States to treat with the Indians in Oregon, west of the Cas cade mountains, for thepurchase of their lands, have concluded a treaty with the Santiam band of the Callapooya tribe of Indians, by which they cede to the United States a portion of the Wil lamette valley, about eighty miles in length and twenty in width. And they have likewise concluded a treaty with the Twallatty band of the same tribe, including a country about fifty miles in length and about twenty miles in width. The lands ceded by these treaties are among the most valuable in the Willamette valley.— Wash ington Republic , 13 th inst. Revolting. —The ship John Bryant which arrived on Wednesday, from New York, cleared for New Orleans, but a part of the crew rev olted and refused to proceed in the ship. Capt. Dyer, obtained the aid of the U. S. Marshal, took out the refractory ones, and placed them in jail yes terday morning. The ship Eli Whitney, for Liverpool, was detained a day or two from a similar cause—and the U. S. JVTarshal took four men from her, and committed them to jail to await their trial. For our own part, we should at this particular time and season, prefer. “The sea, the sea, the open sea.” to the Savannah jail, and we suspect these mis guided Jack Tars will soon have the same no tion.—Sav. Evening Journal , 14 th inst. The Weather. —We had an old fashioned shower on Saturday, and for an hour the rain de scended in torrents, filling our cisterns, and cleansing our streets, both of which were great ly needed. Yesterday we had a clear sky and a bracing atmosphere, and every thing wore a re novated aspect. —Charleston Mercury, 16 th inst. New York Money MAKKETJune 13.—There is no change to notice in the quotatations for money. Were the demand very active there can be no question but what rates would in crease, but in the absence of any very marked inquiry, the market still favors the borrower. A Green One Done Brown in a Mock Auc tion Shop. —This morning a young man named A. D. Perrin, belonging to Atlanta, Georgia, went into a mock auction shop in Chatham street, where a number of Peter Funks were lustily bidding on a gold watch that was being exhibited for sale. The green ? un anxious to bring home an elegant gold lever, and massive chain, bid the watch up to six dollars, when it was knocked down. The watch was then handed over to the auctioneer, for the purpose of putting in a crystal and instead of the same one being returned to the purchaser, a pinchback, resembling the one sold, was handed over. The money was paid down, and the victim walked out with his pinchback gold watch. After showing it to a friend, he found he had been duped. With a pitiful face he went to the office of the Chief of Police for re dress. An officer was despatched for the purpose of getting the money. The same watch has been before the Chief of Police as many as twen ty or thirty times and has as often found its way back into the mock auction shop, and again into the pocket of some unsuspecting and inexpe rienced stranger.— iV.
