PAugusta Market. June 27—P. M.
COTTON.—A good demand with small sales, still
continues in our market, for the finer qualities. We
quote extremes at 6 to 9£ cents.
CHARLESTON, June 27.— Cotton. —When we
closed our inquiries preparatory to our publication
of the 20th instant, the market was quiet, with
Middling Fair valued at 9| to 9£c. Since this pe
riod the market has been very much neglected, and
the business of the week just brought to a close has
perhaps been the lightest of the season. The mar
ket was deserted on Friday last, and operations
may be said to have been suspended. Buyers on
Saturday took about 500 bales, and the sales estab
lished a slight concession in prices; and from this
time up to the close of transantions yesterday the
market has presented a depressed and languid ap
pearance, with prices unsettled, and most generally
against holders, notwithstanding that we have du
ring the week received rather favorable advices
from Europe. The week closes with 3c. reduction
on the low middling, and the qualities under, and
with the other classifications rather below the range
of our quotations, which however, we do not think
it advisable to change, for so sensativeis the market
at present, owing to the limited amount of these
classifications on sale, and the recent favorable ad
vices from abroad, previously referred to, that the
least demand for the article would strengthen prices,
and the better qualities, say from Middling up’
would doubtless assume their former position.—
The sales of the week may be put down as follows,
viz : Friday 65 bags; Saturday 515 ; Monday 407;
Tuesday 642 ; Wednesday 611; and Thursday
324—making an aggregate of 2,564 bales, against
the receipt in the same time of 3,162 bales. The
transactions may be classed as follows, viz:—2s
bales at s|; 40 at 6; 125 at 63; 66 at 6£; 146 at 6 3 *
121 at 7; 66 at 7j; 10 at 7£; 43 at 7f; 96 at
73; 421 at 7|; 169 at 8; 18 at 8 1-16; 189 at 81; 62
at 81; 34 at 8f; 42 at 83; 98 at 8£; 297 at 9; 38 at
91; 196 at 93; 48 at 9g; 81 at 91; 160 at 9|; and 14
bales at 9sc. We quote Inferior —; Ordinary to
Good Ordinary a—; Middling to Good Mid
dling 8 a 9; Middling Fair 9ja 91; and fair and fully
Fair 93 a—. J
Corn. —The receipts since our last'comprise 17,000
bushels, 10,000 bushels of which have been for
warded into the interior; 2700 bushels is still afloat
unsold; and 3500 bushels Virginia sold at 62c. The
stocks large, and prices are depressed.
Bacon. There is a heavy supply of Sides and
Shoulders, on the market, with scarcely any thing
doing in either. We quote the former nominally at
•*3c. which is the asking price for lots; we must re
mark, however, that buyers have refused to operate
at this price. The latter has been selling in a retail
way at prices ruling from 7j to Bc.
Freights. —There is very little Freight offering to
any point. The Liverpool rate has fluctuated be
tween l and 3 16ths d. for Cotton in square bags.
We quote to New York 50c. per bale for Cotton;
and 50c. per tierce for Rice; to Boston je. for Cotton;
and 75c. per tierce for llice.
ANNAII, JUNE 26.— Cotton. —The sales
yesterday were limited to 94 bales: 62at 83 ; and 32
at 8| cents. These sales were made before the ac
counts per Europa were announced; we heard of no
sale after they were known.
