DIED, Mondav evening, suddenlv.at Brown’s Hotel in this ci ty, the Hon. PHILIP DODDRIDGE, a Representative in Congress from the State of Virginia, aged about sixty years. In intellectual power, and useful qualities, «e has left hardly an equal in the body as which he was a member. In his death his State has sustained the loss of a m istible and faithful Representative, and the citi zens of this District have especial cause to . ,si death, a* it has deprived them of a zealous am e tent friend on the floor of Congress. — Nat. LATEST DATE FROM BA* BL ~(U \RI FSTON, Nov. 27.— Cotton.—At the com mencement' of the week the demand fur this staple was f, r , s c_but since Tuesday there has been a falling of) both in prices and demand. The decline on choice is F u Hy } C ent and on midding descriptions 4to i c^nts. — There is now no cotton in market that w ill bring 12 cents, and very little that will bring ll|, which is our highest quotation for very choice. The sales noticed below at 12 cents were made on last Monday, since when we have only heard of one sale being made at 11 } cents, and that was a very choice parcel, which had i‘ been in the market on Monday would readily have so.d for 12 cents. Purchasers do not shew at present much dispoi tion to operate, while, on the other hand, holders are in doubt, and appear unwilling to force sales at the rcduc. tion in price which has take place. The sales here du nn ' t' c past week have been rather limited, amounting n all to about 3126 bale® at the following prices, viz 21 bales at lOf cents; 416 at 11 ; 10 at 1H ; 353 at 11 ];3lat 11 5-16; 642 at 1 lij ; 1081 at 11? ; 577 at 111; and 298 at 12 cents, -lock now on hand 9469 bales; gtock on hand same period last year 6013 bales. The decline has been barely id per lb. from the highest point of thr market, (winch was about °4 li i,lt and that only in the common qualities. Ihe article has at no time been very freely offered at this re. duction. and towards the close of the past week t.iere was a more general demand, and decidedly more firmness in the market. The value of good and fine qualities is niaiut lined fully as high as at any former period ot the ip lKm , particularly good Upland, which is unusually scarce.
