released Kosciusko, and in the following words
did homage to his virtues:—“l restore to you
your sword. General, asking you to pledge your

ST. AUGUSTINE, JULY I. —The Indians.
We understand a rencontre took place between
a party of Indiana of tha Mtcasuky tribe, and a
parly of whites, in the neighbourhood of the
Hogtown settlement on the 19th ult. in which
one of the Indians was killed and another so se
verely wounded that he was not expected to live.
Three ofthe while men were badly wounded.—
The circumstances so far as we have ascertained
are as follows :
It appears that a party of seven Indians went
out of their bounds clandestinely, for the purpose
of hunting. After a short time they separated
and agreed to meet again at a certain spot. Five
of them had assembled when they were met by
the party of white men, who disarmed four of
them and flogged them with their cow whip*.
They were in the act of whipping the fifth when
the other two Indians made their appearance,
who seeing what was going on, raised the war
whoop and fired upon the whites. '1 he fire was
returned which killed one and wounded the
other fatally. On the receipt of the information
at the Agency, Gen. Thompson, the Agent, im
mediately summoned a council of ail tha ( hiefs
and laid the matter before them, and they unani
mously disclaimed any knowledge of the trans
action, ahd agreed to deliver the culprits up to
be dealt with according to the laws of the white
man.
We have the above particulars from a gentle
man who was present at the Council, and travel
led through the county at the time. He further
states that the statements of the Indians and
whites agree in all respects, except as to the
, number of the Indians. The whites say 15 or
20. - . ,
Five of the Indians are now in confinement.
The annual revenues of Prince Esterhazy in

mount to 18,000,000 florins. His property is at

about 3,000,000 of sheep, whose wool annually
4 produces an immense sum. It is related, that
when Prince Esterhazy was Ambassador from
. Austria to England, he one day heard a young
nobleman boasting that ho had on his estates
30.000 thousand aheep : “ And I. said Prince
Esterhazy, "have 30.000 shepherds.” Tins
was no exaggeration.

CHARLESTON, July 11.— Cotton. —There has
wnalmosl a dead calm in tha market for Cplands
the week. The transactions have been very

do. 45 cents, and 18 bales Sea Island, at 50 cents and
upwards. We continue o«r quotations for Uplands,
last week, (omitting again those of Long Cottons,)
but they must be considered as nominal, since on a
re-opsniag of the market, they may be quite different.
Uplands— Cliarleston classification; inferior 161 to
171; ordinary to fair, 171 to 131; good fair to good, 181
to 194; prime to choice, 20 to 21.
Rice. — For this article, also, th*re has been no de
mand. The few sal*t that Were made, we consider
not worth noticing. Holders remain firm, and seem
not inclined to recede, relying in a great measure on
th * smallness ofthe stock for the support of the pre
sent prices.
Flour .-—Maintains its price, but is of slow sale.
M e continue our last week's quotations. The im
ports of the week amount to 250 bbls. Philadelphia.
Grain. —There were four arrivali of Corn, during
the week, One curgo of Western, said to lie an in
ferior article, sold at 874 cent*. One cargo Virginia
stared. Os the remaining two returned from Savan
nah, one sold in the early part of the week, at prices
not transpired The other remains unsold. Ourstock
is large, and pric»s seem to be looking down. A
■malt lot of Virginia Oats brought 62 cts. Os Hay
and Peas, no arrivals.
Sugars. —Considering'he time of the season, ths
•ales in this article have been large, amounting to a
bout 150 hhds. and 22 bbls ; they consisted principal
ly of Louisiana, at from s6l to 81,common to prime;
30 hhds. Porto Rico, at from 9 to 91; the remainder,
Florida, n common article, at 61 a 7, all from stores.
Received during the week 263 hhds. Louisiana.
Coffee.—' There is no perceptible change in this
article. Our stock, which is not large, seems tube
in firm hands, and, therefore, sales made are at
prices. We notice the sales of about 100 bags Cuba
good fair to bordering on prime, at from 131 to 134.
The imports of tha week consist of 133 bags Cuba,
direct. 110 bags Cuba, 60 bags Java, 1 tierce and 61
hbls. Cuba, coastwise.
Molasses —The imports ofthe week consist of 140
hhds., 18 tierc'i and 12 bbls. Cuba, direct, disposed
of at and within our quotations —(we believe near the
lowest) for re-shipm®nt to the Noith. Holders of
New Orleans are firm at our rates.
Spin's. —Continues a dull article. We retain onr
former quotations, 150 a 2. Domestics, althaugh
scare , are of difficult sale.
Bacon. —There has been again an abundant sup
ply of Western during the week, amounting lo pro
bably 360,000 lbs. At two auction sales held yester
day, one 0f40.000 lbs. Sides, advertised, only 50 sold
at 74, rema-nder withdrawn. Os the other, 37 boxes
Sides, 34 of Hams, and 13 of Shoulders, only about

64 a7. It is supposed that the last supply for the
a ason has bs»n received from the Westward, and
that prices will not further depreciate.
Lard. —Of this article also, a fil l share has been
received last week—holders appear however lo be
firm. A lot of 60 übls. Western, a good article, sold
at 94 cents.
Mackerel. —The sales from stores of No. 3, contin
ue tube made at $5. It is, however, a heavy article-
No. 1 and 2 in market.
MOBILE, July s.—Cotton.—Our tables this morn
ing, present a corrected and we believe an accurate
account of the Receipts, Exports and Stock ofCotton
at this port, since the first of October last. The
Stock now on hand, all included, is 1726 bales. Os
this amount, there is but a ssnall quantity on sale, and
only a few bales have been sold during the week, at
prices ranging from 16 to 20 cent*. In our account
of Receipts during the season, we have included a
f-vv hundred bal-s received from Pensacola, n portion
of which may possibly have been grown in Florida.
We have received during the present week, 155
biles from St. Marks, which are also included in
our table of Receipts. These amounts are so incon
siderable, ihat we have not deemed them of sufficient
importance to require a separate account. Wethink
198,000 bales may be safely assumed as the crop of
South Alabama, for the year ending 30;h September
next.
Freights —Are entirely nominal There is but one
vessel in port, and her destination is uncertain.
NEW ORLEANS, July 3 — Remarks. —The Mis
sissippi remains at the same stage as last reported, 54
.cet below high water mark. The weather has been
cl»ar and favorable lo outdoor transactions.
Cotton —I rnved since the 26ih ultimo, 713 bales.
Cleared in th* same tim®, 11,906 bales —making a
reduction in stock of 11,195, and leaving on hand, in
elusive of all on ship hoard, not cleared on the first
ins*.,a slock of 41,253 hales. The snppli -t of Cot
ton are rapidly falling off, and transactions, conse
qnenily, must continue lo grow mo e limited- still, th’
market is as active, perhaps more so, when the high
prices and the lateness ofth® season are taken into
consideration, as could reasonably have been antici
pated. The demand, however, continues to run
principally for small parcels of th® finergrades, while
la ge nvx®il lots are but v»ry little inquired lor. The
prices paid correspond as near as possible to previous
quotations, which are continu'd. Since the IJver
p 101 advices ofth® Blh of May were receivtd, order*
from the North have been sent out, has®d upi*n the
known defied in the crop of th® Allant c stal'-s, and
under the confident expectation that prices in Europe
most go up still h gh*r; this, it is generally thought,
will have the eff-ct to keep up n little briskn®ss in our
mirket. We give the particulars ofth® following
■ales, viz: of Lou'siana and Mississippi, 500 bal s, at
18; 18, 174. 100, 191; 170,194; and of T* nn irra'd

cen.s; and 54 T< xas at 19: 105, 194 cents per lb.
We are, since writing th’ above, put in posa >raion
of Liverpool dates to tha 15th, and Havre (via Er
gland) to the 10th May. These accounts give very
favorable reports ofthe condition ofthe Cotton mar
kets in both plac=s. The Havre market is represent
ed to be very brisk at a sous advance on price*; 200
hal -s choice Louisiana had been sold at 185 c. An
extract frotnn Liverpool Circular will be found in an
other column. Liverpool classification.—Ordinary,
154 a 16; Middling, 164 n 174; Fair, IS a 19; Good
Fair, 194 a 20; Good and Fine, scarce, fair demand.
Sugar. —We quote as heretofore, on Plantation 64
a 74, m the City 64 a 7f cents per lb. Holders are
endeavoring to sustain these prices, but as fur as our
information extends, there is very little doing. Clear
