systems of Cutting, and until I became acquainted
with Mr. Chappell’s Spherical System and Elastic
.Square, I never had any assurance of what the
event o’fmy labors would be; but now, ray meas
ure obtained, 1 know the event will be a perfect,
•moolh and graceful garment; and that too, without
paving the least at tention to the form of the custovn
*. r _for all this is done by the aid of the “ Elastic
Square and Sperical Measures,” and they alone es
tablish every point, and on material and rational
principles. I should not speak in such decided
terms, were it not that 1 am perfectly acquainted
with the system, and have applied it to men of eve
ry form that can be mentioned, and have found
that it applied with equal cerlid ity to all forms.
Any person on examining Mr. Chappell’s System a
few moments can plainly sec that it does at once
obviate every difficulty in the art of fitting the hu
man shape. With this system you can prosecute
your business safely and happily—every point of
the garment is obtained with perfect accuracy—for
vour way is marked out as plain as the Carpenter’s
or any other branch of mechanism, who measure one
article to obtain another like it.
I have several certificates in my possession from
all the first tailors in Philadelphia and other north
ern cities, who have accepted Mr. Chappell's sys
tem, most of whom used Mr. Ward’s but have laid
it aside as useless.
Mr. Chappell has offered a challenge or premi
um of one thousand dollars to any person who will
produce a more perfect system for the specified use;
or one more accurate or better calculated for the
practical tailor. WILLIAM FIELDING.

GALLIGHAN’S VEGETABLE FEVER
AND AGUE PILLS,
A Certain and Lasting Cure for that Disease.
THE Subscriber, having been appointed Spe
cial Agent for the sale of Gallighan’s Fever
and Ague PILLS, is prepared to furnish Planters
and country traders with supplies of said articles on
terms equally as favorable as they can be obtained
of the proprietors.
Gallighan’s Pills, though useful for all diseases
which originate in a superabundant collection of
bile in,the stomach, are more particularly intended
for l ever and Ague. In the first they cleanse,
strengthen, and give tone to the stomach and bow
els, and create a new and healthy action throughout
the system. They produce a natural and perma
nentappetite. They defend the system against new
or subsequent attacks of the disease. They re
move all obstructions of the liver and other organs.
They assist the various operations of nature, by
cleansing the system of all vitiated, corrupt and
acrid humors, and thus invigorate and re-animate
the whole frame. Possessing a purgative quality,
they cannot remain in the bowels to produce such
other diseases as often follow the injudicious treat
ment of the Fever and Ague. They are composed
entirely of vegetable matter, and may be taken by
persons of both sexes and of all ages, without the
least danger of unpleasant consequences. In fine,
the public are assured that GallighaK.’ Fills possess
those inestimable virtues which are requisite not
only to arrest, but to eradicate and destroy, the last
seeds of this most distressing malady of the human
family.
1 The proprietors solemnly pledge themselves that
they do not contain a particle of minerals in any
; shape or form, but they are composed entirely of
■ simple vegetable substance, which, either separately
1 or combined, and without regard to sex or age, are
perfectly harmless in their effect upon the human
‘ system.
The following persons in this place have been ap
-1 pointed Sub-agents, at whose stores these Pills may
be obtained.
Thomas Richards, Book Store, No. 293, and T.

A large mass of highly respectable testimony

GARLEGANT’S BALSAM OF
HEALTH.
H / 1111 - * Hit- The a ' sove valuable BALSAM
OF HEALTH is now extensively
known and used in many cities and
towns in the States of Virginia, Ma
ryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New
34? >",• iHP-tinnil v or k, Kentucky, Missouri, and
1 South Carolina, and has performed
wonderful cures in Dyspepsia, Cho
kes, Nervous Tremors, Lowness of
Spirits, and Palpitation of the Heart;
it is also a sovereign remedy for all
kinds of worms, Ac.
It is not recommended, like most
patentmedieir.es, as a cure-all, but
he recommends it for what he has
fuu confidence it will and has cured, which he can
substantiate by the testimony of hundreds of per
sons that have experienced its salutary effects.
The proprietor has a great number of certificates
in his possession of cures performed by this valua
ble Medicine, which would fill several columns of
a newspaper, but has thought proper to give only a
few of the most prominent, which the reader will
find below this advertisement.
It is neatly put up in square half pint Betties, with
the name of the Medicine blown on the glass and
the proprietor's signature on tHe label pasted on the j
outside vyrapper of each bottle, to prevent it from
being counterfeited. Each bottle is accompanied j
with extensive directions for its use, which can at
all times be hud at one dollar per bottle, and by the
quantity at a liberal discount, at his Drug and Medi
cine Store, and of his agents in the above named
states.
Below are a few certificates of cures performed
by the above Balsom of Health.
John S. Miller.
Dear Sir; 1 had been troubled with a constant
sickness and pain in ray stomah, which also occa
sioned a tremor and weakness and pain across my
hack, for which I used a great deal of Medicine
without any relief. J was prevailed on by a friend
to try your Balsam of Health, which I procured
from our Agent, in Hagers Town, and, to my great
astonishment, before i had used the contents of one
bottle, was able to eat ray daily meals with as much
appetite and satisfaction as ever, and can now attend
to my daily work as much as ever I could before.
JOSEPH C. COXSON.
Washington County, February 10, 1835.
Abouttwoyears ago Iwasseverely afflicted with
Dyspepsia, which I had for the last fifteen years
previous to the above named time, which was very
much increased by my having a blood vessel ruptu
red upon ray lungs, occasioned by lifting—which
increased my complaint, Dyspepsia and general de
bility- and weakness, to such a degree, that two or
three y-ears previous to my using the Garlegant
Balsam, I never ate a meal but ray stomach became
so painful that 1 had immediately to throw it up.
Seeing Garlegant’s Balsam of Health advertised, I
was induced to try a bottle: after taking the very
first dose it appeared to strengthen my- stomach;
and every dose of the first bottle helped me so
much that in the course of a few days my stomach
began to retain and digest every thing I ate. I con
tinued to use the Balsam until I used seven bottles,
which cured me entirely, and restored me to perfect
health, which 1 have enjoyed ever since, and not
before for fifteen years. 1 cheerfully recommend it

Dear Sir—l have used the Balsam of health which
I procured from you, with great benefit. If not
with entire relief. When I procured it. 1 was sorely
afflicted with Dyspepsia, attendee by all its distres
sing symtoms, head ache, giddiness, heart burn and
the thousand nervous affections which accompany
it, in its worst stages. At times, such was the de
bility- occasioned, that I was bed ridden. I think I
can say- that the first relief, if not the entire cure,
was produced by the use of the Balsam.

In presenting this useful remedy to the Public, the Pro

perusal of those who may be troubled with similar com
plaints
Messrs. Moffat, Plummer Co.
Gentlemen —After having tried, by the recommendation
of my friends, almost every medicine for a cough, without
the least relief, I had recourse to your New England
Cough Syrup, and am enabled to say, with much thank
fulness, that it has cured me of one of the most obstinate
coughs I ever knew, and shall feel it to be a duty to re
commend it to every one whom 1 find in need of so valua
ble a medicine. Y'ours respectfully,
JOHN P. STEVENS >
Boston, Nov. 20, 1631.
I have the satisfaction and pleasure of informing you
that the bottle of New England Cough Syrup, which 1
procured of you on the 23d of April, has entirely relieved I
me from a very severe cough which had afflicted me for a
short time past. After using a variety of medicine, and
finding no permanent relief, I was induced by the advice
of my friends to try your Syrup. The result I hare already
stated; it succeeded beyond my expectation ; and I cheer
fully recommend it as a very valuable medicine for all
those who may be afflicted with similar complaints.
Y’ours respectfully, CHARLES RUGGLES.
Boston, May 1, 1835.
It gives me great pleasure to be able to add my testi
mony in favor of your New England Cough Syrup, two
bottles of which having entirely cured my cough which
was so severe that rny physician advised me to spend the
coming winter in a southern climate, but the fortunate use
of the Syrup will preclude the necessity.
Y'ours, <fec. JOSEPH BRADLEE
Boston, September 1, 1834.
The Proprietor would add, that he is constantly receiv- i
ing numerous testimonials of the value and efficacy of this
remedy.

TRIP PIUS COM TIN T HATED SARSA
PARILLA,
SNOR the cure of Scrofula, Mercurial, Syphilitic,
. and other diseases, which depend upon Scro
fulous Habit of Body, is prepared by a new process,
without, boiling, and is warranted to contain, in a
concentrated form, the active principles of tficroot,
obtained from ibe most approved species of smilax.
Its efficacy has been repeatedly tested in private
practice in the successful treatment of ihc worst
forms of the diseases, for the cure of which Sarsa
parilla is recommended, after other preparations of
that medicine, the Panacea, Ac., had been used
without effect. A number of cases of extensive ul
cerations, and affections of the bones, in simple
Scrofula, and in Jlc.rcUrial and SyphilitTe diseases,
have been permanently cured by its use in three
months, without any other treatment, except the
most simple applications to the parts diseased. A
trial of two or three bottles, in similar cases, will
prove the efficacy and importance of the preparation. I
It has been found particularly useful after ealo- I
mel, where that medicine has been given too freely ■
lin scrofulous habits, or in the curenf a certain dis- ■
ease. It is admirably calculated, in such cases, lo H
remove all disease from the body, and restore the I
usual vigour of the constitution; and may he taken H
with safety and advantage w hen the system is nier- H
curializcd. The use of one or two bottles, on ordi- H
nary occasions of the kind, will prove an effectual H
security against secondary diseases; and, in recent H
cases, will effect a perfect cure, after three or four
doses of calomel, of five or eight grains each, night |S|
and morning, have been taken, followed by salts, and
the usual local treatment.
