AUGUSTA MARKET, JUNE 23.
COTTON. —Since Thursday last, there has been
an active demand for Cotton in this market, caused
by several large orders, and the sales reach be
tween 25 0 and 3000 bales, at all prices, ranging
from 7to 91 cents. Yesterday morning, however,
accounts from Liverpool to the 21lh May were re
ceived by Express Mail, which, Vicing considered
rather unfavorable, gave a check to operations,
and all descriptions, except choice, were unsaleable,
unless at a reduction from former prices of from 4
to i cent per lb. Our stock begins to diminish, and
if the same spirit pervades our market, that we have
experienced for the past two weeks, our stock will
be reduced to about 30,000 bales on the Ist July
next. The receipts continue to be very light.
GROCERIES. —The business in the Grocery
line has been very limited for some time past. We
have no change to notice. Flour continues to be a
scarce article, and good Canal retails readily at sls
werbbl., while country Flour is selling at Si li asl2
perbbl. Butler also continues scarce, —none good
to he had—retailing at 374 cents per lb.
EXCHANGE —On the North not to he had in
this city at the present time. The last sale made
was on Providence at 5 per cent, premium. On
Charleston, the Bank of Augusta is checking at 4
per rent. prem. for its own hills.
FREIGHTS. —To Savannah, 50 cents per bale—
improving; to Charleston, none offering. Our river
’ has risen several feet since our last notice, and is
now in good steamboat condition.
LIVERPOOL, May 20.— Cotton.— Throughout
this week the prices of American Cotton have
been very irregular, being in many instances en
tirely regulated by the neccs.-ities of the sellers.
We reduce our quotations generally }d to id per
lb., but in good fair quality and upwards the de
cline is barely so much. At these rates the market
<•1 -sed with a continued gloomy appearance. Egyp
tian continues to be neglected, and prices nearly
nominal. In Brazil a decline of id per lb. has been
generally submitted to. Surat is heavy of sale,
and in some qualities has declined 4d per lb. Some
purchases of this description have been made for
shipment to Canton The sales amount to 17,860

(’ll ART.F.STON June 21.— Cotton. —The trans
j actions in the Upland Cotton market since our last,
j have been light; such sales, however, as have come
I to mir knowledge, have been effected at last week's
rates.
Rice. —There continues an active demand for
Rice. Sales have been made at from s2| to 21.
Some pan-els are held at S 3, but we have heard
of no this price.
NEAV ORLEANS, June 17.— Remarks. —The
same dull inanimate state of affairs still prevails;
there is no change for the belter, and we think
there will be none for the worse; things appear to be
at a stand, at which they will probably remain un
till the commencement of a new season. AA’e are
now at a season of the year when a suspension of
j business is usually looked for; but as the country
’ must he bare of many articles of Merchandize,
i there may be more of a regular trade through the
summer than usual; should that be the case, it w ill
have a tendency to relieve those engaged in a re
gular business: the sales now leaking in Produce,
and in Merchandize in general are on a very limited
scale, ami those for immediate wants; orders from
the interior are limited to necessary articles, and
those for small quantities, this will probably be the
rase throughout the summer, hut as the usual sup
plies have not been laid in, orders may he more
frequent, payments prompt, either in cash or pro
duce.
f There was 12 feet water in Ohio, from the latest
ccounts, and falling: this good stage of water may
ausc an additional supply of western produce to
•rive, but the quantity to come forward is thought
will not bo sufficient, to cause any reduction from
present prices, for we perceive that prices were
advancing in Cincinnati, and Louisville, that being
the ease, holders in that section of the country will
no doubt sell very sparingly. The weather has been
,-erv warm the last three days, but on Sunday
night, and -AL nday rain fell in abundance, and it
rarclv is more wanted than at that lime, for the heat
and dust had been excessive.
The rain and thunder showers caused the fore
part of the week to be very pleasant, and quite re
novating to our feelings.
Cotton. —The transactions which we hear of are
extremely limited, amounting to but 1448. hut it is
said exceed that, about 2000 bales, and from the
most accurate information to he obtained the sales
amount to between 3 and 4000 bales at prices rang
.og from 7to 13, and one crop of 93 bales Ixiuis
.toa at 14. There appears to be much secrecy
observed in transactions in this article for some
••me past, and it is currently reported that some ol
e banks have been purchasing, or making ad
-4 aces in order to facilitate shipments, this no
v ,ubt is the case from the total want of confidence.
f v.hviduals were prevented shipping in consc
ience of the (almost impossibility) difficulty >f
j’liing Exchange; the exports for the last two
yonths could not have been much larger had there
ten no embarrassments experienced in the way
jf business.
1 The exports amount to 531,438 bales, which
\ , 49,230 over that ot last season to the first of Oc
, tier.
i Flour. —There has been a decline in the price of
s article since our last weekly report, which, we
w quote at $94, and sales at those rates, the de
ad however is not brisk, and sales are priucipal
■onOned to city consumption.
m 'orn. —There has been some advance, and we
I v quote sales at 137a 1 50 per bushel; the ro
ll >ts have been small of late which is thelcause of
|| small advance, together with the stock on hand
ood quality becoming much reduced.
B ,( S . AVe quote at 87 a sl, and we hear of more
irst hands.
K 'reightf. —Both to Europe, and coastwise they
are dull. AVe quote to Liverpool for cotton, Id, but
. lew vessels are willing to take those rates, and they
I are daily refused.
BALTIMORE, JUNE 16.— Exchange. —There
have been no transactions in bills on England, con
sequently we are unable to give a quotation. The
rates on other places remain as before noted.
Howard-street Flour. —We have no change to re
port in prices. Retail sales are making from stores
at *9. AVagon price $8 a 8,25.
City Mills Flour.— A sale of 600 hbls. was made
yesterday for foreign export at $7,75. Holders to*
day generally ask $3. The stock on hand is quite
light, and is likely to become still more reduced
Irorri the circumstance that eight of the mills on
Jones' Falls have ceased work in consequence of
the injuries sustained by the dams, &c. during the
flood which swept that stream on Wednesday night.
Coni. —ln the early part of the week sales of
white were made at 88 a 90 cents, and of yellow at
90 a93 cents. Since then prices have advanced,
and we now report sales of white at 92 a 95 cents,
and of yellow at 97 a9B cents. Supplies small.
Provisions. —Beefand I’ork have declined a little.
Sales of Mess Beef at $15,50 per bill.; of No. 1 do.
at sl3; of Mess Pork at sl3; No. 1 do. sl7; prime
$15,50, and cargo at sl4. AVestern Bacon has im
proved in price. During the week sales to a con
! siderable extent were made of ordinary lots atß4 a
84 els. and of prime parcels at 84 a 9 cents. These
purchases are designed chiefly for Southern mar
kets, and have much reduced the stocks. AVe also
note sales of Baltimore cured Hams at 124 cents;
of Sides at 10; and of Shoulders at 9 cents. Lard
is held at 8a 10 cents, according To quality. The
inspections of the week comprise 354 bbls. Beef; 6
1 kegs Butter; and 3 kegs Lard.
1 Whiskey. —The market continues very dull.—
We quote hhds. in small lots at 35 cents, and occa
r sionally sales oflarger lots at a little less. We quote
the store price of bills, at 36 cants. The wagon
’ price is 30 cents. The inspections of the week
■ comprise 179 hhds. and 938 bbls.; of which 165
1 hhds and 490 bbls. were from the Susquehanna.

BiiANL) RETH’S
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
Price of single Bin, 50 cts.—Price of double Box, 8L
ESTABLISHED IN ENGLAND 1751,
And nearly T IV O MILLIONS of Boxes sold, in
the United Stales, since May, 1833.
“Science shou’d contribute to the Comfort, Health, and
Happiness of mankind.”
ON the eighteenth of May, 1835, these now truly
celebrated PILLS were first made known in
the United States, although in Europe they had
been previously before the public nearly a century.
The American public naturally viewed them with
suspicion, bur as on trial they were found what
they professed, it was soon displaced by the great
est confidence. They have secured this character,
too, under very adverse circumstances, having to
contend with the base slanders promulgated by
those interested in keeping mankind in a stale of
error as regards the functions of their bodies. Dr.
Brandreth would here impress on this friends, and
the public generally, that however different may
be the action of the Pills at different times, that
such different action arises not from any alteration
in the Pills, but from the state of the body ; they
should therefore be persevered in until the action
is uniform ; for they are an effectual assistant of
nature, having the same kind of action on the hu
man body that storms and hurricanes have upon
air, or that trie tides have upon the ocean; they
purify. W hat so judicious as the copying of na
ture ! M e see, when she wishes to become puri
fied, that she puts herself in commotion, which has
the purifying effect. And so we, to induce purity
in our bodies, bring about a natural commotion by
artificial means, and experience has taught those
who have adopted this course, and who for this pur
pose have used these Pills, that they were in the
right, because the result has been sound health, or
in other words, every organ has become restored
to a state of purity consistent with its functions;
and although there are many whose bodies are in
such a state of debility and suffering, that all which
can reasonably be expected is temporary relief:
nevertheless, many persons who have commenced
with them under the most trying circumstances of
hodily affliction, when every other means and me
dicine have proved altogether unavailing, have
been restored to health and happiness from their
use, and the consequence is, they are now recom
mended by thousands of persons whom they have
cured of Consumption, Influenza, Colds, Indiges
tion, Dyspepsia, Head Ache, and a sense of ful
ness in Hie back part of the Head, usually the symp
toms of Apoplexy-, Jaundice, Fever and Ague, Bili
ous, Scarlet, Typhus, \ ellow, and common Fevers
ol all kinds ; Asthma, Gout, Rheumatism, Nervous
Diseases, Liver Complaint, Pleurisy, Inward Weak
ness, Depression of the Spirits, Ruptures, Inflam
mation, Sore Kyes, Fits, Palsy-,Dropsy, Small Pox,
Measles, Croup, Coughs, M hooping Cough, Quin
sey, Cholic, Cholera Morbus, Gravel, Worms, Dys
entery, Deafness, Ringing Noises in the Head,
king’s Evil, Scrofula, Ery-sipelas or St. Anthony’s
fife, Salt Rheum, White Swellings, Ulcers, some
ol 30 years standing, Cancers, Tumors, Swelled
keet and Legs, Piles, Costiveness, all Eruptions of
the Skin, frightful Dreams, Female complaints of
e very- kind, especially obstructions, relaxations, A- c.
14,000 IEBJIMONIALS have been received
from individuals of the highest respectability-, who
have been cured by the use of these Pills since
their introduction into the United States.
Although Dr. B. has enumerated by name the
above diseases, lie is nevertheless of opinion with
his grandfather, the late celebrated Dr. William
Brandreth, that as there is only- ONE principle of
DISEASE, which is an impurity of the Blood, which
by impeding the circulation, brings on inllamma
tion, and consequent derangement in the organ, or
part where such impurity of the blood settles; and
that it is the different appearances which this in
flammation or derangement put on, that have cans
ed medical men to designate such appearances by
various names, but. which are in feet, only the same
disease, with more or Jess virulence. Dr. William
Brandreth was so fully convinced of the truth of
tlie atioy e simple theory, that he spent 30 years in
experiment and laborious research into the medi
cinal properties of the numerous plants composing
the V egetable Kingdom ; his object being no com
pose a medicine which should atonce purify- and
remove by purgation all bad humors from the blood
by the stomach and bowels, as bv the continuation
ol the use ol such a medicine, such humors are
sure to be carried off, and the blood necessarily as
sume a state ol purity; and whoever lakes these
Pills, and perseveres with them, will be satisfied
that Dr. William Brandreth fully attained his phi
lanthropic object. It is now an absolute and known
tact, that every disease, whether it be in the head
or loot, in the brain or meanest member; vvlie
ther it be an outward nicer, or an inward abscess,
are all, though arising from many causes, reducible
to this one grand effect, namely, impurity of blood
In many cases where the dreadful ravages of ul
ceration Lad laid bare ligament and bone, and
w here to all appearance no human means could
save life, have patients by the use of these Pills,
been restored to good health ; the devouring dis
ease having been completely eradicated.
Inconsequence of tlie pleasan ness of their ope
ration, and the dose not generally being required to
be more than four or five Pills, (merely keeping in
view the drain upon the humors.) they are fast su
perseding every other preparation of similarimport.
Cases may occur where it will he very proper io take
twenty or even thirty or more Pills; this must, how
ever, be considered with reference only to highly
inflammatory appearances, or when great pain is
experienced.
As Brandreth’s Pdls prevent Scurvy, Costiveness
and its consequences, seafaring men, and all travel
lers to foreign regions, should not be without them,
in order to resort to on every occasion of illness.
N. B.—Time or climate affects them not.
