The bill was not passed until late Saturday evening.
It will he taken tip in the Fe-.i te to-day, end proba
bly passed,as the wants of the public c reilitors are
said to be pressing. The Representatives will not
m l again until ’i’hursday, and the upper House
wid tulj jrirtj over to Friday. fler the bill niciiliomd
has p >s 'd.
1 will visit Baltimore to-morrow, on which clay
our Convention meets. During the last week, 1
have seen delegates from nearly every part of the
country, ami have no cause to be dissatisfied with
the correct ties* of my statements regarding the next
Vice Presidency, although a d p rat -effort will be
made against the present incumbent, who has pre
pared a very excellent and patriotic letter to the
members, in which he expresses his willingness to
withdraw', should that course be thought expedient.
A few, facts however, will show, that ifu nomination
he made, (and the fri nds of lit * other candidates,
save Col. Folk’s, are in favor of one) Col. Johnson
must receive it from the number of delegates in his
favor. He now has New Hampshire, Pennsylvania,
Maryland, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri and
Arkansas, u majority of the Slates represented,
pledged for him, or rather instructed. The course
of the New York delegation will be to gather pre
vailing opinions in order to secure strength to Mr.
Van Buren; but a majority are known to be in favor
of Col.J. Mr. Forsyth’s support will probably con
sist of Georgia, Rhode Island, Maine and Vermont.
