All descriptions of turning and fitting done in the best
manner, and patterns made to order for any castings re
quired, at short notice.
The Company would say, they intend furnishing work
equal in quality and appearance to any furnished in the
northern states, and on more reasonable terms than they
•can be procured anywhere else. They are, also, now
making exertions to manufacture Bar Iron, which will be

Jeremiah Perry. £ mortgage.
IT APPEARING to the Court, upon the reading and
filing of the petition of Henry Scott, that Jeremiah
Berry, heretofore, to wit; on the first day of February,
eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, made and executed to
said Henry Scott, his certain mortgage; deed to a certain
tract or parcel of land lying iu Warren county on the
north side of Middle creek; containing two hundred and
fifty acres, more or less, adjoining lands of Daniel Dennis, j
Gazaway Duckworth, Sarah Wilder, and Samuel Gusliug, j
for the purpose of better securing the payment of a certain :
promissory note made by said Perry, bearing even date !
with said mortgage, and for two hundred and forty-two
dollars, and thirty-seven and a half cents—and it further j
being represented that the said note yet remains unpaid i
principal, and interest. It is, therefore, on motion of Pier- 1
son Pettit, attorney for the mortgager, ordered by the !
Court, that the said Jeremiah Perry, pay into Court on the
first day of the next Term thereof,the amount due on said j
note, both principal, and interest; and also, the cost of this ,
proceeding, or shew cause why the said mortgage deed |
should not be foreclosed, and his equity of redemption, to J
and in said premises he forever barred—and that this Rule
be published in one of the public gazettes of this State,
once a month for four months, or be served upon the said
Jeremiah Perry, or his attorney, at least three months pre- I
vions to the next Term of this Court.

Sealed proposals will be received at the Clerk s olbce
of the Inferior Court of Warren County, Georgia, until
the first Monday in July next, for the building a Jail.
To be built of good solid cut rock, 21 feet square, the
wall two feet thick, two story high, the rock a loot square, i
two to four feet long or longer, laid in lime, the outside
faced, all well fitted together and doweled at the corners of |
the building with good iron pins, three inches long, inch j
thick The lower story is to be divided into two rooms I
by two walls, making the rooms 14 feet long, 9 feet wide |
each, well plastered inside, leaving a space between the
outer wall and the doors to the cells, or two lower rooms,
in which the stairs is to ascend to the second story, good
andSjibstantial doors, the floor of the two lower rooms or
ce be laid with good square solid rock—eight feet be- i
tween the floors; the upper floor to be laid with good solid
heart-timber a foot square, and cross laid with two inch
heart plank well spiked down, and over-head in the upper
room, to be laid with good hart timber a foot square, and
sealed underneath with good thick plank. The roofto be of
good strong heart timber, shingled witli good heart shin
gles, well pitched over, two windows to each ceil or lower
room, and two to tlie upper or larger room, well secured
with iron bars, good and substantial locks to the doors.
The undertaker to give Baud witli good securities for the
faithful performance of the work.
The Justices of the Court will superintend and inspect
the work, reserving the right of making any alterations
that might bethought necessary by them or the undertaker.
When one third of the work is done and approved, one
third of the contract money will be paid, when two-thirds
done one third more of the contract money will be paid,
and when the whole of the work iscompleted and received
bj : the Justices of the Court, the last payment will be paid.

dant, unless they have near friends, in the place, or in spe
cial cases obtain the consent of the superintendent.

MADISON SPRMffiS.
THE MADISON SPRINGS has change I owners, and
the present proprietor of this fashionable watering
place, who isnow fitting them up in a superior style, will
be able to accommodate about 300 persons, in a manner
which he hopes will entitle him to the future patronage of
his visiters. The old buildings are undergoing a thorough
repair, and new ones being put up—the roads loading to the
springs will be made safe and pleasant for carriages—new
avenues are opened, and various other improvements are
in progress, which will add much to the comforts and
amusement of visiters.
Arrangements have been made with Mr. H. N. Wilson,
i to put a superior line of coaches between Athens and the
Springs, so that with the present arrangements of the Geor
gia Rail Road the time of travelling from Augusta to the
Springs will not exceed 20 hours.
They will be opened on the Ist of June, for the reception \
of visiters, and the following moderate scale of charges I
observed: Board, by the month, s2.a; children ami servants 1

The present flourishing trade, and the growing impor
tance of Hamburg in a commercial point of view, fully
I authorize the establishment of such a newspaper as the
! publiehers design to make of the Journal. No place of
| the same population in the union, and certainly none
I where so large an amount of business is transacted, is
i without such a vehicle of trade and intelligence. Every
i effort will be made to render the Journal entirely accep
' table tothe liberal and enterprising community, for whose
patronage it presens itself. Political facts will be sriven
j tothe public as matter of news; but political speculations,
i with their train of sophistry, misrepresentation, slander
j and abuse, will be carefully excluded from our col
umns. Particular attention will be given to the state of
: the markets at home and abroad; aud we shall furnish re
; gularly corrected lists of the prices current at Hamburg,
i Augusta and Coarleston, as well as copious extracts from
the trade lists of the northern cities. Our extensive mail
facilities will give us intelligence from every part of the
union at the latest possible dates; and the means they will
also afford us of transmitting our paper speedily to every
post office throughout the south and south-west, will make
the Journal useful and valuable to the business men of
these sections of our country, and we shall look, with con
i fidence, for patronage at their hands. We shall endeavor
( to find a place in ourcolumns for everything of interest to
the business classes of the people and the community
; generally; and, in short, no expense or labor shall be
i spared to reader the Journal a truly valuable paper, and
in every way worthy of the favor aud support we now
i solicit for it.
Terms. Super annum in advance. The Journal will
be printed twice a week, with good type, on beautiful
white paper of an extra-imperial size. '
