in the foregoing cases, uatiltho.se cases became so numer

,)J-e th m ten years’ experience of thfflr use in ra uiy of
(he varieties of the chronic, and some of the more violent !
nciito febrile diseases, that he became convinced, as he
‘' v that they possess greater merit in all cases roqui
ring either mild or v.gorons action on the bowels, than any
other known remedy. As an alterative or mild aperient, i
they answer most effectively - , the indication stated by Dr.
.1 1 nes Johnson in bis admirable work on the morbid irri- ,
bibiv of the stomach and bowels, producing usn illy “ but :
one evacuation daily, and that of a solid, rather than a li
naid consistence.” 'Nor is it difficult to account for their ,
mod its operandi. Mere evacuants operate by sti. mil Ring ;
the micoiis inembrjm® of the stomach and bowels, wiiliont !
nT-' tiiig the organs essential to lie ilthy digestion, and al- 1
though they procure temporary relief, the diseased secre
tions grow worse instead of better. These pills combine !
Ihe most gentle action upon the mucous coat with an efU- !
< ient and he ilthy influence upon the liver and other organs
of the digestive apparatus, and consequently operate in j
the mildest manner, and not only give present relief, but j
when steadily persevered in, a permanent cure.
Nor are they less efficient in fever and other acute dis
eases requiring active purgation, by increasing the dose i
ns directed, ’causing the double operation of more vigorous i
action on the bowels, and proportion.alily stimulating the •
liver and other organs to more healthy secretions, justify- I
ing the. confident opinion, not only entertained by the in- |
veutor, hut by many who have used them, that they ap- j
pro icli more nearly to the character of a universal remedy i
in the cases indicated, than any other known medicine. j
It is not deemed necessary to specify the various disor- !
ders for the relief of which they arc applicable, but the
following are enumerated as some of them: dyspepsia, ‘
sick head acV, liver complaint, asthma, habitual or casual ■
ro<tivenes.s, diarrhoea, heart-burn, cholic,tour stomach, bil- ;
ions fever, female obstructions, &c. &.c. In short, in every
disease requiring action on the bowels. Nor is it the •
smallest recommendation, that in dyspepsia, liver coin- |
plaints, and other chronic diseases, a single pill is, gene- '
rally, a sufficient dose. They are peculiarly adapted to I
the condition of all persons of sedentary habits, either ;
male or fern ile, who, with scarcely a solitary exception,
suffer from a sluggish state of the bowels. They are also
recommended as particularly convenient to the traveller
in warm climates, or seasons, and for the us" of large fumi
,inS, the dose being so easily adjusted, especially when re
si ling at a distance from the exoericnced physician.
The inventer asks his o vu follow citizens to give the
pills a fair trial, pledging himself, if they will do so, that
they will not fail to obtain the confidence and preference
of ninety-nine out of a hundred, or nine hundred and
ninety-nine out of a thousand. As an alterative, or mild
aperient, for correcting habitual or casual torpidity of the
bowels, one pill taken at bed time is the properdose, with
out the necessity of changing ordinary habits of living. —
If one should fail to pro luce the desired effect, it is better
to repeat it for two or three successive nights than to aid
its operation by taking any tiling else.
For bilious fever or other acute disease requiring active
purgation, one pill repeated every hour or two, until the
desired effect is produced, is the best mode of administer
ing them.
The subjoined certificates sufficiently attest the efficacy 1
of these pills.
CERTIFICATES.
Sparta, loth June, 18311. I
I certify that I have used Dr. C. E. Haynes’ A nti-Dys- j
peptic Piils for more than two years, and pronounce them
to be the best remedy that 1 ever yet tried for dyspepsia
and asthma. 1 have tried Callaghan's, Beckwith's, Bran
dreth’s and Peters’ Pills, without success. I have also
found Haynes’Pills to be an excellent remedy for inter
mittent and bilious fever, in early stages

Dr. C. E. Tfuyncs: Dear Sir—My attention was direct
ed to your pills a little more than a vear since, by Colonel
Shivers. Since that time, I have frequently taken them
mvself, and given them to my family, with the most happy
results.
With me they have removed costiveness, checked elfec
tuallv diarrhoea, and taken off bile as fully as calomel,
without producing the unpleasant effect that is usually
produced by that valuable medicine. I therefore believe
i bc:n a valuable medicine, and would recommend a trial of j
them, at least. Respectfully, R. S. HARDWICK.
Milledgeville, 17t!i June, 1839.
1 am pleased with the opportunity of adding my testi
mony to the value of Dr. Haynes’ Anti-Dyspeptic Pills.
I have used them occasionally for more than a year past,
in ordinary diseases of the stomach and bowels, with the -
happiest effects; and recently, in a sharp intermittent hil- 1
ions fever, which was entirely eradicated by them in three i
or four days, without the aid of any other medicine; and
cheerfully recommend them as admirably adapted to the ,
cure of dyspeptic and bilious diseases.
Wsl. McMURRAY.
Having been recently attacked with strong bilious symp
toms, 1 used Dr. Haynes’ Pills with the happiest effect,
which entirely relieved me, and which I do not hesitate to
recommend as a valuable medicine.

Dr. C. E. Haynes: Sir—For several years past, I have
been afflicted with obstinate costiveness of the bowels, of
ten going from six to ton days without any discharge from
them. For several months, I used Dr. Peters’ pills, and
found them useful to me. Early last spring, I was induced
to try your Anti-Dyspeptic Pills, which I have continued
to use as occasion required, and hav a derived more benefit
from them than from any medicine I have ever taken.
The operation is more easy, and the effect more perma
nent than from any other medicine I have heretofore used,

Dr. C. E. Haynes—lt affords me pleasure to state, that I

Dear Sir—l have used in my practice some of your al
terative Auti-Dyspeptic Pills, and have uniformly found
benefit to my patients from their administration. 1 can,
therefore, cheerfully recommend them to the afflicted, as a

from them. She then commenced taking Dr. C. E. Haynes’
Anti-Dyspeptic Pills, about the fall of 1836, which relieved
her entirely in the course of a few months.

Sparta, July 16, 183.9.
Dr. Haynes—l have been selling Peters’ pills for the last
three years, and during the time have occasionally taken
them myself. (I believe them to be a good medicine.)
Some twelve or fifteen days past, I had strong symptoms
of bilious fever. 1 took some of Peters’ pills, and not re
ceiving any benefit from them, t procured a box of youi
pills, and am happy to say that they in a few days removed
.u! symptoms of approaching sickness. I conceive them
to be an invaluable medicine. Yours, with respect,

Anti-Dyspeptic and Anti-Bilious Pills; but tiie numerous
testimonials which you htve received from respectable
ami intelligent citizens, of their value in the cure of dis
i eases for which they were intended, will, I think, justify

; only excepted.
In the spring of 1329, after having been afflicted from

burn, and occasional severe attacks of cramp chol’.c, I was
induced, at your instance, to u.-» a pill which vou had pre

not taken tnem a week, before their good effects were so
i apparent as to induce their continuance, and at the end of
a month I found my system greatly relieved, and by their
occasional use, for a few months, was restored to an excel
lent state of health, which I have ever since enjoyed in a
; very high degree.
I ante used them with great effect in my own family-, I-f

Dr. Charles L. Haynes—\bout ten or twelve months
; slilce ) I was induced by your brother to in ike a trial of
your Anti-Dyspeptic and Anti-Bilious Pilis, in a severe
bilious attack, and found them most efficient in removing !
I the disease.
I have used them with great success in several similar
attacks since, as well as for cholic and disorders of the
stomach and bowels.
I -ley have also been .administered to several members ,
of my family, with like results, and particularly in « case of
bilious f ever, in the early part of the present season.
y rom the very fair trial which 1 hare made of these |

1 k 3 TEETHING. —To Mothers and Nurses.—The pas- i
sage of the teeth through the gums produces troublesome ;
and dangerous symptoms. It is known by mothers that
there is a great irritation in the mouth and gums during \
this process. The gums swell, the secretion of the saliva
is increased, the child seized with frequent and sudden
fits of crying, watching, starting in its sleep, and spasms
of peculiar parts; the child shrieks with extreme violence,
and thrusts its fingers into its mouth. Iftlieso precursory
j symptoms are not speedily alleviated, spasmodic convui
sions universally supervene, and soon cause the dissnlu
j tiou of the infant. If mothers who have their little babes
I afflicted with these distressing symptoms would apply the
j celebrated American Southing Syrup, which has preserved
J hundreds of infinite when thought past recovery from be
i ing suddenly attacked with that, fatal malady, convulsions
This infallible remedy has preserved hundreds when
j thought past recovery, from convulsions. As soon as the
| Syrup is rubbed on the gums, the child will recover. This
I preparation is so innocent, so efficacious, and so pleasant,
that no child wiil refuse to let its gums he rubbed with it.
When infants are in the age of four mouths, though there
■ is no appearance of teeth, one bottle of the syrup should
| he used on the gums to opon the pores. Parents should
| never he without the syrup in the nursery where there are
1 young children, for if a child wakes in the night with pain
|in the gums, the Syrup immediately gives ease, by opening
the pores and healing the gums; thereby preventing Con
vulsions, Fevers, Ac.
A gentleman who has made trial of the celebrated
SoothingS.vrup in his family, (in case of a teething child)
wishes us to state that lie found it entirely effectual in re
lievingp iin in th«* gn:ns, mid preventing the consequences
which sometimesfoilo* . We cheerfully comply with his
; request.—Sun.
jj J \Ve believe it is generally acknowledged by those
] who have tried it, that the Soothing Syrup for Children
: Cutting Teeth, advertised in another column, is a highly
| useful article for the purposes for which it is intended.

This medicine, I warrant by this publication, under a
penalty of $5,000, not to contain one particle of corrosive
preparation. It is purely vegetable in its essences. Its first
and prominent virtue is to subdue every vestige of inflam
mation, and then acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic'
I thereby holding within itself every requisite virtue for
the subdnotion of this loathsome malady-—and evervregu-.
| lur graduate in medicine, will sustain the assertion, that
copious diuresis and reduction of inflation; are the onlv
two things necessary to effect a sound and radical cure.
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cino Jours,” is in this,
that wherever it alone has been used to affect a cure, none
of those tenacious and disagreeable consequences’which
almost invariably results from the sudden cure of Gonor
