There was never but one steamer on the
Rio Grande, we believe, before the “armv of
occupation ’ arrived on its bunks, and that
vra-owned by one of the Texas Austins, as
fare back as 1827. The boat carried on a very
brisk trade as hioh up the river as Comargo,
in hides, tallow, bones, ect.; but the Ranclie
jo muleteers, who had the commerce of the
country in their own hands, complained
to the Government in Mexico, and Austin’s
boat was ordered off and ever after prohibit
ed entering the Kio Grande.

DCr 3 It is impossible for us to com
press into our narrow limits even a Grief allusion to
all of the numerous cures that have been affected
by Dr. Wistar’s Balsam. We can only refer to-a
very few as specimens of its general efficacy.
A few days ago, a lady called at the office in
fine health, and looking as robust as though she
never knew what sickness was. To our surprise,
she slated that until recently, she had been sick for
between three and four years with wiiat was sup
posed to be Consumption—that she had a violent
rough, night sweats, with alternate chills and fe
vor, and every usual symptom of confirmed Con
sumplion. The result was, that she became so
emaciated as to present more tbe appearance of a
skeleton than a living being. Providentially, she,
at this time, heard of the wonderful cures per
formed by DR. VVISTAR’S B VLSAM OF WILD
CHERRY, and commenced using it herself. The
effect was, that she began to get belter at once. —
By degrees, the cough left her, the chills and fever
disappeared, and in two months she again found
herself in perfect health.
