Dror Sir: —You may pub!i>!» this letter, or make
nu b use of it as you think best. A year ago last
fall, 1 was taken sick with a severe rough, was
very much pressed for breath, lost my appetite, and
became very much reduced in my general health,
sweat profusely, and could not sleep nights. I ap
plied to a physician, who ilorv* a!! in bis power to
relieve and restore me, but did not succeed. I was
confined to the house most of the winter, often had
long spells of severe coughing; raised some blood.
Sometime in the spring I commenced taking WIS
TAII'S BALSAM OF WILD CHERRY. Be
fore I had finished one bottle I was relieved : my
cough removed; my sleep restored; I bled no mure.
I have taken four bottles the past season. My
strength and general health is now good. 1 attri

CH VRLIvSTON, AUGUST \b.—Cu!tim.— We.
stated in our rop »rt of ihe Bih instant Rial prices at
ihe close of Hie week hid occasionally liuctnaied in
favor *»4 the pnr< baser; but us there were circum
stances connected with the majority o these trans
actions which were not made public at the lime,
we added that they con a] not he given as a fair in
dex of the existing slate ot things, as holders gen
erally were deni mding full rates; and the position
which tic* market has maintained since that pe
riod, has fully confirmed the opinion then ad
vanced. The demand for the article during the
week, has been limited it is true, owing to the
want of shipping facilities, hut bolt ers have ex
hibited a goo I deal of firmness, and the quotations
given in our previous report have been well main
tained. and in the-face of the somewhat unfavora
ble advices brought out by the Great Western, our
prices will shew the value of the article at the
close of business yesterday. The operations since
our last reach IfiOi) bales against the receipt in the
same time of 1655 hates. The sales are, as follows,
viz;—l6 hales at Cl; 3i) at 7; 2b at 7]; 126 at 74;
26 Jat 7i; 3 1 at 7 7-16; 322 a; 71; 10«> at 7i; 57at
71: II at 7 13-16; 25 at 74; 143ai81; 12at8i;and
273 hales at 84c. per pound.
Hire. —We have nodi mge to notice in the Rice
market. An effort was made towards the close of
the week, to put u i prices, consequent upon the
advices received from the other side of the Atlantic,
in relation to the Potato crop, hut without success.
The sales reach almost the entire receipts of the
week, at price ranging from 2i to $3 3-16 per hun
dred. Received I 147 tierces.
Flour. —’The transactions in Flour continue very
light, and confined to small lots Baltimore at 4,75
to $5.00, and V irginia a14,75 to *5,75.
Huron. —The market since our la-t has been rath
er qm I,and we think on the w hole.rather dull,
for bolli Shoulders and Sides. Small lois of the
former have changed hands, at prices ranging from

Whiskey, at 21 to 25c.

ut auction of 50 hhds., Cuba Molasses, at prices

/fug" nip. —'There has been some little inquiry
for Bagging during the week, and Gunny lias
brought I7i; Kentucky from I I to 12*; and an ex
tra article of Western on terms not made public.
Freights. — It will be seen on reference to our list
of shipping, that there are but two vessels loading
for ports in Europe, one of which has a full cargo
engaged for Liverpool at Id. for round bags and tlie
other we believe is filling up with Faddy. 'The N.
York packets are filling up gradually at 25c. for
cotton. We quote to Boston, cotton *c.; very little
offering.

1,819 bales I plant!, leaving a stock on hand and
on shipboard not cl-ared, of 6,912 nales Upiano,
against 2,51 I bales Upland, at same time la^tyear.
We have no change to notice in the market since
our last report. The sales made have been princi
pally for New York, at steady prices. Yesterday
we received tlie first bale of new cotton, and no
one being disposed to pay 10c. per lb., the price
asked for it, it was immediately shipped to ew
York. 'The sales of the week amount to 265 bales

PROSPECTS OF PEACE.
W e received last night a confirmation of
the rumor that the President had proposed
to open negotiations and conclude a treaty !
