a quiet day, as the stringency of term- cheeked ilie
ardor of hnyerp, iiiid the sales m p confined to 300

by some activity, as hollers would now and then
let themselves down a little from the high position
which they had endeavored to assume, and fully

the former and 733 on the latter— at about the rat -s
paid on Wednesday, and the market closed at 1 to

il is, perhaps, prop r here to add that a large por
tion of the business of the week has been confined
to local speculation. The market was unsettled at
the close of the week; the following quotations,
however, will approximate as near as possible to
the actual slate of affairs, viz: Inferior add ordi

SAVANNAH, Sept. 25— Remarks —The ac
counts from the I pland crop of this State, still
continue very contradictory. In some counties it
i- represented to he very fine, with the. pr-ani-e of
an abundant yield, while in others the Caterpillar
is said to have been very destructive, and only’
about half an average is expected We are in
clined to think, however, that it "ill turn out
much better than that last season. From the Sea
1-land region, the reports are slid very discourag
ing. Th*- most sanguine now consider that half
the ii-iial crop will he a large yield, while many
very intelligent and observant persons put it d >vvn
us low as one-fourth.

The market was quiet during the early part of
the week, with some little disposition on the part
of holders to press sales. The accounts per steam
er Cambria, at Boston, from Liverpool to the 4ih
and Havre to the !-t inst., were received on Tues
day evening. The Liverpool market had improved
i to *d. per lb., with large sales, in consequence of
news from this country of the backwardnes|_ nl

in quotations. This news gav** holders confidence
and thev have sue eedeil i i obtaining a ic. per If).,
more than they could get belore i's receipt. Jh
stuck on sale is very small, and the receipts, both
of old and new crop, continue very light. The re

are still too limit; <1 and irregular to admit of accu

diseases originating from a depraved or Impure
state of the ISlood or other fluids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative would most re
spectfully assure the public that he has not offered
tins preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after
twelve years' experience had manifested it® great
superiority over every other article of the kind. —
and he now recommends it with confidence, fully
be'ieving that the above combination of medicine
wi:i » fiectually eradicate from the •ystein a class
of disease some of u hie it have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed if in almost every variety of
disease .md with unparalleled success, especially*
in cutaneous affection®. cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors. —Tie has used
this preparation in upwards of twenty we I defined
cases of cancer and cancerous tumors, and in every
case bur one with ■ erfect and entire success.
Branchvcrle cr Goitre. (Swelled .Neck) —He lias
prescribed it in over a hundred cases of goitre, and
it has never failed in a single instance to complete
ly remove the disease. Not a solitary case of fail
ure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in euripp brancho
eele and cancerous atlections h inced him
that these dangerous and horribleTnseas. s may he
removed with as much certainty ns fever and
Ague. lie does not wish to he understood as say
ing that they can he cured ns stinn as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that
he has good reason for believing that this prepara
, non will not only < ure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the y irtts or poisonous principle
■ lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class ofdiseases. as well as that of scrofula emanate.
Scrofula — King’s Evil —This preparation has
! hc ( n used in numerous cases of scrofula, king’s evil,
and serofnlous swellings, and always with the most
i (Jefi ed success.
SJxin Discuses. —Tie has prescribed it in a great
I variety of cutaneous affections, and found il sue
-1 fif] in curing salt rheum, or tetter, hiles,
) blotches, pimples.morphew and jaundiced skin. A* ■.
1 D'lspcpsia and Liver Complaint. — It has been
I used in numerous cases of liver complaint and Dys
i pepsia. and with the happiest effect.
Tic-Donloureux ■ —It has been used in several
\ eases of Neuralgia, wild in evgrv case it was suc
i cessful.
Rheumatism. —This preparation has been pre
' scribed in a great many cases of ehr mic rheurna-
I ism. and in every case in which it was used until the
I system became affected by the ra dn ine, the dis
ease was removed.
Gout. A number of cases of gout have been
cured by this preparation. Ju one of tlmse cast s,
the man had been afflicted with it so severely for
thirteen years as to entirely disable him from bnsi
i ness, and for five months immediately previous to
1 his taking the Alterative lie had been confined to
1 his room; hut before he had finished the third bofle,
j he was enabled to walk about the streets and soon
j after returned t<> his busine s, from which he had
so long been excluded by his afflictions.
Dropsical Swellings —This medicine increases
| the powers of digestion, excites the absorbent* into
1 healthy exercise, by which watery or calcareous
i depositions, and all unnatural enlargements are re
; duced. It imparts tone and vitality to the whole
j system, removing ®ick in i morbhi headaches, gid
! diness. wandering pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every c tse where the medicine has
j been taken for some time, no matter for wh t pur
i pose, the general health of the patient has always
I been improved ny it.
| In conclusion, the proprietor would say that some
; of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer. bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
this medicine, that have ever been recorded; hut
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
CANCER.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative.
j In the spring of 1331, a cancerous tumor appear
i ed in the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Pete*
j Stretch, o?Salem. N. J, It was examined by man?
j Physicians, and was considered by ail as cancerous,
i and besides bore a 1 the characteristic marks of
| one. Aii pro able, means of removing it were u-ed
j without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
i crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
| abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
! Physicians, was performed, Jan. dst, 1833, by Dr.
j John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
j proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
j ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
• all present a cancer of th- most malignant charac
| ter. In about three months, after end tiring incrcdi
| hie sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
I spirit, to get ahoat again. >he remained feeble,
! and her genera! health was exceedingly bad, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
l spring of 1837. upwards of five years after her bi east
; had been removed, a painful tumor made its ap
i pearance on the right side immediately over the
j part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
| breast, previous to its removal. This tumor steadi
; !y increased for several months, and became so
I painful as to deprived hern: re-t. The glands nn
! der site right arm were enlarged; and scirrhus, and
j a hard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
! peared in the left breast. No operation could now
; arrest the disease Indeed her whole body appear
!edto be a mass’-of disease. Her case was consid*
i ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
■ both her parents having died of Pulmonary con
| sumption. The experiment was now made with
1 this Alterative, it was at first given in small
| doses, three times a day, and the doses very gradu
ally, hut steadily increased daily, as long as she
took it, which was about six months, and the skin
over and around the tumour was wet night and
morning with a strong solution of lodine, and Hy
driodate Potash. The tumour continued increas
ing in size for about six weeks, and was at times
very painful, when the pain suddenly ceased alto
gether, and the tumour swelled out at the base, and
became soft and then began to diminish, and cun
tinned gradually decreasing until every restive of
disease was removed. The tumour in h:-r left
breast, and those in her right axilla were also dis
-1 parsed. No cancerous or scrofulous tumours ever
appeared afterwards; and her general health, which
1 had h< en so bad for fourteen years as to make life a
j burthen, was effec ually and permanently restored,
i The proprietor is in possession of the disease j
: breast, and those who choose may examine r. He
; would also say that he could mention a dozen
i cases equally interesting, where,„ [,j 3 Alterative
j has subdued cancer an. l cancerous tumours, but he
1 has not room hereto reco.d them.
t Mrs. Sarah *oung. of Quinton’s Bridge, N. J.,
j had a go’arous tumour on the left side of her vvind
-1 pm”, a® large a« the half of an o range, which was
- cured by using this Alterative for about four
j months.
Ali-s R S . South Fourth-street, Phila-
I delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
j throat, which filled the entire spnee between tlie
(inn and breast-bone, and extended around on
each side of her neck to behind her ears, and from
her ears to her shoulders, and produced awful de
formity. It commenced growing when she was
but five years old. and continued gradually to in
crease until she was nineteen, at which time she
comm-need tisir.g this Alterative, w hich she took
for seven month®, which entirely redneed the en
largement; and she lias now a- smooth arid pretty
a neck as can be found. The proprie' or is not at
liberty to give her name in print, but will refer per
sons to her.
