CHERRY.—The extraordinary success attrnding
the use of this rn diciue in diseases of the lungs,
and the many singular cures it has effected, hav
ing naturally attracted the attention of many phy
sicians, as well as the whole fraternity of quacks,
■various conjectures and surmises have arisen re
spect ing its composition; some physicians have
supposed it to contain iodine, other ignorant pre
tenders say it must contain mercury, and to some
mich substance they each attribute its singular
efficacy. As such opinions are altogether erro
neous, and calculated lo prejudice many persons
against it, we FLEDGE OUR HONOR that it
contains nothing of this kind, or anything the
least injurious; on the contrary, it is composed of
the most simple substances, the principal of which
are the extracts of tar and w ild cberry bark, and
the whole secret of its efficacy consists in the mode
by which they are prepared.

AUGUSTA MARKET.
Friday night, Nov. 27, 1846.
COTTON.—The demand has been moderate to
day. The market is firm at yesterday’s rales.
OJjS.ce of the N. O. Picayune, >
Saturday livening, Nov. 21, 1816. f
Las l Sunday’s mail placed ns in possession of
the anxiously expected ue.\s By the, steamer of the
I‘Jlh ult. which proved highly favorable, bringing
an advance of i I in Cotton. This news induced
factors to raise theiraskir g prices i (ft Ic. to which
purchasers did not deem it advi aide to submit.
The consequence was, that on Monday and Tues
day only 550 hales lound purchasers at a very
trifling advance. T he. news not having produc ed
an advance in any of the Atlantic ports, our factors
concluded best to submit to taking the rates cur
rent previous to the steamer’s arrival, and on
Wednesday some. 3000 hales were sold. On
Thursday 3500 hales were taken at rather easier
rates, and on Friday venders submitted to a de
cline if jc. in consequence of which 4000 bales
changed hands. To-day the sales amount to 4 'OO
hales at yesterday’s prices.making ihe. sales of the
week 15,000 hales. I hese are small transactions
for so large a slock as has hedi permitted to accu
mulate hy the inactivity of the past fortnight, and
the market closes without spirit. The purchases
of the week have been principally ter English,
Continental and Northern account. French buy
ers have withdrawn from the. market. We quote:

MAP OF GFORGIA.
THE undersigned has been, for months past,
engaged, under the direction of Ills Excel
lency. Governor ( rawford, in compiling a Map of
the Stale of Georgia, on a scale of six miles to the
inch. Tiie undertaking is now nearly completed,
I ami he flatters himself he will receive the favor
i able patronage of bis fellow-citizens— sufficient, at
! least, to have it published and placed in a durable
form.
'That a revised delineation is called fi.f; of our
’ extensive territory, independently of vvbut exists
in the labors of Stcrges and Greene, will not
be questioned. 'The accumulation and possession,
since their limes, of a vast body of land designated
then as w ilderness, or the temporary domain of tho
Indian tribes, with natural objects well worthy “a
habitation and a name,” bavbeen converted into
organised counties, presenting a dense population,
flourishing vi.lages, and extensive public and pri-
I vate improvements.
The Map to be published (so soon as a sufficient
number of subscribers will warrant,) is five feet
j by four feet and eight inches; and is d» signed to
| exhibit as w ell as perpetuate the present condition
: of the whole topography of the State. In addition
| to the ordinary metes and bounds—courses of ri
vers, and ranges of mountains. Railroads, Canals,
County Sites, Post Offices, Factories, in fact ail
remarkable places of die past or present day, will
be shown. The attention of the compiler has been
particularly directed to a faithful drawing of coun
ty lines and public roads, and to accomplish such
important ends, he has not only consulted the ori
ginal surveys and the acts of various Legislatures,
hut lie deemed it the better plan to make rough
sketches of each county and submit the same to
the Justices of the Inferior Court, Postmasters, and
others equally < oinpetent and obliging, and to ask
for such additions and corrections as might be ne
<-es>ary. and further to ( esignate any and all ob
jects of natural curiosity th.it might exist. To
many, if not all of his requests, kind, prompt and
satisfactory replies were given,g'» that many glar
ing inaccuracies in the maps Heretofore published
have been corrected; and the - Fompiler takes this
occasion of returning his acknuw ledgments p» those
who favored his objects, as (tendering a service not
merely to bim-elf, but aiding most materially in
the thorough and correct developement bf the w hole
plan. To his brother Engineers of the different
Railroads, bis thanks are due for the use of maps
which enabled him not only to lay down the Irua
courses of those important works, but likewise to
make profiles exhibiting the elevation above the
sea, of every station from the Atlantic to the Ten
nessee river. The map will he embellished with,
views of the Slate House and the Executive Man
sion, and will be furnished to subscribers «t their
residences at tea dollars per copy.
