The United States Hotel at Saratoga is to be
rebuilt immediately, on a magnificent scale,
surpassing in size and elegance any hotel in
the world. On the South it will cover the two
lots now occupied by the bank and dwelling
house, and on the north will extend to the
center of Division street, which will be wid
ened on the north, by adding the lots formerly
covered by Marvin row. Commodore Vander
bilt will be interested in the new hotel, which,
it is said, wiil cost six hundred thousand dol

others, who recently met in Ohio as a demo
cratic State convention, have just sent forth a

A clergyman ot Chesteifisld, Ya , has been
sentenced to turn years imprisonment, for kill
ing a soidier who was robbing his garden.
Gen. McDowell, commander iu California,
lias published an order containing the findings
of the milita'y commission in the case of the
Salvador pirates. They were found guilty, and
sentenced to be hanged, but Gull. McDowell
commutes tbo sentence to imprisonment for
life in the case of Hogg and the leaders, amt
ten ybars impiisonment each for the rest of the
gang, six in number. The offence charged was
a violation of the rules of war.
Gen Carl Schui*, having resigned his com
mission, has boon sent to the President to
travel through the South oa a tour-of observa
tion as to tbo working of emancipation, the
loyalty of the whites, the condition o! the
blacks, and the fitness of the several States for
immediate restoration to their status prior to
secession. He is paid his expens-s only, and
will probably visit every State lately in revolt,
Texas included.
The American Board of Missions ask for
