RaoDCCT of Oil ix Pennsylvania., —The ac
tual product of oil in Ponosylvania ,h set down
t 3,500.000 barrels of crude oil for the year'
1860, nml worth, taking &n average of piices,
£24,000,000at the mouth of the wells. The
process "in fining increases its value to over
f.tit), ooo, ooo, or half as much as the wheat crop.
Tiie consumption of this uewly discovered il
luminator and lubricator is iccn using veiv
r ;, pid y, both at homo and abroad. In 1862,
Eucpo coi sumed 10000,000 of gallons; in
1851, the importation had incniased three
hu’ dted p 'i cent., 30,000,000 of gallons being
Cv u.-iiined if,ere, and in 1866 it i.i estimated
that i;0 000,000, will be required. There is a
brisk market for it the world over--Asia, Afii
ea, Bou h Amenc i, and the Island, of the seas
an* all calling for it. The best authorities outlie
subject, consider eighteen months tbe life of
u oil well. Some last longer than this, but
the g o t majority give cut before they are a
yrar old. But experience shows t'jat nil may
be stmck and good yields obtain, and in close
proximity to, exhausted wells. Some wells
bar n fine, under the most vigorous pumping,
to yield a barrel mure, are made productive
by boring tinm deeper The deepest wells
in opnaiiou are but 500 to 600 fret. Scien
tific iio n contend that tie greatest oildopoeits
underlie the earth’s surface 1,000 to 1,200 feet.
(Vrisiomble oil is produced in Canada and
West Virginia, but tbe product issmail cem

Belgium has been visted by a waterspout of

Letters from Jatk-onville, Fia., state that
large shipments of cotton daily arrive and
much more is awaking shipment. There is a
good deal in country unpacked. Owners
prefer to ship on consignment and hold for an
advance, hence sales arc dull.
Dry Goods in .Yew York.
The demand for goods has set in with a zest
and in a deeg'-ee, wholly unanticipated by the
manufacture!s. who ate unable to Bup.ply !bo
goods wanted puongh. Stocks there are
none, for as soon as new goods are delivered,
they are taken up. if not sold before delivery.
Piices continue exceedingly buoyant, and ih*.
quotations of to-day cannot be relied on lor
those ot to morrow. Consumption was so much
checked by high prices last‘year, as to limit
production, so that preparation was not made
to meet the gieat dernind that has arisen tpue*
peace has returned. The restored South de
velops wants wholly unexpected.
Cotton is coming forward ymy freely, and
p’-ovides means tq fiuy goods with. ‘ Prints
are in great request at very advanced prices.
The maiket is much ,-xcited. All old stock
has been bought up, *.nd orders for future
delivery control the production going forward.
Brown shirting and sheetings aro in semty
supply _ The demand is large, and prices keep
advancing The mills are ia full work,
and yet cannot fill outstanding orders. There
is a scarcity ot skilled laborers, which inter
feres with au early execution of orders at the
mills.
Bleached goods are higher, anl it is difficult
to gel goods the supp ! y being so greatly inade
quate to the wants of the tiade. ALI other
Gotton fabrics are iu a like (jwfiiiion of dofec
tive supply, rising prices ssiog demand.
Wooleus are also very active, and the mills
lag behind in supi lying the, very great demand
for consumption. I'aucy Cassisimeres, ot o!e
--srable styles, are rsp c’aliy thus situate I.—
Dark colors are in very poor stock, leaving the
demand unsatisfied. Prices are very firm.—
Dark eoattngsare much wanted, and sell tom
live. Delaines are in lively request, and th:-
orders are heavy enough to take all the goods
in course of Manufactuie, Prices keep using.
Foreign goods are quite as active. The im
portations have come lc a good rnuiket, read
zing vcyy high and-profitable prices. The
supply is not equal to the demand. Fresh
orders Lave been sent out, and the late imuqr
tations will be yery large, of desirable styles.
Biitish dress goods are nearly exhausted, and
the market is awaiting fresh arrivals. Italian
cloths are scarce and much wanted. Black
broadcloths-, doeskin* ard coatings have been
"da in heavy quantities, and are sevee, with a
demand far from being eSflated Silks are
vtrv scarce, while the demand for both fine
and inferior grades is very great The demand
for goods comrs from a'l parts—South, West,
East and Slerth. -independent.
