Word “not,” from (lib amendment of Mr. How ard, so as to make the resolution definitely affir mative of the right of Messrs. Prentiss and Word, to seats in the 251 h Congress. N Mr. TILLINGHAST went at some length in to a defence of the validity of the November (lection, and in reply to the remark of Mr. Gilley. Mr. MANN, of Virginia, re-asserted his po«- I ailisn assumed the other day, in favor of sending hack the election to the people [of Mississippi. MENEFEE to those posi tions at some length. Mr. WHITE, of Indiana, was in favor of the proposition to send bark the election. He con sidered the vole of the House of the extra ses sion, as haying operated as a fraud upon the peo ple of Mississippi, and as having prevented them from acting unembarrassed at the November I election. Ho was therefore for sending back the I election, and granting them (in legal terms) a new trial without payment of costs.” He could >riot, however, as at present advised, vote for the proposition of Mr. Howard, inasmuch as by the connexion of the amendment with the resolu tion as it stands, when it should come up as an independent proposition, ho should go for it.— Nor did he think that this difficulty would be removed by a division of the question. He clo sed by moving that the House do now adjourn.— Negatived, 80 to 104. Mr. GRAVES took the floor ami yielded It to Mr Premiss. Mr. PE I'RIKIN rose to order, and asked if the claimant had a right to address the House again! The Speaker decided that he had such a right"', and Mr. PRENTISS proceeded in reply to the | arguments heretofore addressed in favor of the new proposition moved by Mr. Ifoward. and * i sustained by Mr. Mwin, of Virginia, and others, , 'be House then adjourned.
