Extending from a point near Hoentur, in
HelCalb county tieorgia, to the Tennessee river,
between Dallas and Boss' landing, and embracing |
a distance of one hundred and lorty miles.
SEALED PROPOSALS
For the execution of the grading and masonry on
certain portions of the rail road above mentioned,
embracing a distance not exceeding eight miles
southwMlward ol the llutlnhoochee river, and
fourteen miles northwestward of llio same; also
of about twenty miles, ineluding the traverse of me
Etowah river and its valley, in all about forty miles
willlhe received at the office ol the commission;

second and seventh of April next, during which
lime engineers will he in aliendatieo lo point out
the various localities ut which tho worked construe
lion is to ho carried on, and to explain, by the

filling, and several extensive viaducts of limber,
will I e required in connexion with t he road forma

The hours tor instruction are from day light till
■ nine o’clock P M. (summer and winter! reserving
four hours for meals and recreation. On Satur
days, students arc engaged only till noon. The Ly
ceum, (a literary and scientific Society,) 0 f which
the Princtdal is ex officio, President, meets every
■Saturday evening. This society has been estab
lished but a few mouths, and has already proven it
self to be immensely improving to th* young ladies.
We pledge ourselves to impart irt lihe year's timf
to any young lady, who possesses a good mind, and
who can road fluently, a handsome handwriting,*
a correct knowledge ol Grammar, Arithmetic, Geog
raphy and spelling.
A married gentleman, from South Carolina, i
engaged in the drawing and painting department.
His work will compare with any artist's in the
Southern States, Besides the above branches, he
will teach portrait and minature painting, gilding,
bronzing, smalting, transferring prints, fancy works
with perforated paper, &c. «kc. In the musical
department, instruction will be given on the piano,
guitar, and flageolet, lectures every night on hu
man and comparative Physiology, Botany, Astrois
omy,Chemistry, &c.<fec.
Exertions are being made to have a clergyman at- ‘
taclied to the institution, w hich will be effected '
w ith as liltledelay as possible. H e have a library
of 800 volumes—an herbarium of 2JUO species of
plants,collected by tho Principal, in tie Slate of
South Carolina—optical instruments—Chemical ap
parati s, maps, globes, &c.
Tie young ladies are requested to dress plainly
—■ ■ wear jewels of any sort, and nut to atte"-l
ball, parties. No store accounts without 'ho
sand j( parents or guardians. Such os have
accounts wall be required to icgister all their ex
penses in a book 'they will keep for the purpose
Rations will receive a minute report of their chip
dren’s progress in theirsludies.
Hoard can be had in the village.
We solicit iho patronage of our Southern friends,
and pledge ourselves to labor to deserve it. Wenot
only invite hut would be flattered by the visits of
nil who may bo disposed to attend our lectures, re
citations, &c. on any day or hour during the w eek.

Savannah or Broad rivers, are required to have a
white pniroon.witho Bill of Lading ready prepared
to exhibit to any white person, who may wish to
examine the contents of the boat under their charge
showing the name ol said patroon and consignee of
the cargo aboard ol said boat, and furthermore for
bids any boat owner,their agent or patroon,to permit
any boat hand being a slave; to put on board of tkeir
boat, any corn, cotton, peas, stock of any kind.aou .
