CHRONICLE AND SENTINEL. AuaiisfST Saturday Morning, May jg. Mississippi Election. The New Orleans Bulletin of Monday last gives the following as the slate of the pulls in ■I t counties:— Prentiss, 1099'2 Word, 10473 Claiborne 9,557 Davis, 9,107 It will be seen that Prentiss is 1885 voles ahead of Davis and 1435 ahead of Claiborne, and that Word is 1450 abeau of Davis and 910 ahead ol Claiborne. There are twelve counties yet to hear from, which arc generally Van liureu in political complexion, but vote very weak. The statement in the Picayune, published by us yesterday morning, that Prentiss and W’urd were elected by "0(10 majority, being a mere report by steam boat passengers, which was probably taken froui the difference between Prentiss and Davis, was no i’oubt erroneous. Os Prentiss’ election there can slid be no sort of doubt, amt we think Word’s also safe, but the contest between bi m end Claiborne will probably be pretty close. The election of Prentiss alono would, however boa great triumph. Noble Munificence. South America, and the islands of the In iS dian Archipelago, have amounted as wo leain n from a valuable article in the Boston Advertiser, .V for the last live or six years, to something like d three millions of dollars per annum. We will s only remark further that the patriotism which ,j- could find cause of self gratulation in sitcli an u occurrence as the one mentioned, must be of a very buoyant character, The want of pru dence and ordinary good feeling here display cd, when existing relations between this coun try and Great Britain are considered, is not *, what had been expected from any British offi cer of respectability, and far less from one s situated as the Captain is. In thus noticing tliis piece of bad taste, to call it by the mildest , name, we <cel no other emotion than that of j regret, arising from the effects likely to re coil upon the author of the toast, towards 1 whom, as a writer of uncommon ability, we have always entertained the most friendly ' I eel logs.— 'Baltimore American. l Ki.xd Feelings.— Mrs Thellcr, with her in - fant child, about twelvu months old, a:rived a j Lewiston, un her way to Toronto, on Sunday at , ternoon. There was no tegular moans of conveyance, at the time other arrival, by which it was passible for her to reach Toron to until after the hour appointed for his execution.- | In this distressing situation, the benevolent rili -1 zons of Lewiston took her cate in hand, and char tered a steamboat at an exper e of lorty dollars, and site left for Toronto about 4 o’clock on M ni day morning.
