f JMIE subscribers have succeeded in preparing n
X compound Syrup of Pink Root, which will
admit of as definite proscription ns tho powdered
root. The dose of Pink Root, known as one of
the best subterfuges is, 10 to 20 grams, and double
that quantity in Infusion is necessary to the same
effect But tins syrup contains a concentrated dec ec
ho/), much stronger than the infusion, amounting
to almost tjie whole virtues of the substance.
One tonspoonful of this syrup contains the con
rentroted defection of 20 grains within a small
(ruction, which may be considered at least, equal
to the minima dose of the substance, which is 10
grains—two teaspoonfuls 20 grains,and so on. A
slight laxative power is given by combining in tho
virtues of rhubarb and senna.
It is not cerlgin that any uniform antidote to tho
occasional nervine effects of Pink Root is known,
but tho best antidotal power hitherto ascertained,
arislolochia, scrpcnlaria is combined in duo propor
tion.
It should bo remembered that no subterfuge is
uniformly successful, even when worms are known
to he present. The ofliciannl infusion Is 100 weak;
rootui ning only the tea of seven and a half to fil
teen grain* to the Cose, which equals, (if tho seler
■ ion of the root he well made) only three and a
quarter to seven and a half grains of the substance.
Fortins syrup, the best specimens have been
selected with great rare, and the syrup on use has
been found to possess, in a very convenient form
for administration to children, all tho uniformity of
power as a vermifuge with the root in substance, or
the full powersofit in infusion or decoction. The
dose should lie repeated three limes a day, or in ur
gent eases every two or three hours.
