r BillEsubscribers have succeeded in preparing a I
a compound Syrup of Pink Root, which will
admit of as definho prescription ns Iho powdered
foot. The dose of I’mk Root, known as one of i
tho best vermifuges is, IU to 20 grains, and double '
that qiiamity in infusion is necessary to Die same 1
effect. Hat tins syrup contains I com riilra'cd decor.,
linn, much stronger lhap the infusion , amounting I
to almost the whole virtues ol the »ufm/o)icc.
One teaspoonful of this syrup contains the con- 1
rentrated decoction of 20 grains within a small
fraction, which may bo considered at least, equal i
to tho minurn dose of the substance, which is Jo i
plains—two leaspoonfuls 20 grains, and r.o on. A I
slight laxative power is given by combining in tho '
virtues ol rhubarb and senna.
It is not certain that any uniform antidote to the ,
oecrtsiooal nervine effects of Pink Root is known, j
but tho best antidotal power hitherto ascertained, I
aristolochia, serpenturiu is combined in due proper- j
lion. , j
It should he renienfhered that no vermifuge is
uniformly succosslul, even when worms are know n j
to be present. The offieianal infusion is too weak;
eontaining only the tea ofseven and (i half to fit
teen grains to tho dose, which equals, (if the selec
tion of the root he well made) only three and a
quarter to seven and a half grains of tho substance.
For tins syrup, the best specimens have been |
selected wiih great care, and the syrup on use has
been found to possess, in a very convenient form j
for administration to children, all tho uniformity of |
power as a vermifuge with tho root, in eubs'once,or I
the full powers of it in infusion or decoction. Tho
dose should bo repealed three limes n day, or in or- 1
gent cases every two or three hours.
