The above case was pronounced hopeless by three of lhe most eminent physicians, and a disso lution of the patient daily awaited lor hy her friends, which may be authenticated hy the physicians who were in attendance. HE subscribers have succeeded in preparing a X compound Syrup of Fink Root, which will admit ofas delink e prescription as the powdered root. The dose of Pink Root, known ns one of the best vermifuges is, 10 to 20 grains, and double that quantity in infusion is necessary to the same effect. Bat this syrup contains a concentrated decoc tion, much stronger than the infusion, amounting to almost the w hole virtues of t he substance. One leaspoonfiil of this syrup contains the con centrated decoction of 20 grains within a small fraction, which may ha considered at least, equal to the minimi dose of the substance, which is 10 ginius—two leaspoonfuls 20 grains, and so on. A slight laxative power is given hy combining in the virtues of rhubarb and senna. It is not certain that any uniform antidote to the occasional nervine effects of Pink Root is known, but the best antidotal power hitherto ascertained, anstolochia, serpentaria is combined indue propor tion. It should he remembered that no vermifuge is uniformly successful, oven when worms are known to bo present. The officianal infusion is 100 weak; containing only the tea of seven and a half to fit teen grains to the dose, which equals, (if the selec tion of the root be well made) only three and a quarter to seven and a half grains of the substance. Fortius syrup,the best specimens have been selected with great care, and the syrup on use has been found to possess, in a very convenient form for administration to children, all the uniformity ol power as a vermifuge with the root in substance, or ■ hefull powersufit in inlusion or decoction.
