Peters, the discoverer of the celebrated Vegetable Anti-llilious Pills. “ Health, wealth and enjoyment aro the three l‘rimo ejects ol life. The two former are only sought ns a means to obtain the latter.— Man seeks for wealth as the means of enjoyment. Hut vain is such pursuit without the possession of health. Without bodily sirength and vigor, neither the physical nor the mental—neither the inner nor the outward man is capable of any achievement, 1 whether of wealih or enjoyment. Mopssanain ; coipore snno—a sound min'd in a sound body—is the sine qua non—l lie absolute requisite, for’any effi cient effort in the attainment of human ends. The mind may lie active, but if the body lie feeble, then is the mind active to little purpose. Enjoyment is not there; and the finest laid plans arc rendered abortive by the shattered condition of our tenement of clay. Hut sav that n man could obtain wealth—that bo could acquire the gold of Opbir, and bring home all. the treasures of the mines of Golconda, yet wilhout health, where would ho Ins happiness '! Ho would he miserable in the midst of his gold and his dia monds; lie would [line away in wretchedness and" despair, and he would exclaim with the vvise man of old, “ all is vanity and vexation of spirit.” His limbs uro racked with puiu and ke cannot rest, his appetite is gone, and ho loathes his food; his sto mach is oppressed with nausea, nod be turns sick- , * cuing away at the bounties of a munificent pruvi donee. Ile would give all ho is worth—nay',all the world —if ho had it—for the poor but healthy man’s appetite. “ Please give mo,” said a hungry wretch to a wealthy feeble man, “ please give me a sixpence (o buy me a morsel of food; I am almost starved !” “ I would give a thousand dollars for your appe tite,” said the rich man, ns lie handed the hungry one a dollar. Os so inm la importance is health to the enjoy ment of Jilc! But w hereto, mothinks I hear the reader ask, sub serves this homily on so plain and hackneyed a sub ject I Do uo not all know (he value ol health ? Do wo not all attend to it ns one of the chief, if nut the chiefest concerns of our mortal existence ? Do wo not employ Ihe means to attain and preserve it ?,' Do wo not lay cut money—d >wo not fey c'.Vysi wans—do wo nut follow their advicCi—do vvo not swallow their prescriptions ? True—most truc-genllo rc<^ er t i loll doest nil things, wo daro say, and r = . oyo , t-an, W e cannot, believu our homily Cn health to J>o altogether mine- As '/n ■,.orals, so in physic is it requisite; ia ' M h'-.u upon line, and precept upon precept.” - •‘MI iy. nealth lorgotthat they may be sick, ami L.en m sickuossdo not always employ the most ju tlloiovio nuiatm to attuiii hoaltl). Very true, Doctor—men do not as you say always pursue the right road to'heallh. Wow, 1 know of some people who are always dosing themselves with physic, ana running to the doctors and apoth ecaries every day of their lives. They take, I verily believe, a cart loud of drugs in a year, and yet they aro not well after all Do you know the reason ? Why, yes, in my cpimon there arc two reasons. In the first place they i-uq too much medicine, and' Hi the second, they do not tako the riihl kind. I used to make t', u same mislakc. But lately, that is i bi say for '.wo or three years past, I’ve hit upon a I better plan. 1 lake Dr. Peters’ Vegetable Bilious I Pills, and 1 derive more benefit from one dollar laid out in them, than 1 used in paying fifty in any for mer pursuit of health, besides saving a world ol nausea and disgust in swallowing an enormous quantity of medicines. Do you know Dr. Peters f Very well. And have yon CV er taken his medicine T J were ;l blockhead else. , ‘ hey tell mo lie is none of your quacks, who un ite, bikes to mend and regulate the human machine without so much as a knowledge ol its parts, and how they are put together. 'They say he un derstands anatomy and physiology, I think they calf them, and is as familiar with botany and chemistry ns lam with the road to mill. You aro rightly informed. Dr. Peters is no em piric. He does not undertake what he dues not understand. He was regularly tired to the healing art. He has spent years in the acquisition of know ledge ;he has devoted himse.f to the study of the ? , human frame, and the diseases to which it is sub | ject, and now he is applying his acquisition to the relief of suffering humanity. Ho does not put lorlh the absurd claims often ad vanced by the inventors of patent nostrums—name ly, that ol curing all diseases with a single pre scription ! Much a prelonce ho would deem about as difficult to swallow as to lake the nostrums of : those who put it forth. There is no such medicine, j There is not, and never was, a panacea lor all dis ] rases The Vegetable Bilious Pills pretend to no such miracle. But what is inliiiitely better they 1 effect what they undertake They keep the word 1 of pr imise to the stomach, and the prima via which I they make to the ear ami eye. And that indeed is no slight recommendation. Nor are the complaints ] to which these Pills are adapted few nor far be ( tween. The disorders arising from a morbid state ! of i ho bile aro, unfortunately, many, distressing and fatal. A large portion of all ihe levers, especially atlhe south and in the marshy districts, arc owing to this cause, from the distressing ague and fever j which almost shakes asunder hie and limb, to llio ■ fearful ” \ cllcw Jack,” which seldom quits hisjvic lira without sundering soul and body as he lai.es i his leave. Conversant from his previous practice, with die ; case, in all ils forms, which originates from the dis order of iho bile, Dr. Peters was first led to emplnv his knowledge and experience in the preparaliun of n medicine which should prove efficacious in this largo class of diseases, which should relieve the ach | fug and the dizzy head, and restore the nauseated, and loathing stomach, at Ihe same time that it pre sented those more fatal effects which arc so apt to i follow from ihcir imprudent neglect. Tor tins purpose he prepared with much care and just adaption to the purpose, the Vegetable Bilious Pills, which ho is happy to say. Iron; long experi i ence, and tho abundant testimony ot those who have employed them have answered, more limn answered his sanguine expeclalions. It is not his own mere assertion you are call ed onto believe, it is not the ipse i ixit of any single man—though he was as great as Galen or Hippo crates —that yon are to pin your faith upon Nei ther all hough it is said in the sacred volume that ” by Iho mouth of two or three witnesses shall all tilings be established”-—are you to believe in Ea» , small a number only ? A cloud of witnesses is be j lore you. 'They arc too numerous to be easily | overlooked; they arc !uo intelligent to be carelessly ; heard; they are 100 respectable to ho slightly re- I guided. Believing the spontaneous testimony of llioso i whose experience istlic best lost of the truth they assort. Dr. Peters jias thrown together in tho to) lowing pages, a few ol the many hundreds oftesli- , inoniuls received from every quarter where Ins pills hav-- come into use. They are left to speak lor themselves. They are the words of those who “speak what they do Know, and tes ily to what they havo .seen and experienced.” Be careful and inquire for Peter:.’ Vegetable Pills; they nro sold in Augusta hy //avilnnd, If ley A Go Thomas Burnett A; Co, .Yolsoii Carter, end James Leverich. april 17
