U. S. Bank had irn. proved i per cent on tho sales of the day previ ous, and most other sales went up i to 2.1 per cent. An impression it appears pretty generally ex ists that tho law lately passed by Congress, for, bids the passing of old notes of the Bank of the , United Slates by individuals. This, says the i National Intelligencer, is not the fact. The law 1 only forbids tho ofticers and agents of the bank from re-issuing - those notes. The bill as origi- , nally reported in the Senate, embraced all per- i suns whatever; but the revolting ar.d abominable feature of the bill, which proposed the infliction of penitentiary punishment for circulating good money, was entirely 100 “democratic,” even for 1 I •‘the parly,” and it was stricken out. The rails are laid 35 miles, the cars run ning that distance, and the Macon mail and pas, sengers are now carried 30 miles on the road. Departed this life, on Saturday, the 31st July, at his residence in Oglethorpe county, Mr, John Caiitkii, a husband, father, brother, and friend. W e can in all confidence hope and say, that tho loss of the surviving relatives and friends, is his eternal gain. He has been a member of the Bap* list church a number of years, and continued firm in the primitive faith ; and his faith may truly be said to have sweetly worked by love, and overt come the world. V tho world, with all that pertained lo it. was nothing lo him, his hope was entirely in our Lord Jesus Christ, and he hoped to appear alone in his righteousness when he got to that heller world, where all would be peace, and joy, and love.
