STILLMAN’S
highly concentrated compound
SYRUP or SARSAPARILLA.
HA\ INO prepared for a number of years a Sy
iup ui Sarsaparilla, which has been highly
approved of, and administered by a number of the
r most respectable Physicians, and which has far ex
ceeded my most sanguine expectations, I now, with
increased confidence, oll’er it to the Medical Faculty
and tue suffering community, ai Highly Concrn
: tiateil Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla, for purify
mg the blood and removing the diseases arising from
excess ot mercury, exposure and imprudencies in
life, chronic and constitutional diseases arising from
an impure state ol the blood, jand is especially re
■ commended lor Rheumatism, Scrofula or King’s
Ky il, ulcerations ol the throat or leg, pains, swelling
ot the bones, tetter, pimples on the face, eruptions,
copper colored, scaly, or any kind, arising from a
syphiloid state of the body, Arc. all yield immedi
ately under the use of this preparation. This arti
cle is now prescribed by some of the most distin
guished physicians in this city, and has proved
more efficient in practice than any preparation of
Sarsaparilla yet o.l'ered to the public. For the ad
vantages it possesses over the ordinary prepara
tions of Sarsaparilla, see most of the late standard
works on medicine. Numerous preparations of Sar
saparilla, and various modes of preparing them,
have been given, all of which will of course differ
according to the mode of preparation which each
individual may adopt. It is therefore of the high
est con liberation and importance to the Faculty,
that there should be a standard preparation, of uni
form strength, and possessing the most advantages.
To ctied this, and obviate the inconvcnience'al
luded to, I have made a number of experiments to
ascertain the most effectual moans of extracting the
virtues ol Sarsaparilla. The experiments have re
sulted most favorably, and it is with pleasure I
now offer my Concentrated Compound Syrup of Sar
saparilla to the faculty. The compound contains
all the virtues of the Sarsaparilla in its most con
centrated form. One ounce of Syrup being equal to
a half pint of Sarsaparilla Syrup commonly used,
put up in larger bottles, and sold lor half price, kc.
Since the introduction of this new compound Syrup
ol Sarsaparilla; its reputation has been constantly
increasing, and its popularity has extended in ail
directions. It is highly approved of by the Faculty
wherever it has been introduced. It has already
been sent to almost every populated section of the
Union, whether in town or country, hospital or pri
vate practice; it has invariably given to both pa
tient and practitioner, the most decided and une
quivocal satisfaction, and produced the most salu
tary and beneficial effects. Numerous letters have
been received from some of the most distinguished
physicians in the country, and from some of the
professors of several medical colleges, all recom
mending in the highest terms the value of this
medicine, and its superiority over other prepara
tions of Sarsaparilla. Several cases of secondary
syphylis, mercurial and scrofulous diseases, have
entirely recovered in the incurable wards of our
institutions, which had for many years resisted
e very mo !e of treatment which could be devised.
The cases furnish striking examples of the salu
tary effects of tins medicine, in arresting some of
the most inveterate diseases after glands were de
stroyed and the bones already affected.
Extract of a letter from Dr. Jas. Woodward, dated
Louisburg, N. C., June 1, 1534.
Dear Sir—l made trial of your Concentrated Com
pound Syrup of Sarsaparilla with the most com
plete success in chronic rheumatism, where the
joints were mue.i swollen, and 1 have now a case
of scrofula on both the fore arms, and it has-been
so beneficial as nearly to have restored both my
patients. Hut I am now entirely out of it, and
must request you to send me two dozen bottles as
soon as possible. JAMES WOODWARD.
T. Stillman, M. D.
The above preparation of Sarsaparilla is decided
ly the most efficient mode in which this valuable
medicine can be used. It is for superior to any
other Syrup of Sarsaparilla now in use. All the
other Syrups of Sarsaparilla that are now used are
weak preparations, and the term concentrated syrup,
a delusive appellation. This will apply to various
nostrums prepared from Sarsaparilla, pancea, &c.,
which frequently depend for their activity on corro
sive sublimate, or some active mineral which should
not be used except under the supervision of a phy
sician.
Dr. Stil man’s Concentrated Compound Syrup of
Sarsaparilla, every day adds proof to its virtues.
The following certificate, which, from the character
and standing of the gentlemen whose signatures it
bears, will preclude the necessity of giving a long
train of cenilicates of the cures this wonderful re
medy has effected.
The Syrup of Sarsaparilla pepnred by our friend
Dr. T. Stillman, by an improved Steam Press—we
recommend it as being preferable to any other with
which we are acquainted:—Valentine Mott, M. D.

I concur in the above opinions.
FRANCIS E. UERGER, M. D.
New-Y ork, Aug. 1, 1532.
I have been in the habit of using Dr. Stillman’s
Syrup of Sarsaparilla for years, in medical and sur
gical cases, and believe it a valuable auxiliary to the
healing ait. VALENTINE MOTT, M. D
Augusts, 1832.
N. B.—The above eminent Medical gentlemen
and distinguished men of talent and fortune would
not testily to any medicine unless it had met with
approbation and possessed extraordinary virtues, to
the medical gentlemen anil the suffering community,
as a preparation which, for utility and beneficial ef
forts has never, and never can be surpassed. In
cases of chronic rheumatism, ulcerated sore throat,
erysipelas, and diseases of a like nature, its efficacy
has been tested by thousands who have gratefully
acknowledged its virtues. It is well known that
all cases of cutaneous eruption arising from an im
pure state of the blood, and it is well known that
any medicine which can restore the blood to its pure
natural state, will forever drive tham away, and ef
fectually eradicate them from the system. Many
arc induced to try external applications, and for a
brief period they may prove effectual, but eventual
ly the disease which has only been driven into the
system, breaks out again with redoubled violence,
and oven those fail to drive it back. The Concen
trated Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla,is of all me
dicines the most effective in purifying the blood, and
driving from the system humors and diseases, which
lotions and ointments only serve to (ix more firmly
there. Gout and rheumatism, those two most invete
rate enemies of man’s peace, fall powerless before
the wonderful effects of his valuable medicine, as
certificates from hundreds who have been alllicted
and who have tested its virtues, can testify. Many
preparations of sarsaparilla have been within a short
period palmed upon the public by quacks, who care
not what injury may accrue so they vend their nos
trums. But tliis truly delighttul and purely vege
table preparation, which has stood the test of years,
is none ol these. The active principles of the sar
saparilla root have been carefully preserved, with
out the deleterious articles which have been too
frequently mixed with it, and the utility of that, as
well as its efficacy, cannot bo disturbed. Those
whose constitutions are broken down or debilitated
by juvenile indiscretions, will find in this medicine a
remedy which will effectually restore them their
prestinc vigor, and obviate the ill effects of any in
judicious treatment to which through ignorance or
malpractice, they may have been exposed. As a
general purifier of the blood, as a diet drink, and as
an agreeable, palatable, efficacious medicine, this
compound stands unrivalled, and as its superiority
overall preparations of the kind stands unquestion
ed, numerous late attempts have been made by un
principled men to foist upon the public forgeries,
weak useless trash, that can do no good, and which
must do an immensity of injury to those upon
whom it is imposed. To guard against these impo
sitions, those wishing to purchase this truly invalu
able medicine, will ask for Dr. iStillman’s Concen
trated Compound Syrup of Sarsaparilla.
It is used in all the English and French Hospitals,
and approbated by the College of Physicians and
Medical Schools, of both countries.
The following physicians recommend it daily in
their practice, and have for the last five years:—
John De Lamater, m. d., Westel Willoughby, m.
d., Valentine Mott, m. d., Peter C. Tappan, m. d.,
