In making up onr review of th • m irket yester day, we were rather surp. isrd at the complaint gen eral of the stagnant stale of business, particularly at this season, when dealers from the country and the strrounding Mates generally v isit us for the purpo-e of making their spring and summer pur chases; hut such is the fact,—for several succes sive weeks the sales in produce have been light, and witu hut few exceptions cofmned to the wants of city dealers, tlur wholesale Dry Goo Is Merch ants are a so at pre -ent loing comparatively noth ing. We hope that this slate of things w ill not long eon tin u.s, and that we may in a very short time have it in our power to reporta geneial revival of business. Cotlun —The Upland cotton market ha . continued exceedingly dull throughout the week just clo-ed, as the result of sales will prove. Such lots gene rally, ns have changed bands, have been forced upon the market, and have consequent y gone olf at a decline of } to } rent per lb. on the currency of the picvions week ; the generality of holders, however, will not acknowledge the reduction in price—and the article continues in the same un sett ed state as recorded for the past fortnight and such doubtless will continue the case until the receipt of later intelligcn-c from Europe, which is anxious'y looked for by dealers. In the present slate of the market our limitations must he con sidered nominal. The sales since our last are 2590 bales, at 13} a 17 cents per lb. In Sea Island about 130 bags white h ive been taken at prices ranging from 43 to 70 cents per lb, with a few ha rs f tained at from 11 te 23, and about 43 Sanlees, from 40 to | 45 cts per lb. Rice —dur rice market eonUinies in the same , stagnant state as noticed in ourTast. The sales du- , ring the week, have been confined to limited opera- , lions, for the home trade, at a reduction of J per 100 on the transactions of last week. About 910 tierces have been s-ld,e.t the following prices—2o tierces at3}, 165 at 1, 130 al 4j. (ill at 1 3-16, 302 , •t Is,o4at i 6 10,100 at 17-10,Mid 71 tierces at . $4-’ per 100. (Jr ain J'he receipts of the week are 16,350 bushels,about 6000 bushels of which brought 80 cents; and three cargoes, being of superior quaity, changed hands at something over $1 per bushel. — A lot of peas sold at 97 cents per bushel. In oats we have ntf change to notice in our quotations.— Hay ha, been selling at $1 a $ j per 100 lbs. Flour. — (’here is no demand for any description of dour. The only transactions that have come to our knowledge is iho sale of 200 hhls Hallimore llowar 1-street at 8} a per lb, with about 70 do Virginia, at 8} per hhl.
