Lincoln Superior Court, April Term, 1839.
Georgia Lincoln County.
Tim Grand Jurors, sworn and empannollcd as j
the Grand Inquest of said county- and state, for the
present term, make the following presentments.
Uid in doing so, they leel gralilied lo state that j
they have no presentments to make of a general
character, as outrageous upon Hie moral commit
liily.
I’hc (Jraiul Jurors, m the peiTo nuance ol this
duty, under the special charge of bis Honor, have
made examination of the recordsol lireeouils, and
Ifiid them in good order, and Hie proceedings of the
courts narnhuly re orded. In respect to the oilier
charges from 11 is Honor, nothing comes within the
knowledge of this body that they can present as a
grievance.
Idle Grand Jury, will, as a body, recommend the
strict observance of the law, regulating retail
licenses, passed at the last session of the Legisla
ture, winch law, enforced, will put a stop to a
traiUc with slaves in ardent spirits, which lias been
for years a source of complaint, and accumulation
of much vice and crime within Hie slate.
-fm-V would recommend to the Inferior Court of j
Hie County, t 1 have such repairs made as may be
necessary to tin- several bridge; 111 the county, and
when required, to have new ones built; and we
point out lo Ilium those across Alain 80.1 p i reek
and the Dry Fork of Soap Creek as wanting re
pairs.
The Grand Jurors have been unable lo examine
fullv 1 the situation of Hie luuds ol the county, the
elei'k having been undei a press during the term in
his olllcial duty, they recommend that he be pre
pared to lay beloie the Inferior Court the state of
the funds, and that Hu- same be laid before the next
Grand Jury for their approval.
idle Grand Jury would present as a serious grie
vance, the defect in our euiiunal laws, which will i
not permit oll'ences lo he tried in any county than
where they are committed —it has come to this,
that the more iLigranl Hie dime, the mo.e certainty
there i- that the perpetrator will escape justice.
The trails-lessor and Ills friends have only to
agitato the ease in a I companies, and thus draw out
tlial exp.ossioil of opinion which is so natural in a
virtuous community, where file laws have been
shamefully violated, and thus under the two oaths
that are prescribed by the code to Jurors, every
citizen in the county, especially the must meritori
ous and enlightened, are rendered incompetent to
serve. This is a crying evil, and we would recom
mend to our Senators and Representatives in the
next Legislature, to bring this matter before the
assembly, and to endeavor to procure such an alter
ation in tiie existing law ■ , as will insure the speedy
administration ol justice.
Pile Grand Jurors in closing their presentments
through their foreman, present lo his Honor, Gar
nett Andrews, their thanks for his attention to
(ham as a body, and for his attention to business in
the dischar -e of his ollicial duties, which has been
faithfully and impartially pertoruu-d. And lo I .
S. Heath, Esq., Solicitor General, they present
their thanks for his faithful discharge of Ins duties.
We further recommend that the clerk have these
presentments published once a month for six months
in the Augusta Chronicle and Sentinel and Federal
Union.

To Dr. Maguin;—My dear friend—l am most

several years abandoned himself in tire vortex of
dissipation ; and was only reclaimed from it at
length by the utter prostration of all bis virileener

j Hash of excitement warmed his system, the reac

prostration. 1 had apple d all the usual nostrums

success; and when 1 saw Hie “Lucina Cordial”
advertised, 1 must confess that even the groat weight
of yoor name did not give me much hope in it, at

bound to try it,however, and was soon satisfied of
its efficacy ;’for before a bottle was expended, my

as well is ever.
The number of documents, such as the above

' I Ca ,March 3d, 1838:
■ Dr. Peters—Dear Sir, —By requestof your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
’ almost miraculous effects of your pil’s; and 1 would
add, that you may make use ol them, in connection
With my name, in any manner you deem proper, I
speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three
| years; and so great are the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that 1 would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars abox than have my house
without them. 1 will not enumerate the afflictions
they have relieved us of; but I can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fmly proved to me that your medicine is a sim
ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally
the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe
riod severely afilictcd with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the gnu c.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure; but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate tier sulfer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly, we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pecting every day to be her last, your pilis were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their cffeqts that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in loss than three months site was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next tiling to
miraculous; and yet I could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need I add that the popu
larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
this section of the country ?' But this I presume
you know from the immense quantity you dispose
of, 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding
its general use, 1 never heard an individual complain
of its effects. My residence is 1:2 miles from Bal
eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen
timents of regard, your ob’t servant.
A, G. BANKS.
To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upwards of fifteen
months, f have been eiueily afilictcd with Fever
I and Ague; and during the time could find nothing—
though I had applied to every tiling that gave me
any thing like permanent relief. At length, how
ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one
1 of our best physicians, and 1 am most grateful and
happy in being able to add, that 1 had scarcely used
I two boxes when I found that they had restored me
|to perfect health. Since then, various members of
j my family have used them with equal success —
and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you
of the fact, and to request of you to publish this
j certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi
; mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un
rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours,
THEODORE JAMES.
