does not belong to the family of ipiaek medicines;
for the muon that the component parts are made
knows l to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish Co know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long am! anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North has advertised a,Tomato Pill, purporting to
he mail* from the stalk, a thing not more absurd
than foe one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raiding the T omato
so fat North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds- himself hound, and in honor [dodg
ed to prove by their use, that they are a I that they
profess Co he. and will do for otheis what they
have done for such as mav have used them ; as
this is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubt esshe valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the liapatinc; or active principle, and when used
I as a daily vegetable will he found to keep the
5 system in much better condition than the other
j kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has- been given to children, and
l bow they then wished for a substitute. It has
long beew known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, hut not until of late was it
ascertained that they contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most chccifully, for the reason that
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery,
they would he hound to reject the medicine. as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alts «f the
day. If yon wish to cleanse She system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious- medicine, use the lomalo
Pill, of which) a s-oppliy, we learn, w ill soon he in
this city. We all know something about this,

PRHSPBCTUB OF THE
SOUTHERN SILK GROWER,
AND AGRICULTURAL KLGIBTKR
To he published Monthly at Athens, Georgia,
V.V AI.DIIN CHASE.
BY the solicitation of several friends who feel
a deep interest in the succcs of the Silk busi
ness at the South, ue have been induced to pro
pose the establishment of a small periodica, mainly
devoted to that subject. The experiment of rais
ing the food and rearing the worm in this climate
having been fairly tried, and that lira) having fully
demonstrated the feasibility of the undertaking,
pnh ic attention is becoming every day more a ive
to it; and fond anticipations are already indn ged,
of the time when our abandoned and- worn out plan ’
talions shall again he cultivated, and better than
ever reward the labor bestowed u; on them. To
him who lias a patriotic attachment for the oil on
which lie was horn and nurtured, and who looks
upon the tide of emigration that is ever selling
fiom the old to the new States, as notonly a diain
upon our wealth, hut destructive to ttie dc.ig ts of
social interrouise and the- grow.h of eary liiend
ships, any scheme which shall fnd to lessen such
emigration, ml plant our people more contented,y
and firmly amid the scenes of their childhood will
he favorably regarded. An Iwc aie fully persua
ded that the production of silk, if generally enga
ged in, I- ill do more than any thing, else c. ii do, to
increase onr wealth and preserve our population.
Entertaining these views, we pro, osc to lend our
feeble aid in the dissemination of practical infor
mation on this subject, confidently believing that •
■an inlcligcnl community need only have suitable
facts presented for t' cir consideration, to satisfy
thorn that the road to wealth is as open to them
here, as in any of the fertile regions oi the West
We are aware that several valuable and ably
conducted publications exist at the North, devoted
tu the interests of the Silk Culture, and that wc
shall bring but little practical information to the
task wc have imposed upon ourself. But it scorns
to us that a work which should record the u-sults
of Southern experience, winch should contain in
. formation adapted to the peculiarities of our soil
andrlhnate, and which should at the same time
include a selection from the most valuable articles
in tin Northern periodicals, with an account of all
new improvements in the mode of constmeting
eocooneiies, fixtures, in Europe and
America, would be found eminently useful. With
these feelings, we commend our enterprise to the
patronage of the public, promising that no efforts
shall he spared on our part, to render it a work
both interesting and useful.
It may tie proper here to remark, that although
the silk culture is the primary ohjec t we hope to
aid, wc design to introduce other articles connec
ted with Agr culture generally, with a view to
disseminate such valuable mfotaißtion as may meet
the wants and advance the interests of practical,
farmers. .
