THUNDERING SPRING.
THE proprietors of this natural curiosity, res
pectfully inform their friends, and the travel
ling public generally, that they are prepared to ac
commodate all who may favor them with a call.
The very short period which has intervened since
their purchase, added to a scarcity of materials, has
* • rendered it difficult to improve as extensively as
they desired ; yet they know themselves willing to
devote their undivided attention to promote the
comfort and convenience of visitors and travellers.
The water combines high medicinal qualities,
containing strong impregnations of Saltpetre, Mag
nesia, Re., ascertained from a partial analysis. We
deem it unnecessary to append to this notice, a list
of certificates relative to cures elfectcd by using the
water, as the doubts of the sceptical would not be
removed, and those who would believe, may credit
the assertion, as such can be proved at any time.
Several cases of violent Rheumatism have been en
tirely relieved; also Tetter, Scald-head, running
Ulcers, &c. Individuals laboring under Dyspepsia,
will experience great relief from the use of the
water. It is known to be highly efficacious in re
lieving all cutaneous diseases.
* It is due to ourselves, and for the information of
the public at large, to state at least some of the
mineral properties of the water; and also the na
ture of some of the diseases which have been cured
■ at this place. We are aware of the prejudices gen
erally engendered by vaunting advertisements of
like character.
The location of the spring in Upson county, is in
a healthy region nearly surrounded by large hills
on the north side of the Pine Mountain. A consid
erable quantity of game abounds in the woods ad
jacent, lor the delight of sportsmen ; and Flint River
is sufficiently contiguous to afford amusement t
the angler.
F’amiliesdesiring it,can find ample seclusion from
dusty streets and miasmatic regions of the lower
counties, at the Thundering Spring, * where no
pains will be spared on the part of the proprietors,
to render their visit agreeable.
Gaming and other irregularities will be prohib
ited. Good order will be strictly enforced.
Afflicted persons will have a separate table pre
pared if desired, where they can have all the atten
tion paid them they may require
The liar will he supplied with choice Liquors ol
various kinds and attended by an efficient bar keeper
rates of board.

* For the information of those who are unacquain
ted with the origin of the somewhat portentous ap
pellation of this place, it is perhaps due to observe*
that the great similarity between the noise occa
sioned by the spring and the rumbling of distant
thunder, suggested the name.

'TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO—a substitute for Calomel, and
dues not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in alnjost the extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, ijxauorting to
be made from the stalk, a thing not "re absurd
than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for otheis wbat they
have done for such as may have used them ; ns
this is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless lie valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapatine, or active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in niueli better condition than the other
kind; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel lias been given to children, and
how they then wished for a substitute. It lias
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertained that they contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Facility embrace and use
