a shade of suspicion rests on Mr, P ir>- dexter, in relation to the charge made against him. The Committee promise a more comprehensive report as soon as the evidence which is said to be ve rv voluminous, can be written out Mr. St. Clip Ctark, who acted as Cleik of the Committee, is busily engaged in arranging ‘he evidence. There was a loud piaudid in th<i gallery when the report had been read, and most of the Srnatois went up to Mi. Poindexter to shake him by the hand, Bnd tender to him their congra ulations on his honor able acquittal of so giavea charge There are many rumors floating abroad about the extent to which the Commit tee had gone, and the tacts they had de veloped ; but all these rumors should In. received with caution It seems 10 be stue enough, however, that Foy and Stewart have before the Committee an* nulled all the value of then depositions, and that Mr. Poindexter stands un scathed ” ©fie ©clcavapU. THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 1835. It is gratifying to every friend of peace to see by’ the last accounts from France, that the gloomy clouds of war are dissipating.— The authorities of that country begin to feel the force *f national obligations, and will no doubt consumate all their engagements : jus tice and right must, and will prevail, for the honor of a nation will seldom be found yield ing to paltry, mercenary views—and that government must be corrupt indeed that would sacrifice every just and honorable principle for any pecuniary object. Our halcyon days will still go on, and an increas ing prosperity mark the rise and progress of uur favored country. Tyrants may strive for conquest, whilst balmy peace shall con tinue to spread her silken wiugs o’er all our land, and call forth a loud response of gra titude and praise from every American bo* som. We can discover as yet no movement on the part of those, whose duty it is, to take the matter in hand in relation to our public ■wells. We hope indeed if the facts stated by “ A Citizen,” in our last are so, that his communication will not be disregarded, or we will be compelled otifselves to make an appeal that will not die away upon the wings of the wind It is indeed a reflection upon pur town and upon its inhabitants, that such abuses should be suffered to remain unnoti ced., We are requested to state that there will be an election held in this city and county on Tuesday next, the 17th inst.for a Colonel to the command of the 2nd Regiment, Georgia Militia, comprising the counties of MTntosh, Liberty, and Bryan, to fill the vacancy occa sioned by the resignation of Col. Quarter man ; all persons interested therefore will take due notice, FOB THE TELKGKAPH. dimmer to Harold, in the Georgian of 4th last. Great God ! thy ways to us are dark, To us mysterious each design 1 But still, thou guid’st our wand’ring bark, And all our devious steps define. Although thus hidden are thy ways, And darkness viels our mortal sight: Still would we give t® Thee, the praise, The Judge of all, dos’t all things right. Religion, blessed boon, from lieav’n, Removes our doubts, and calms our fear*, This life’s a pilgrimage—and giv’n To teach vain man, by toils and cares ; *Tis not on Earth, jto look for peace, Nor undisturb’d continued joy ; Death, must the captive soul release, Ere blissful rest it can enjoy. The Christian then, tho’ roughly tost, iiy adverse winds, and stormy clouds, Cares not, though earthly hopes be lost, And darkness, all his life, ensrouds. Beyond the grave, his hopes are bright, ’ I'is there he’ll bathe in peaceful seas ; In heav’en, he’ll dwell in endless light, Freed from all cares, and all disease CECIL. Darien Exports.
